CHAPTER 1: ORIGINS OF KOMBAT

Before the Huntsman academies were created in Remnant, clans were formed in order to push away the threats of Grimm. The Shaolin Monks, the Lin Kuei, the Shirai Ryu, and the Special Forces, were Remnant's most respected clans, all known for their heroic actions of protecting those who could not protect themselves.

But as time went on, these clans began to thirst for more power. The Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei became selfish and wanted to have more power than the rest of the clans. So he 'trained' his students by forcing them to take part in becoming cyborgs to abolish any sign of weakness, turning them into emotionless killing machines. With his new army of cyberized Lin Kuei, the clan declared war upon the three other clans, but were stopped by the God of Thunder, Lord Raiden, who was originally a god before he stepped down as one to protect Remnant.

With Raiden's guidance, the Lin Kuei clan was restored and the four clans reunited. When time went on, and Huntsman academies began to come into play, Raiden asked that the Headmasters of the Huntsman academies unite with the four clans to push away the Grimm. But they refused, afraid that the four clans would bring a negative effect to their students in the academies because of their ruthlessness. In retaliation, Raiden dueled with the Headmasters of the academies. Sadly, only a god like Raiden can do so much. Raiden underestimated the headmasters, who all fought against him to a stalemate. With neither side winning, everyone decided to call it a draw.

Years later, Raiden decided to wage war on Salem, Queen of the Grimm, once and for all, for he's seen all the horrible things the queen has done to plague Remnant for eons. Raiden, with the four clans, created a huge army and attempted to end Salem's existence once and for all at the Grimlands. Sadly, the battle was lost, as no matter how many times Raiden struck and killed Salem, the queen always got back up. Being overwhelmed by the army of Grimm, Raiden and the clans were forced to retreat.

After the war at the Grimlands, everyone assumed that the four clans dispersed from being overwhelmed by so many Grimm, given by the fact no one ever heard of them ever again since that day. Many assumed that the clans had gone into hiding or were abandoned...

Many years later…

Under the Sky Temple, Raiden was standing behind Remnant's Jinsei as he watched over the many young students who were standing before him, who were around the ages of 14-17.

"Hanzo Hasashi, Kauai Liang, Liu Kang, and Sonya Blade...come forth." Raiden commanded as four individuals came into the scene and formerly stood still as Raiden approached them.

Hanzo, also known as 'Scorpion,' wore yellow sleeveless attire. A red sash was tied to his waist, following a few straps of belts over the red cloth. He wore gray metal gauntlets and shin guards that covered his legs up to the knees.

Kauai Liang, also known as 'Sub-Zero', wore almost the same designs as Hanzo, except his attire was blue, and he wore a dark blue sash around his waist. He did not wear gauntlets, which were replaced with fighting gloves that showed his fingers.

Liu Kang wore loose dark-red pants. Many times when he was either practicing or fighting, he'd stay shirtless, but in times like this, Liu Kang wore a black vest with a dark red shirt inside. He also wore a bright red bandanna around his head.
Sonya Blade wore black latex pants and a black shirt which showed her stomach. She wore metal gauntlets and black boots that reached up to her knees.

"You four, have proved your worth in your clans and have indeed exceeded my expectations...but it appears that since you have perfected your skills, there is nothing left for me to teach you...instead, for you to honor your clan and your sacrifice, it is time you have expanded your horizons...by attending Beacon Academy." At this point, there were whispers among the crowd. Hanzo, Kauai Liang, Liu Kang and Sonya all looked at each other. Were they not supposed to despise these academies? Their thoughts were interrupted when Raiden continued speaking.

"Time after time, the world outside of us has evolved. For us to contribute to the fight against the evils that lurk out there, we must let the world know that we are here to help. Hanzo Hasashi of the Shirai Ryu, Kauai Liang of the Lin Kuei, Liu Kang of the Shaolin, and Sonya of the Special Forces...it is time you continue your journey." Raiden announced. The four students nodded at their mentor before exiting the temple, followed by cheers from other students who were congratulating them.

An hour after the celebration, Hanzo sat on a stone outside of the Sky Temple, using a rock to sharpen his kunai while looking at the sun setting.

"Hanzo, we leave for Beacon tomorrow. You should get some rest right now." Sub-Zero spoke as he walked to Hanzo and sat next to him on the stone. "What brings you out here friend?" Sub-Zero asks Hanzo.

"Are we sure that Lord Raiden is doing what's right? By sending us off into one of these fragile academies? After what they did to our master?" Hanzo asked his friend as he kept sharpening his kunai.

"Hanzo, I understand you're uncomfortable about this, but we should know that Lord Raiden knows what is best for us. We are, after all, students who exceeded his expectations." Sub-Zero answered. "However, we should make sure we do not end up like Bi-Han and the others." Hanzo flinched when he heard the name 'Bi-Han.'

Bi-Han was originally the first Sub-Zero in history. Unfortunately, he was expelled from Beacon Academy for his brutal actions of beating his opponents to near death, and because of this, he and his team, containing Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke (Team BSSC/'Bask'), attempted to go up to the tower and teach Ozpin a lesson but failed horribly. Once Raiden heard of the news, he was enraged for how Bi-han tried to 'honor' his clan and banished him from the clans and Sky Temple and the clans. Team BSSC was never heard of since then.

"Things will no longer be the same now. Without Lord Raiden to guide us out there, who will?" Hanzo asked as he put away his kunai. "We will have to trust each other," Liu Kang answered as he and Sonya walked towards Hanzo and Sub-Zero. "As long as we are all together, we can accomplish many things." Liu Kang continued.

"From what Raiden told us, Beacon's Initiation Exam will determine the teams. If we stay together the whole time, we can form a team together." Sonya explained. "However, according to Raiden, we're gonna be catapulted into a forest during the exam." Hanzo and Sub-Zero looked at Sonya wide-eyed, dropping their jaws.

"...say sike right now..." Hanzo told Sonya, who shook her head no. "It's the truth guys." Sonya said. Just then, a huge lightning bolt struck down near the four students as they saw their mentor Raiden emerge from the lightning at an instant. All the students flinched at the sudden dramatic entrance of their mentor.

"I apologize for alarming you." Raiden said as the students recovered from their shock.

"Lord Raiden, please stop doing that! You could give me a heart attack!" Sonya exaggerated while the others laughed over Sonya's joke. Raiden smiled at his students.

"Do not worry whenever you are away from your homeland. I will make sure we will be in touch so that I can keep records of how you are doing in Beacon." Raiden spoke to the others before turning to Hanzo.

"I understand that some of you question my actions of sending you to these academies. Let me clarify this to you all. These academies are not our enemies. Although they may not clearly share the same views as us, we both wish to cleanse this world of evil." Raiden lectured the students as Hanzo listened.

"There will be a Bullhead waiting for you in the morning. I'd suggest you all pack your belongings and rest." Raiden ordered as he raised his hand into the air and disappeared after a lightning bolt got to Raiden.

Today was the day Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Liu Kang and Sonya embarked on their journey for Beacon. Scorpion and Liu Kang were too busy sparring while Sub-Zero and Sonya sat on a paved stone and talked.

"The Bullhead should be here any time now." Sonya said as she looked at the time on her scroll.

"Patience is a virtue Sonya." Sub-Zero replied as he decided to lay down on the stone and nap for a while. Scorpion and Liu Kang walked back towards Sonya and Sub-Zero as they had just finished sparring.

"Any chance I can try your kunai Scorpion?" Liu Kang asked, which made Scorpion react by hiding his kunai from Liu Kang. "Absolutely not." Scorpion declined.

Scorpion was given the kunai by the Grandmaster of the Shirai Ryu who also happened to be his father. It was Scorpion's pride and joy.

The Bullhead rose to the Sky Temple as the four students picked up their bags and walked over to the bullhead as the door slid open as the pilots welcomed them to enter the Bullhead.

"I bid you four good luck." Raiden spoke from behind them. Sonya walked over to her mentor and gave him a hug. Raiden slowly brought his arms up and hugged his student.

"Goodbye Raiden." Sonya said as she let go of Raiden. Raiden smiled at her and then to the rest of his students. "Farewell. May the other gods be with you." Raiden said as he watched his students enter the Bullhead. The Bullhead slowly rose off the ground before flying away and into the clouds.

"Next stop," Liu Kang said as they sat down in the Bullhead. "Beacon Academy."

The ride to Beacon was some-what calm and convenient. Sub-Zero and Liu Kang decided to spend the next hour sleeping, with both of them leaning onto each other. Sonya was on her scroll doing something while Scorpion was playing games on his scroll. After playing a whole 30 minutes worth of games, Scorpion grew bored and decided to talk to Sonya. Scorpion got up from his seat and walked over to Sonya and sat next to her.

"What're you doing Sonya?" Scorpion asked. Sonya turned to Scorpion and grinned.

"I'm texting Johnny right now. Guy's currently in Vale at the moment." Johnny Cage was Sonya's boyfriend. The Cage is known as a four time regional champion in Vacuo who graduated from Shade Academy. Johnny also happened to be a movie star, who's been acting for around three years after he won his second region championship.

"Do you think Lord Raiden did the right thing? Sending us to Beacon?" Scorpion asked his female friend who sighed as she closed her scroll and looked down to the ground.

"I'm sure Lord Raiden has a valuable reason for doing this, Hanzo. Needless to say, we owe Raiden for everything he's done for us." Sonya explained as Scorpion continued to listen.

"Look, I know you don't like this. Trust me, I'm not really happy about this either, but Raiden is doing this in hopes of uniting the four clans and the academies against her." Sonya continued. "It also could be because of what Bi-han and the others did." Sonya spoke. Scorpion twitched a little after hearing the name 'Bi-han' but brushed it off.

Two hours passed before their bullhead came to a stop and dropped the four students off at the airport. The four individuals walked and found the plane that would take them to Beacon, and saw other students boarding the plane.

"You and Sub-Zero slept like a gay couple last night." Sonya taunted Liu Kang and Sub-Zero, to which both got agitated when Sonya pulled up a picture of Liu Kang and Sub-Zero leaning onto each other as they were sleeping. Sonya seemed to have edited the photo since there were pink hearts drawn to the sides.

"Delete that photo! Delete it!" Liu Kang yelled as he chased Sonya onto the plane. Scorpion and Sub-Zero sighed as they walked onto the ramp leading into the plane.

"How was your nap man?" Scorpion asked Sub-Zero who chuckled a little. "Peachy." Sub-Zero answered. Scorpion patted Sub-Zero on the back before they both walked into the plane.

"So how is this gonna work?" Sonya asked during mid-flight to Beacon. "From what Raiden said, teams are supposed to be in groups of four."

"I feel like we should stick together. That way, we could prevail in Beacon." Scorpion stated.

"While I respect Scorpion's opinion, I think it is best that we try and expand our horizons by meeting other people." Sub-Zero spoke. Liu Kang agreed with his opinion. "Agreed, it is best to meet those that we have not spoken with. I understand Scorpion's point of view, but it is best that we do not end up like Bi-Han and the others."

"We don't have to end up like team BSSC! We just need to prove that we are not people who should be treated like trash!" Scorpion stated.

"Remember Scorpion, this is about saving Remnant, not about superiority." Sub-Zero spoke. Scorpion sighed and nodded.

"Greetings. I am Professor Goodwitch, headmistress of Beacon Academy." A hologram came into view in the middle of the plane for everyone to see.

"You selected few have been chosen to attend one of Remnant's most prestigious schools for your future career as Huntsman and Huntresses." Goodwitch continued as the school came into view. Everyone was amazed at the sight of Beacon Academy.

"Welcome to Beacon Academy." Goodwitch spoke.
