The Long Day
You stepped in the door of your home and dropped your briefcase and purse right where you stood. Which you never did. You usually always put them in their proper places, but today…
Today you just weren't feeling it. You'd pick them up later. All you wanted right now was a bed and a dark room.
"Babe," you called out weakly. Finn, your boyfriend, should be there. "I'm home."
"Hey, love," Finn came out of the kitchen and smiled at you. A frown furrowed his brow as he gazed at you. "What's wrong?"
"I have had a long day and a huge tension headache from staring at spreadsheets all day," you mumbled, heading for the sofa. "Would you mind bringing me some ibuprofen?"
"Of course not," Finn replied, and headed for the bathroom to get you the medication.
He quickly came back with three ibuprofen and a glass of water. "Drink all the water, in case you're dehydrated," he advised.
You nodded, and proceeded to gulp down the pills as well as the entire glass of water. "Thank you," you said, setting the glass on the end table next to you.
"You're welcome, love. Is there anything else I can do for you?"
You shook your head, "I think I'm just going to get in some comfortable clothes and take a small nap before we eat. Could we order out tonight?"
"Sounds great. What are you hungry for?"
"I've read that fish can be good for a headache so some spicy fish plate sounds wonderful."
"Okay, T.G.I. Friday's should have something that'll do. I'll order it while you're napping and keep it warm for us."
"Thank you, Finn," you offered him a tired smile-the best you could do-and stood to your feet. I think I'll put some pajamas on and get in bed for maybe an hour."
"Okay, I'll be up in a few minutes and will massage your neck a bit. Maybe that will help."
"Thank you so much, babe. I'd appreciate that so much."
You turned and headed for the stairs, eager to get up to the bedroom and get your pajamas on.
You went into your bedroom and quickly dug through your dresser drawers to find your favorite comfy pair of plaid pajama bottoms and matching top.
Undressing, you quickly pulled the pajamas on and wasted no time in climbing into the bed. You hurriedly pulled the covers up to your chin and then reached over, turning out the lamp on your night table. Blessed darkness-save for some sunlight filtering through your shades-engulfed you and instantly, the tension behind your eyes lessened.
A moment later, you heard the bedroom door open and then footsteps on the carpet, nearing the bed.
"Ready for that neck massage, babe?"
"Yes," you murmured, turning onto your stomach. You immediately felt the bed dip at your side and then Finn's warm hands touched your neck and began applying pressure at certain points.
"Oh, Finn," you groaned-trying not to sound sexual-"That feels so good."
"I'm glad," he whispered, running his thumbs down the length of your spine and then back up. "I hope it helps you to feel better."
Then he gripped your shoulders lightly in his hands and squeezed, then released. Squeezed again. Then he moved back to your neck and rubbed the muscles till they loosened up.
"Oh, my gosh... Finn, you're so good at this."
"Thanks, love," he mumbled, and continued to massage your neck, shoulders and back.
Before long, your eyes began to droop and within minutes you were fast asleep.
When you awoke, the daylight coming through your windows had dimmed down to a dusky gray and the room was darker. Your headache was all but gone. "How long did he let me sleep," you wondered aloud as you climbed out of the bed. You glanced at the alarm clock on your night table and saw that it read 7:30. You'd slept for two hours.
Heading down the stairs you smelled food wafting in from the kitchen. It smelled devine.
"Finn," you called out, walking toward the kitchen.
"In here, love." You heard from the kitchen. He emerged at the doorway. "Are you feeling better?"
"Much," you replied, smiling warmly at him. "Is that T.G.I. Friday's I smell?"
"Yep, it is," he said. "Sit down and we'll eat."
He revealed to you that he'd ordered you the Dragon-Glaze Salmon and he had the Crispy Whiskey Combo.
"This looks so good. Thanks for ordering it."
"You're very welcome. I'm glad you're feeling better," he added. "I thought if it seems like it wouldn't make your headache come back, we could watch a movie together-your pick."
"Sounds like fun," you commented, forking up a bite of your salmon. "I pick The Swan Princess."
Finn smiled, seemingly knowing that you would pick exactly that. "A vow of everlasting love it is!"
You finished your meals and then you cleaned up together, trashing all your take out containers and plastic cutlery. Then Finn went to set up the movie while you sat on the sofa and pulled a blanket over yourself, leaving enough for Finn when he sat down.
Soon, you were both cuddled up on the sofa and were covered by the blanket and ready to start the film.
"Thank you for taking care of me, Finn," You said as the opening credits played through. You looked up at him and smiled. "Really, I don't know what I'd have done without you today."
"You don't have to t'ank me, love," he replied with a big smile. "You'd have done the same for me."
You nodded, "Of course I would have. It's just that, I know how busy you are, and all. It seems like there's always something you need to be doing so it's hard for me to expect help from you. You know? I don't want to burden you."
"You'll never burden me," Finn said with a soft smile. "Now, let's watch the movie."
"I love you," you said softly, reaching up and pulling his face down to yours, kissing him softly.
"I love you too, lass," he whispered, kissing you back.
"Why don't we forget the movie," you suggested, kissing him again. "I read of another little something that can relieve headaches."
"Oh yeah? What's that?" Finn asked with a smile.
"Take me upstairs to the bedroom and I'll show you."
With you giggling all the while, Finn lifted you up over his shoulder, caveman style, and carried you up to the bedroom.
