Spongebob scrambled to the dirt below him.
He picked Danny's lifeless body from the ground. His greenish-blueish eyes were absent of life and fiery passion. His hair had splotches of black and white everywhere, as if his body couldn't decide which to go with. He tried to lift his arm up, but it was like his arm was a piece of paper, weightless and easy to pick up. His skin was lighter, almost white as chalk.
Spongebob was trembling at this point, he placed two of his fingers onto Danny's neck. There wasn't a heartbeat to be felt, even after keeping his unstable fingers there for a moment. The sponge placed the side of his head onto his chest, trying to find some sort of breathing pattern. It wasn't until then that he noticed something red and green on the side of his body. He was so focused on his face he didn't look at his body. Due to not feeling any breathing, Spongebob inspected the red and green. Both of the red and green seemed like they were blood, albeit they felt different from one another.
He laid the dead boy down. He looked at his own hands as his lips quivered. Oh Neptune, his blood was all over his hands. Tears formed in his eyes as he looked back. No, no, he had to be alive. He couldn't be dead, right? He grabbed Danny's shoulders and shook him.
"Danny, you have to wake up," Spongebob's voice cracked as he spoke. "Come on, please, Danny! Please!"
No matter how much he begged and pleaded, Danny's body didn't move an inch. All it did was make something in the sea sponge's head click and he broke down. He unintentionally dropped Danny as he sobbed. Spongebob couldn't bear to look at the sight of his corpse. It felt like it was his fault; had he gone with Danny in the first place, maybe he'd be fine, yet he insisted he went alone rather than partnering up with somebody. He said that he would be fine, but he ended up dead.
Spongebob couldn't imagine how he would tell the others, if he even could at all. All he could do was cry there as he stared at his lifeless body. He wished he was having some sort of nightmare after unknowingly falling asleep, that Danny was pulling a sick joke and he was still around who waited to rise to show his ghostly self was fine, that he was okay, something. After a few minutes, his eyes dried up and there were no more tears he could release. His throat became dry and sore as a result.
He heard footsteps behind him, but he didn't bother to turn around while they got louder and louder. They only stopped once they were merely a few feet behind him. Even with him on his knees, they were able to see what was in front of them clear as day. Some of them gasped while one of them puked, which he could tell due to the fact that Spongebob could see Sam in the corner of his eye. He couldn't say anything to comfort her or anyone else, nor could he move, no matter how much he wanted to.
Sandy walked to Spongebob's side and she rested one of her hands on his shoulder. She was the only one who got closer out of everyone else who was there. He could tell she was shaking like he did, but she tried to hide it unlike him. It wasn't hard for anyone to tell she was trying her best to stay strong for everyone around them.
"I'm so sorry, Spongebob…" Sandy softly said.
"E moe i ka maluhia, e Danny." He spoke with a hoarse voice that cracked and broke.
He closed Danny's eyes with his fingers.
