Chapter 1
Once upon a time there lived a lovely little Princess named Juvia Lockser. Her vain and wicked stepmother, Queen Minerva Orland, feared that some day, Juvia's beauty would surpass her own. So she dressed the little Princess in rags and forced her to work as a maid.
Each day the vain Queen consulted with the spirits of the dead, contacting the deceased spirit of her father and asked him if she was the most beautiful woman of the land. As long as her father let her know only her beauty remained supreme, Juvia was safe from Minerva's cruel jealousy.
