The room was humming dimly lit the DJ would motion for her to join him in the room momentarily, he is currently wrapping up the fluff piece before her interview. So Kahili waits her golf bag riding uncomfortably on her shoulders as she sits on top of her luggage. "Annd in travel the luxurious S.S Anne is docking just over the border in Kanto's vibrant Vermillion City, If you are rich enough to afford a ticket you missed the shindig of the year in it's annual Embarkation Ball, you can still see the ship leave later today. As the host begins to wind down the segment Kahili fixes her visor, adjusting her long silver hair and enters the room. The golfer is glad that this interview had made a convenient excuse to skip such a boring gala. "The winner of the National Park Open Kahili tell us about your mental state going into the tournament." "Focus is key, when you are on the green you have to pay attention, which club is correct, the wind the terrain, so I pushed everything else to the side." Kahili continues to go over her run, the segment was only ten minuets long, elusively she slips out when the show ends without giving autographs, her train would be leaving in minuets, with a solid sprint the athlete makes it with five minuets to spare. Time to go over her things, her clubs are in order, her luggage was there, her poke balls on a belt are stowed inside her bag her entire wardrobe for the next few weeks covering her pokemon. Today had been a little too hectic to give her pals time out, Mandibuzz, Oricorio, her beloved Toucannon, and the latest addition a newly caught Zubat. Boarding the train, she hopes the ship would allow her flying friends free reign.

When she disembarks in Saffron she once again hustles towards vermillion barely noticing this monolith of a city around her. She does not even notice the pokemon gym, a unfamiliar sight in her native Alola region. For she is thinking, about why she was going on the S.S. Anne and by proxy her father. When she gets onto the ship Kahili has no trouble finding her suite for if there was one thing she had learned as a hotel heiress it was how to find who was in charge, and convince them to provide the best service. Kahili is situated by the head steward directly after flashing her ticket. Kahili collapses onto her bunk unaware how much her tournament had depleted her strength. Why had she agreed to this arrangement?

She knew of course her father wanted to expand the business he had disappeared for two days with a glint in his eye and emerged with his hair uncombed, which as disheveled as her father ever appeared. Then he had proposed a luxury cruise ship and his need for someone to inspect a ship, see how to improve the service and design. An employee was the logical choice but her father had followed her to the green and she had relented, he was excited enough to do the job but, would never leave the hotel for such a long trip here she was as some type of spy. She begins to unpack placing her golf clubs in the lone closet where they along with her skills will rust until they stop in Unova the third stop on this world tour. "Attention passengers we shall disembark shortly and begin our smooth trip to sunny Slateport City in the tropical Hoen region. "Tropical that is a nice taste of home at least she would not freeze this trip. Toucannon would love it too huh which pokemon would be on this trip were Pikipecks native to the Hoen region." With this thought she retrieves her pokemon belt and heads to the deck surely her friends could fly freely there she would take turns letting them out. This became a daily routine for her even when they pull into Slateport.

Steven Stone is sweaty and exhausted his idea to take the cycling road to get some exercise in before his impending sea voyage had been ill conceived he would barely make the ship before it left port. None of the trainers who had battled him had posed a threat. Claydol alone had taken care of the whole lot, a good thing too disembarking from the bikes had taken longer than the actual battles, or he would have missed his boat. Battling was just a nuisance now occasionally he met a challenging trainer, though it was like finding a diamond in Dewford cave, in the dark. All of this passes through the man's head as he chains his bike up. He would have to change in his cabin then the vacation could start until then he was in his yellow track suit. A nice leisurely trip to his villa in Sinnoh with a few stops to collect stones he needed a new key stone he had left his with Wallace the acting region Champion. Luckily Kalos would be the perfect place to acquire a replacement leaving the stone would help insure he could easily return as Champion once he recharged a little

Coming up the dock he takes his passport and his ticket that was only good to Sinoh, out of his bag showing them to the ticket taker. Moving aside the man allows Steven a look at the luxury liner, it was sleek, massive, and elegant white without a scratch. Resting top the waves like a breaching beluga whale. He would be traveling in style. A high-pitched screeching belays that impression the cause was a Zubat running recurrently into the side of the ship. Annoyed Steven lofts a great ball at it the orb strikes the bewildered animal and rebounds towards Steven who ducks the missile sails behind him, he hears the device shrinking and turns to see a young lady in golf clothes with hair that matched his own shade holding the wayward sphere. "Who do you think you are? Trying to catch my Zubat!"

"Steven Stone I should have looked for a trainer I am so used to these things in caves I forgot to check." He looked like a schoolboy who had misbehaved his foot making small circles on the deck."Well check next time. Commands the young lady with this Kahili whistles and Zubat returns it dutifully."Alola Steven Stone." Kahili procedes back to her chair leaving the future CEO alone with his luggage for the Zubat trails her new trainer expecting a treat. The nerve of that guy he had not even apologized she would not have pegged him for a spoiled rich guy given his attire.

As she turned in for the night she remembered something he said "I am used to seeing them in caves" what guy who could afford an S.S. Anne ticket yet spent most of his time in caves and showed up in a track suit rather than dressed to kill for the party? Her report for Daddy was coming along nicely maybe she could ask the staff about Steven, a nice opportunity to find out how thorough the crew was and how to do it better.

Steven is laying in bed trying to place where he had heard the term Alola before it had been recently he surrenders by taking out his pokenav and searches the term as often happens the map result came up first. The pokenavs had begun as high tec maps before the Devon Corp team had added other functions. It was a small cluster of had been the last stop on the tour she was from Alola, she would be on the cruise till the end presumably. He had not expected her to regain control of that Zubat so easily she might be a skilled trainer, he could not follow his normal procedure and help the good trainers reach him at the league after all she was not on a gym challenge. She would not challenge him either not after their encounter today. He was supposed to be relaxing he would forget about her and focus on his trip, starting with finding a new keystone.

Author's note

I love a specific old romance trope from England it is a international or unlikely couple getting together on a ship voyage stemming from constant English channel crossings. I started going through series I was familiar enough to write for that had a suitable ship and pokemon jumped out at me. I always loved the S.S. Anne and keep waiting for it to resurface so I took a cross region couple with some similar backgrounds and wrote a short outline I hope you liked this chapter I do have another series going so I plan to alternate between them for now. Sincerely 4Coyote.
