A/N: Hey guys, as promised, I have new content beginning to come in. This will be a bit slow going but I figured that anyone who read my Hyperion Journeys series would be curious to see what becomes of his remaining family (minor spoiler alert for anyone who didn't and I apologize). When I was coming up with this story, I decided I wanted to take inspiration from another video game series I liked, this time the newest Spider-Man games (with Menelaus and Morgause being the superheroes in question, anyone who knows those games know why I pluralized it). Enjoy!

Prologue

With news of Hyperion's passing provided by his foster sister, and Hyperion's biological daughter, Menelaus wasn't angry. As much as his sister (who was also permitted by the Council to train him as a Jedi) had expected this to be the case, it wasn't. Rather, it seemed like the boy recognized what was happening to the man who'd raised him if he had lived. If he had remained a servant of the Dark Side, his infiltration of the Sith Imperial Remnant meant that even in successfully helping the Jedi destroy them, he would be the next worst thing. Whether or not his records were wiped as he had been doubtless promised, he would've probably done something to be an enemy of the Jedi once more.

That or else made himself an enemy by attempting to keep the secrets of the Dark Side from being lost to the sands of time and the lightsabers of the Jedi Order. After all, they only brought back what they couldn't destroy from the Sith Remnant for storage in the Vault. And of that, there wasn't very much beyond a few holocrons, made by the Sith of legend like Naga Sadow, Tulak Hord, or even the recently deceased Lord Vitiate. Everything else, right down to the warriors who had fought for the way of the Sith, were no more. Or so the public had been told by the Jedi Council who later apprised Morgause and Menelaus of some of their first missions later.

"While it's true that we have caught what seems to be the bulk of Sith artifacts and either destroyed them or taken them to the Temple, we believe there are several undiscovered ones. We believe that worlds like Dromund Kaas, Korriban, and others lie undiscovered artifacts. Weapons that Vitiate might not yet have unleashed on the galaxy which need destroying before a zealot unleashes it," said Dantius, after obtaining his seat on the Jedi Council. Seems very convenient to train us just enough to qualify for Jedi to unknowing simpletons before sending us away Menelaus thought snappily.

"Awfully convenient to train me in the principles of the Jedi then send us after the very things we were told would be bad for us. Good thing we already know that from watching what it did to our father to embrace the Dark Side, if for good reasons," Morgause told him. Menelaus had the feeling his sister would be speaking for them for a long time and he was glad of it.

"With you two, I would never pretend to agree with everything the Council does but my hands are tied if they vote in favor of something like this. I even brought your grievances up with them, myself. As your uncle, I'll always stand up for you when I feel the Council is making a mistake but as a member of the Council, there isn't much I can do if the Council disagrees. May the Force be with you, always," Dantius admitted.

"And you, uncle Dany," Morgause said with a respectful bow. Menelaus followed suit even though no one was present, less because Dantius insisted on it and more because it felt right. After a moment, Morgause added, "Where do we start?"

"You'll be following a lead that we picked up on Malastare as to someone who's been finding and auctioning Sith artifacts since before the end of the war. See if this lead has any validity and follow its full course," Dantius told them. With that, they were dismissed to begin their first true mission with Morgause as the supervising Knight and Menelaus as her Padawan.

Chapter One

"So much time on Coruscant at the Temple after Dad died and now, we're being sent into the scummy elements that helped get him killed. Do the Jedi even want to try and protect us?" Menelaus asked.

"They seem fixated on saving the skin of one of their own. The minute you say you know anything about the Dark Side, you've blasted yourself in the foot with the Council, it would seem. Thank the Force we're out though, my ship is more comfortable than those stuffy rooms that they gave me," Morgause retorted. Menelaus chuckled, having bet as much when he was initially assigned to help his foster mother around her residence.

"You think we'll find more excitement on Malastare, sis?" Menelaus asked, deciding to change subjects.

"All I know is that it'll be more exciting to go to another planet again. One of the perks of traveling with Aunt Morgana was that you got to see several planets, sometimes in a standard month. Life was always interesting with her even if she was always looking to kill Dad which got boring to hear about after a while," Morgause explained. Menelaus silently conceded, nodding and admitting he couldn't argue with that. Then after a moment, Morgause added, "Help yourself to anything you see in the cold storage that you want: it's gonna be a while before we're there."

Menelaus did just that, scanning around cold storage to see if there were any sweets or anything that could fill him up. He found what he was looking for in a frozen bun with pink frosting that he knew needed to be heated up but would otherwise work. Letting it thaw for several standard minutes, he warmed up a heating device to help it cook the rest of the way. The entire process took about half a standard hour but was well worth it when it was done. After that, he decided it was time to look around and see what he could improve in the ship's functioning capabilities.

He went to improve a wire connection at one point and received a painful shock, requiring him to yank his hand away from the machinery he was working on. When he went to see if he needed to tend to a burn, there was nothing on his finger. Moreover, the jolt didn't feel like it hurt any of his organs, in fact he would go as far as to say he felt invigorated by the current. That's strange, that current should've killed me, he thought silently. Was this a power that he possessed as a result of his attunement to the Force?

No, no way that this could be the case. But then how did he survive enough volts of lightning to put down a Bantha just now? He knew it should've killed him, he even felt the currents flowing through him in a manner that he knew was historically fatal for humanoids. Especially true since he was a Zabrak and the higher pain threshold of his species meant that if he was registering this then it would be a hell of an ordeal for other humanoids. He ate his sweet bun in peace but found that it didn't nourish him the same way that might have nourished Morgause.

Granted, he could taste and enjoy it but something was wrong with how his stomach processed food compared to how he absorbed that electricity. He decided to deal with it later, after the mission was officially over, in case something like it happened again while he and Morgause were traveling. She already knew he was a wound in the Force, maybe she knew that something like this would come up already. He ate in silent contemplation then returned to the deck to help his sister with the ship's guidance system which was always glitched when she was alone. "Thank the Force you didn't lose any of your wealth when the Sith fell, right?" Menelaus joked.

"What's that supposed to mean, little bro?" Morgause teased back.

"You can afford to replace the system with the money you got from Aunt Morgana, can't you?" he retorted.

"Oh yeah, like that's any of your business to know! But yes, I've been meaning to but just never really did for some reason," Morgause admitted with a giggle at the first remark, becoming briefly glum. Menelaus could tell that she meant that she and her Aunt never really took the time because of the former's need for vengeance against their dad. Menelaus didn't push the subject anymore, knowing how tough it was for Morgause to open up about their aunt at all and who could blame her?

She ruffled her brother's head though there wasn't any hair for her to mess with there, more because of how it perked him up when she did that than anything else. "Don't beat yourself up, Aunt Morgana is old news now. As is Dad but that's besides the point, make sure the guidance system doesn't shut down on me while I land, will you?" Morgause told him. As he returned to his station, she put in the clearance code that permitted them to land on official Jedi business.

Even before the wars with the Sith and the people of Zakuul, Malastare was filled with opportunistic scoundrels. Warning him as much, Morgause told him to stay close to her while they scoured the leads that they could find on the Sith auctioneer. "That's gonna be tough," Menelaus said, pointing out at least six vendors who were trying to sell what they advertised as Sith goods. Presumably, before the long arm of Republic law caught up to them and they were serving the rest of their lives behind a ray shield.

"Feel them out, you'll know the knockoffs from the real deal by the signature they cast off in the Force. You're gonna be called to feed on the energy within the artifacts and that's when we'll nab the son of a Hutt responsible for the signature," Morgause said. She gently placed a hand between her brother's shoulders as a suggestion of reassurance and shepherded him forth, promising to keep him moving while he scanned the land around him. Menelaus then took a deep breath, told her he would have to close his eyes and concentrate intensely but he was down for trying.

"I don't like what it does to me to seek out strong sources of Force power. You might want to make sure you can back away from me quickly if you're the strongest one," Menelaus told her after a moment. Morgause nodded and readied herself with a reserve of Force power she could channel into a backwards burst of Force Speed if she had to. This way, the worst that could happen was that he ended up consuming the energy of some nearby scumbag that probably wanted to kill them anyway.

But it did have its advantages with the chiefest among them being that it didn't take long for the power within Menelaus to ignore tiny signatures and focus on big ones. He was much like a Hound in this regard, narrowing scents so that he could only catch a whiff of the biggest prize that the person muzzling him could possibly want. Unfortunately, his power was also like a hound in terms of its focus and its determination to consume whatever that large source turned out to be. "Pinch me if I need to start the hymn," Menelaus said before disappearing.

The hymn in question was more like a soliloquy but it was a reminder to contain the power within him and use it for the good of the Jedi, not for his personal advantage, when avoidable. The entire thing went "Hungry art thou now and hungry thou shalt be later if in one bite, thou taketh the galaxy into thine gullet. Stay thy rage now and thou shall feed for much longer indeed." For some reason, speaking that way seemed to work the best with the power within Menelaus, especially when he mentally spoke it in the language of the ancient Sith.

All the pinching did was establish a quick and ready sensation that was designed to trigger Menelaus' corporeal mind into uttering the hymn to the beast within. But as he concentrated now, he did sense a faint presence that stunk of the Dark Side. And judging by the radius of it, the presence would be much stronger than Morgause's if she and the target stood in the same proximity from him. "I have a lock, but it's too faint to tell if it's a person or an object," Menelaus said. Morgause confirmed she understood what he said and since his mind raced ahead of his body, she placed a hand in front of him so that she could slow him down long enough to get the direction he was headed in without exhausting her own power.

As the signature became stronger, however, Menelaus started to get a read on it but still couldn't tell if it was a person or an object. "It's like they know how to scramble their aura in the Force the same way one might scramble the signature of a spaceship to avoid detection. I won't be able to tell if it's a person or an object until I'm almost upon them," Menelaus said.

"Can you give me a direction to work with, at least and I can see what I can find from there?" Morgause asked. She agreed that it felt a little scrambled as well but she had a feeling she would know how to bust the spell once they were in close enough proximity. She'd learned how to convince a person to reveal their presence in the Force from her aunt and had a feeling she might need to use that trick. Steering her brother whenever he pointed in a direction, she held onto him until they came upon a trinket shop of some kind.

There wasn't a sign that revealed a name on the front, which was already suspicious, but there were miscreants and shady humanoids of all sorts walking out. Before letting her brother go in, Morgause tried to see if she could penetrate the veil that was placed before her. "Maybe I can take a crack at it, sis. If I start consuming the power in this place, we'll have our answer," Menelaus said.

"How do you know that?" she asked.

"If it's a person, they'll be drawn out to whatever is doing this to them. But if it's an object, we'll drain it of its life and therefore of its value," he answered. Morgause looked around to see if there were any Republic agents nearby, anyone who might try to stop them.

Then she said, "Do it but stop if I pinch you twice." He nodded and then began his work, consuming the Force energy in the place. The most bone chilling aspect of this was that even though she wasn't yet the target of this power, Morgause could still feel it working its magic. Like it was draining the place or even the person within the place of their very life essence and leaving them an empty husk of what they once were. Morgana had known how to steal souls, steal life essence but this was different from that.

Where the life force that Morgana stole merely transferred from one vessel into her, this was a literal taking, consuming, and digesting so that it could never be used again except to fuel the existence of the consumer. Leaving whatever he stole it from to wither and turn into oblivion, rather than even the charred, dusty husks that Morgana left behind when she finished fueling her longevity on someone. She almost wanted to back away because she knew she would be next if he couldn't stop himself from consuming more and more energy. A minute later, she even tried pinching him twice to see if he would listen to the feeling of it but he kept right on going.

This meant she would have to take an even more drastic measure if he didn't stop very soon but that problem was soon solved for her. Because the being inside that held this presence emerged faster than she could react and used a Force pull to sweep Menelaus off his feet, drastically interrupting his concentration. "The hell do you think you're doing to me, boy!?" the individual demanded. Morgause readied with her lightsaber, the yellow blade coming to life as she drew her eyes to a Sith Pureblood of all creatures.

It had to be a kriffing Pureblood, of course Morgause thought to herself silently. Aloud, however, she said nothing as he repeated his question to Menelaus. "The hell do you think you're doing, draining my Force power from me without my permission? That spell is dangerous and why the hell are you with a Jedi!?" the Pureblood demanded.

"We're both Jedi, you Pureblood twit. And you just attacked my Padawan, I want answers as to what you're doing here and I want them now," Morgause said aloud, stepping between her target and her brother as she spoke. The Pureblood looked surprised to hear that and almost reached for what could have been either a blaster or a lightsaber, the latter being Morgause's first bet. He studied them over and then relaxed his posture, stroking his face tendrils with his other hand as he did so.

"You two have to be the most unusual Jedi I've ever met but you're probably the only ones who have a chance at preventing the coming storm. Come inside and I'll tell you everything once I shut down shop," the Pureblood said.

"How can I trust you?"

"You want your information or not? Sorry I knocked down your Padawan, I really am, but I can't have him doing that shavit where they can see it!" the Pureblood explained. What could he be referring to when he says 'they'? Dad helped the Jedi destroy the Sith before he died Morgause thought as she deactivated her lightsaber and helped Menelaus to his feet.

"You okay?" she asked. He nodded and they followed the Pureblood inside, weary of treachery but accepting that they had no other choice. Besides, if he did try to kill them, they knew they could take him together and Menelaus could finish what he started in consuming him.
