A/N: I'm a huge shipper of Dimileth(F!Byleth x Dimitri) I consider them canon if you pick female Byleth on Blue Lions. They just click perfectly, both understand what the other are going through. He taught her how to feel; what it means to be human. She taught him how to move on and live and saved Dimitri in every way a person can be saved. I hope you enjoy this sweet short fanfic as I bring in more from my WattPad account. Oh before I let you at it this set just after the Flayn rescue. 3
Part I
Can You Keep A Secret?
It had been a crazy month.
For the last few weeks from students to the staff and even Rhea had been ripping the grounds apart of Garreg Mach Monastery and the near by town and woods. Why? Because the beloved little sister of Seteth had disappeared one day without a trace. Like lions on the hunt the Blue Lions had joined the search parties with vicious vigor. It had taken days, weeks of effort but on the 20th of Horsebow Moon they had found and saved Flayn as well as a student that went missing from last year's class. However the ordeal had not permit the Blue Lions to celebrate their friend...their teacher, Byleth Eisner's birthday.
Which brought us to the present day, just a few days away from the next moon ahead. Dimitri as he returned from a quick ride on his own personal horse, Rascal a dusty brown stallion deep in thought. Together as a class they had picked out that Blue Lion Broach and set it on her desk on the 20th days ago along with a letter written by himself. She had been wearing it on her coat collar when they had walked in for class. But what couldn't leave the blonde's mind was her smile he had discovered the day he returned to see Flayn safe and unharmed.
That smile had sent his heart racing. It had been so mesmerizing, like the Goddess Sothis had been smiling. The best part? He had been the first to see such an gentle, angelic smile. Nobody else had seen it or maybe they just didn't notice right way? But Dimitri sure had. Not a look he had expected from somebody called the Ashen Demon. It was a welcomed one and his face blushed redder then a cherry at recalling it. Making his hands slightly clumsy as he locked up Rascal in the stables. He had remembered Yuri, Constance and even Claude having teased him every time he stole a look at his teacher.
Dimitri though couldn't shake a bit of guilt and dissatisfaction. Remembering how Ashe and the girls had expressed their regrets that they couldn't celebrate Byleth's birthday properly cause the dire circumstances. His mind made up the young prince knew he had to figure out something. Lost in his thoughts he hadn't realized that he had head inside to the second floor. "Isn't the captain's office this way?"he thought. Hm...maybe talking to her father would shed some light on what to get his teacher? It was worth a shot.
However as Dimitri came to a stop at the door he felt nervous, uncharacteristically so. He couldn't help but gulp before knocking. "Who's there?"came the deep, rough voice of the Blade Breaker, Jeralt from behind the door.
"Forgive me Captain Eisner, I was hoping to have a word with you alone? If now is not a good time I can come back tomorrow."Dimitri spoke up as he tried hard not to loose his composure.
Heavy foot steps reached his ears and then the creak of the door hinges as it opened to reveal the tall, chiseled dusty blonde Seiros Knight captain. "Ah, you're one of the brats from my daughter's class. Dimitri was it? What can I do for you?"
"Yes sir. I wanted to talk to about the Professor?"Jeralt grinned after a moment a moment of surprise. The kid look positively flustered and nervous.
"Well, come in. Don't just stand there like a cornered hare."Jeralt stepped aside to allow the prince in.
"R-right, sorry."
Once he was inside the office Jeralt closed the door and motioned for him to take a seat around the coffee table. Dimitri wasted no time, giving his thanks as he made himself comfortable. "So what's this about my daughter?"Jeralt asked as he sat down. Jeralt couldn't help but wonder what was on the boy's mind but he hoped it wasn't anything bad. He had to deal with some jobs where the client didn't take kindly of how stoic his kid was, often taking it the wrong way. He hope this wasn't the case now.
"Everything has been going well. But I was wanting to get a birthday gift for her."Jeralt really looked interested now but also to Dimitri there seemed to be...relief? How strange. Or maybe now that he recalled how Byleth was when they met in Remire Village, it didn't seem so farfetched.
Jeralt though felt amusement and delight at this thoughtful young prince. "Sitri, you watching up there? Seems our little girl might have caught the attention of a suitor."he thought as he began to laugh, much to Dimitri's shock.
"If I said anything to offend I am sorry!"Dimitri stuttered in a panic.
"No, no you've said nothing wrong kiddo."reassured Jeralt as he calmed down. "I'm guessing you're having trouble figuring out what to get her?"
"Yes...Yes I am in fact. I know she loves sweets and pastries but I want this to be something useful."he quickly informed his teacher's father.
"She grew up on the road, never in one place for long most of her life. We never kept many personal belongings as it would weigh us down too much. We carried only the clothes on our backs and whatever supplies my horse, Trotter could carry."Jeralt informed him in a matter of fact tone. The life of a mercenary was one full of risk and danger. Carrying anymore then what they required was logical. It had resulted in Byleth growing up to a smart, resourceful, and strong young woman. Then again, his daughter had never fussed about anything, not even when she got injured or they had to leave at an unholy hour at night.
Dimitri though found this rather different and to a degree depressing. It did explain the professor's mindset and such as well. "All the more reason then this gift needs to be something that can help her, not hinder her."Dimitri thought adamantly. "Was there anything you noticed that caught her eye? anything at all?"
"Now that you mention it, yes. Byleth has always been very fond of horses and cats. Every time when she was a child she'd be sneaking off to go see Trotter or play around with the cats she finds in the towns and villages we stopped in."Jeralt had a sort of nostalgic look to his face as he smiled, recalling his daughter's childhood.
"Horses?"Dimitri's eyes instantly lit up at hearing this.
That explained why their teacher was so good when she was instructing him, Sylvain, and Ashe on horseback riding during classes. She must have learned to ride and the tactics behind it for battle from her father! Then he remembered the sparkle in her sapphire eyes at seeing Habbi and Constance's pegasus and horse...in particular the pegasus. The blonde smiled in delight as he finally had an idea. "I better hurry, thank you for your time Captian Eisner! Now, please excuse me." Dimitri stated as he stood up and bowed before rushing out with purpose in his steps. Jeralt could only shake his head in amusement as he watched him leave. "Kid, you got your mother's charms."he whispered as he looked outside to the beautiful splendor of that autumn afternoon.
Dimitri knew exactly who to reach out to for this endeavor as he hurried down the hallway and down the stairs. If anybody could help he figured Claude Von Reigan could from the Golden Deer and Ingrid from his own class. At this hour they should be in the mess hall for dinner with everyone else. Sure enough he had been correct and spotted then tan skinned son of Duke Reigan and his childhood friend, Lady Ingrid. Before they could say anything he grabbed both, earning surprised yelps and squeaks at being dragged outside. Thankfully Professor Eisner was not at the mess hall yet.
"Dimitri, what is going on?"asked Ingrid swiftly.
"Yeah what's so important that you needed to drag us both out here your princeliness?"quipped Claude, looking confused but curious.
"Forgive me but we must keep our voices down in case the professor arrives."Dimitri swiftly motioned for them to keep it down, keeping his own voice low.
"Why? Just what are you up to?"inquired Ingrid.
Claude's eyes began to light up as he realized the situation. "Is this abou' Teach's birthday last week? If so count me in."
It was Ingrid's turn to turn surprised, "But didn't we get her a gift already?"
"Hm, not quite ripe yet."Claude playfully knocked on Ingrid's head.
"Claude!"they hissed.
"You're slow to catch on to the situation right now aren't yeah? Princey here wants to get a more personal gift from him for Teach."Claude said, making Dimitri turn increasingly red and flustered.
"Claude!"yelped Dimitri in his panic.
Ingrid had never seen Dimitri like this before but at the mention of the Blue Lions' professor, Professor Eisner he was...blushing. It was rather cute and honestly she wanted to help if she could. "Is that all? Sure I would be happy to help if I can."
"Th-thank you, this means a lot to me."Dimitri thanked, still flustered.
"So, what are we after here?"Claude quickly asked with a playful grin.
"A pegasus. One bred for battle in particular."Both looked stunned at what Dimitri told them. "Professor Eisner has a fondness for horses and she's working on a certifaction exam this week."
"Which class?"Claude asked.
It was Ingrid that smiled and replied, "Dark Rider. Professor Eisner has a talent as a mage. She would need a steed that can handle mana."
"Well, that strikes out my territory I'm afraid. We specialize in breeding wyverns for trade and battle, not horses."sighed Claude.
"You know, I overheard a highly respect horse merchant would be arriving tomorrow from Petra. Lets check it out tomorrow morning. The professor will be busy taking the exam until the afternoon."Ingrid suggested in delight. The boys' eyes instantly lit up.
"Claude can I count on you to keep the professor busy and far away from the market and stables?"Dimitri asked quickly.
"Just call me a distraction~!"chuckled Claude eagerly. Oh this was going to be fun!
