-Fuck.
That's a word Mary Winchester never expected to hear coming from the mouth of a celestial being.
The sound of glass smashing against the floor drowning the incoming questions about what the hell did she just heard.
And as she steps into the kitchen it's to find Castiel standing infront of a broken jar of jelly. The purple substance glistening amongst the shards of glass.
His trench coat is missing and so is the tie and the suit jacket. The dressing shirt untucked.
He looks naked.
Also.
The angel honest to God is holding a sandwich between his lips as if it was the most common thing in the world. A knife with purple residual being held in his left hand and as he looks up at her like a deer caught in the headlights something twists in her gut.
He lowers his sandwich with his free hand.
-Cas?
Mary felt disturbed over a lot of things right now. She just heard an angel curse and his entire body language screams wrong and he is holding a sandwich when Mary is pretty sure she remembers Sam mentioning something about angels not needing to eat nor being able to taste human food.
-I will clean it up.
Even his voice is wrong and there is something about his entire form from the way he blinks to the way he stands that keeps screaming at Mary about how wrong it was.
Something was off.
So so off and alarms were blasting in her head at full volume and before Mary can register what she is doing she is pulling her gun out and pointing it at the angel.
-You are not Castiel. Who are you?- She demands with her tone sharp as steel.
Something had had the nerve to use the face of one of her boys. That was something she would not tolerate.
-I am Castiel.- Frowned the man sounding like he was hoping to convince himself of that fact for the sake of not getting shot.
-No you are not and I'm not asking again.Who are you?- She asked again as she cocked her gun. The fact that the man raised his arms out of sheer reflex was enough to tell her that that was not Castiel. Any trace of hesitation puffing out of existence.
He put them down again almost as if remembering who was he impersonating.
-Look-
-Mom?- Sam's voice cut whatever the man had been about to say.
-Mom what's wrong?- Asked Dean this time as he caught sight of his mother aiming her gun at Cas...
Cas who looks wrong in all the possible ways and is holding a sandwich. It looks like Cas but that is not Cas and the lack of trench coat gives the brothers an awful reminder of when Lucifer was possessing him.
And that's how the three Winchesters end up aiming their guns at an annoyed looking not-Castiel.
-You do realize they are gonna shoot me if you don't stop them right? And I swear to God if you tell me again that a gunshot won't kill me I will stab you. Do not test me.
Before the confused hunters not-Castiel'seyes lit up for a moment and the entire body language seemed to shift up to the way he stood to the way he held his gaze. It reminded Dean an awful lot of...
-I thought he was dead.- Was all Dean said as realization hit him and he lowered his gun. Castiel seemed almost to drown in guilt at those words.
-He was but Lucifer thought that a leverage would ensure I wouldn't dare to fight him if I was to change my mind. So when he went to Heaven he grabbed Jimmy and pushed his soul back inside.
Realization hit Sam.
-I'm lost here. Who is Jimmy?- Asked Mary. No longer her gun aiming at the angel but she wasn't ready to put it away just yet no matter how relaxed her boys looked.
-Angels need to possess someone to be able to walk the Earth without harming humans with their true forms.- Informed Sam helpfully to which Castiel nodded.
-Jimmy Novak is the name of my vessel. He died after the archangel Raphael discorporated me to a subatomic level. His soul was in Heaven until Lucifer chose to pull him back to use him as leverage. I cannot take him back because the gates of Heaven were once again closed.- Informed the angel as he left the knife on the counter and kneeled infront of the mess on the floor and hovered his hand over the mess which disappeared in the blink of an eye.
Meanwhile Mary looked like she wasn't sure how to process that knowledge. But at least she had put her gun away.
-So he is stuck with you?
-Technically speaking he is stuck with me considering this ishisbody.- Told Castiel matter of fact as he straightened back up.
-He is not gonna kick you out is he?- Asked Dean suddenly alarmed.
-No. He spoke with Claire but other than that he's chosen to keep himself occupied rummaging through my memories when he thinks I'm not paying attention.
-Your memories? Is that how he took the control back?- Asked Dean narrowing his eyes suspiciously.
-No. I let him. Like I said I cannot take him back to Heaven and I don't feel comfortable putting his soul into a sleep like state all the time which means he is sometimes aware of his surroundings. It's suffocating to watch and not be able to connect with reality... I'm...
Castiel wasn't sure how was he suppose to phrase this.
At least not in a way humans would be able to understand.
-I don't want to make a prisoner out of him. That's not how this was suppose to go. In Heaven he was in peace with his wife and because of me Lucifer pulled him back into this. The least I can do is give him some liberties so...
-You let him take control back?
-It's his body. He has all the right to do so.- Said Castiel almost as if Dean was stupid.- He would like to go back to his sandwich now.- Added the angel motioning to the sandwich he was still holding.
-Right...
