Prologue
Unlike her younger sister, Eliza, who'd always loved their abroad lifestyle, Deborah Thornberry—or simply Debbie—had only ever wanted a place to call home, and people to call friends. (For exposition, their parents filmed and hosted their own nature documentary series, called The Wild Thornberrys, so they traveled the world.) Eliza would probably live with their parents forever, Debbie predicted, since the former wanted to eventually work with them, but the latter was ready to move out of their family's ComVee, by the time she'd finally turned eighteen. At that point, her family had been in Africa, so they had to travel overseas, to reach the coast of California, where Debbie settled down by the beach. Despite that it came as no surprise, her family was still upset by her departure, as well as that of her adopted brother, Donnie, who she now had custody of, since she'd always been the one to take care of the once wild boy, and had developed a motherly love for him. At seven-years-old, Donnie—who'd been raised by an orangutan in his formative years, after the death of his parents, who'd been killed by poachers—had finally learned to speak properly, thanks to Debbie, who'd also taught him to read and write, as well as how to count, and interact politely with others. Now, that they were settled, she could provide him with the opportunities she'd never had, to attend public school, and form solid friendships. Hopefully, Debbie would be able to make friends of her own, as well as a name for herself in the music industry. "Debbie Thornberry," the headlines would someday read, "is the next Debbie Harry!."
