Saving Kara Zor-El

This is a preview/excerpt of a massive work I've been working on.

Linda stepped out of the interdimensional portal and found herself... inside someone's home. Her eyes scanned all over a spacious studio with no walls separating the kitchen, dining area and living area. There were racks of clothes by floor-to-ceiling windows, with a pair of glass doors opened slightly to reveal twinkling stars over a cityscape. There was an easel with an unfinished painting by the window, dirty dishes in the kitchen sink. It was colorful, cozy and obviously lived in.

Her eyes landed on a coffee table with a magazine titled 'Catco' and a newspaper called 'The Tribune'. She flipped through the magazine pages for some clues.

"Okay, so I'm in National City... Whoa, I'm in California! And... 2018?" She scanned the front page of a newspaper and found a picture of a blonde in a familiar blue and red suit hovering in the sky, a submarine over her shoulders. "Cool!" She nodded in approval. Another front page showed the blonde with a man in a similar red and blue suit, both of them smiling and high-fiving little kids on the street. "Oh, so that bastard's here, too?" she grumbled.

Her head shot up at the sight of a caped figure gliding through the glass doors, pale eyebrows arched up in question and shifting into a frown.

"Uh, hiii," Linda greeted tentatively, still clutching The Tribune.

"Who are you?" The blonde asked, planting her hands on her hips. "What are you doing here?"

"You're her," Linda said, pointing at the front page of the newspaper, then chided herself. "Duh, obviously."

"Yes, that's me," Kara replied. "Can I help you?"

"I'm sorry, I—" Linda hadn't exactly figured out how she would explain her presence to people here. She had rushed in through the strange portal without much of a plan. "Funny story, really. I'm from another place and... I somehow ended up here." She waved an arm around her.

"Another place?"

"Leesburg. Virginia." In for a penny. "From another Earth."

"Oh!" the blonde glanced around behind Linda. She asked with excitement, "Did Barry or Cisco send you?"

"Who?"

The frown returned, this time accompanied by crossed arms. "Which Earth are you from?"

"Sorry? I mean, I'm not really sure how all this works. But would you believe I'm from the future?"

"The future, wow! I mean I've been to another Earth but from the same present time. My friend Barry, though, he can travel to other timelines and Earths."

"Okayyy, so that's no surprise to you. That's... good, I guess?" Linda set down the newspaper on the coffee table and rubbed the side of her forehead. "Sorry, I'm so overwhelmed by all this. I just recently found out about parallel universes and time travel and all that."

"That's okay. It's a lot to take in."

With a deep breath, Linda extended her hand. "My name is Linda Danvers. And I'm Supergirl on my Earth."

Author's Notes

I am posting these here for interest, but will be updated and maintained in Archive of Our Own (AO3) since a majority of Supercorp readers are over there, and maintaining docs here is so ugh.

FFN is weird and territorial, so remove the space and tweak:

This Linda Danvers is based on a certain storyline in DC comics that I don't think I've seen on AO3. I won't spoil the story, but I will tell you that on Linda's Earth she is Supergirl. Linda has special powers KZ/Supergirl of Earth-38 does not have. It'll be fun! The story will focus on multiple friendships, primarily Linda and Kara, and of course there's Supercorp, which Linda will find out about and... well you'll see eventually!

So before "Hypothetical Romance" was born, I'd been working on this massive, complex story. This preview portion may change, but there you have it. Rating likely to bump up, and don't surprised to see eventual smut. ;)

I have a lot written in the middle and the end, ha! But the beginning needs work. (I write in sections around a loosely designed plot.)

Sadly my beta got too busy. I'm still in need for a beta to keep me sane. What I'm looking for:

- A soundboard for my ideas

- Spot where I may have plot holes or need more clarity

- Look over section drafts when ready for review

I'm pretty meticulous about grammar and spelling, so those are minor concerns compared to the above. Please PM me if you're interested.
