A.N: Every person has a lot going through their life, both good and bad. And sometimes, a small thing can make us explode, because we just can't take it after everything else. And, when we finally break down with sheer doneness of the world, sometimes, we just need someone to hold us and tell that it is okay to feel the way we are feeling.

So, when Tyson's dam of emotion break after a repeatedly occurring nightmare, his captain is there to catch him.

Eventually, Even The Greatest Dam Breaks

Kai was fast asleep after an absolutely exhausting day for the Bladebreakers. Kai and his teammates had spent the whole day training and preparing for their upcoming tournament. They had trained so much that Kai was actually considering giving them a day off to relax- and Kai Hiwatari never did that.

Right now, all of the boys were tucked in their comfortable sleeping bags at the Granger Residence, letting their exhausted muscles recuperate. But one person- who slept through almost anything- was awake.

It was none other than Tyson Granger. Tyson, despite being damn tired, despite going into a deep sleep, was awake because he had one hell of a nightmare. And now, he couldn't go back to sleep, as the moment he closes his eyes, the images from the nightmare flashes into his mind, startling Tyson and forcing him awake.

Now, Tyson didn't know what to do. Even if Tyson didn't want to go to sleep, he had to manage to get at least a few hours of shut eye because he was sure Kai was going to work their butts off tomorrow too.

He looked around the room and saw his friends - brothers even - sound asleep. He sighed and ran a hand through his sweaty bangs. He slowly stood up, his muscles protesting the movement after being made to run for five hours, instead of one hour, because of Tyson and Kai's competitive nature.

Tyson's mind flashed back to his and Kai's race: Kai actually asked the team to run 50 laps around the dojo, which took one hour. But then, Kai had taunted Tyson, when he was lagging behind the others, and that set Tyson's on a warpath, which led to both rivals running around the whole city for hours!

To Tyson, Kai was this elder brother who always pushed him to do his best. Sure, Hiro was there too, but it is kinda difficult to bond with someone who is always away from you, even though they are related to you.

Tyson did love Hiro, and he did look up to him. But he did not feel that connection that he felt with the other Bladebreakers with Hiro. When Hiro had left the Bladebreakers for Brooklyn, Tyson was feeling utterly betrayed.

Because, he thought that no matter what, Hiro would always have his back. But it turned out that Ray, Max and Kai, despite leaving the team, supported and had his back all the while, along with Kenny, Daichi and Hilary.

Tyson sighed and concentrated on the present situation. He slowly made his way out of the room and went to the kitchen. There, closing the door, he switched on the light and began boiling some water.

He then made himself some tea and tiredly made his way to the couch after switching off the kitchen lights. He sat down on the couch with his tea and began drinking it sip by sip. Once done, he felt himself getting a bit relaxed and he lay down on the couch, making himself comfortable.

Soon enough he was asleep. Which turned out to be a bad thing since he began having the same nightmare again.

Meanwhile, Kai was woken from his sleep by someone walking past his sleeping bag. He opened his eyes to see Tyson making his way out of the room. 'What is Tyson doing up at this unholy hour?' Kai thought as he settled to go back to sleep.

But sleep didn't come as quickly as it had the first time, and Kai lay awake, listening to the kitchen door being opened. Kai frowned, but still didn't make a move to get up. Then, no more sound came, and Kai figured that Tyson must've settled on the couch itself.

Then it started: a horrible screaming sound that woke everybody in the house. Kai instantly ran out of the room to see what was wrong, and saw Tyson thrashing about in his sleep, on the floor, beside the couch.

Kai immediately went to Tyson's side and began shaking him to wake him up. After trying and trying, Tyson finally sat bolt upright with a gasp, almost bashing his head against Kai's if it weren't for Kai's quick reflexes.

By now, the others were making their way to the living room, where they saw a shaking Tyson and a crouching Kai with his hands on Tyson's shoulders. They immediately made their way to the pair.

"Tyson, are you alright?" Max and Ray asked in unison.

"Yeah, T-man, are you doing good there?" Gramps asked.

Tyson took a few calming breaths and plastered a smile to his face. Then he said, "Yeah guys, I am fine. Just fell down the couch while sleeping and was startled, that's it. Sorry for waking you up. You can go back to sleep."

The others nodded and made their way back to bed, and Ray asked, "You coming, Kai?"

"No, I have something to do. You go," Kai replied.

Ray just nodded and left. Kai had to give it to Tyson, he was incredibly convincing. But Kai didn't buy the act- he knew Tyson was more shook up than he let on. Frowning, Kai took his hands away from Tyson's shoulders and stood up, holding out a hand to Tyson, who took it and stood up while saying, "You can go back to bed, Kai. I am fine."

"Hn."

Kai helped Tyson settle down on the couch and went back to get a glass of water for him, picking the empty - by the smell of it - tea cup from the tea table and placing it in the sink. When Kai came back and handed the water to Tyson, the Dragon started, "Really Kai, I'm-"

"If you give me the 'I'm fine' crap, I will seriously make you do extra training tomorrow, and I will also make Gramps give you a punishment in kendo."

Tyson immediately shut his mouth and drank the water given to him by Kai. After he finished the glass, Kai placed it back in the kitchen and came back to find Tyson curled up on the couch, knees pulled to his chest and head covered by his arms.

Kai sighed and made his way to the couch and sat beside Tyson, pulling the distraught Dragon into a tight hug, surprising Tyson very much. But Tyson didn't pull away.

He immediately curled even more into Kai and his shoulders started shaking with the effort of controlled sobs. Kai sighed inwardly, but didn't say anything or rush the teen in his arms. He just held Tyson in his protective and comforting embrace, letting Tyson take his own time to let out his burden.

Then, after a few minutes of suppressing, a sob made its way out of Tyson's mouth. After that, another came and another and another, and soon, he was full on crying, letting every controlled feeling out- Fear, humiliation, anger, even. But mostly fear.

Kai held the sobbing Dragon, unable to say anything. He didn't know what to say. So, he did the only thing he could - provide silent comfort; not stopping Tyson from letting out his emotions.

Kai usually didn't like people crying in front of him. But this - this was Tyson: the guy Kai deemed as a little brother, a comrade, a worthy rival, a person who stood by Kai for each and every decision made by Kai even when he didn't agree with it, and… A guy who always kept Kai and the Bladebreakers together, no matter what. So it was only fair that he got a shoulder to cry on too, that he also took comfort from them.

It was obvious that Tyson would never show any signs of weakness in front of others, because he didn't want to burden others with his problems. He was no longer that 13 year old little boy who always complained, no. He was a 17 year old who was mature and determined to fight all and any kind of evil, if it was the greater good. He didn't care about the sacrifices he needed to make in order to keep his loved ones happy and safe.

But one can only hold back so long. So, the nightmare proved to be the straw that broke Tyson's dam of emotions. Now, all Tyson needed was a person to hold him and listen to him, he needed a person to let him get it all out.

And Kai would be damned if he didn't give that to Tyson now. God knew that the Dragon deserved to be held. So, Kai kept on holding the Dragon, tightening his hold on him, as Tyson sobbed without a stop.

After what seemed like hours, the sobs lessened to sniffles and Tyson just buried himself deeper into Kai, holding onto him with a death grip.

"I am sorry you had to bear with that," Tyson muttered and Kai resisted the urge to smack Tyson's head.

"Don't be foolish, Tyson," Kai said, slightly rubbing Tyson's back and adjusting his position, so Tyson was snuggled into his side with his head on Kai's shoulder, and put his arm around Tyson.

"It was just a stupid nightmare and I started sobbing like a little child."

"That was not because of the nightmare alone, Tyson. That was days, maybe years' worth of pent up emotions. Trust me. You needed to let it out, and the nightmare was merely something that hastened the inevitable. If you had kept those feelings buried longer, you would have developed something worse. What happened was for your good only. But, fully aware that I am gonna sound like a hypocrite, you need to let out your feelings more, Tyson."

At this Tyson sniggered, as if to say 'Understatement of the century' and nuzzled against Kai's neck, who angled it a bit as it tickled.

"I am not talking only about happiness and hope, Tyson," Kai continued. "I am talking about your anger, sadness, and fear too. You need to let it out and talk about it to people around you, people who care about you, hmm?"

"Yeah," came the muffled response. Then, "You know, this is the most you have talked to me in all the years I have known you."

"Shut up, Tyson."

Tyson sniggered and went back to his thoughts. Soon, a yawn emitted from the Dragoon wielder.

Kai slowly pulled Tyson so that he was lying on the couch with his head on Kai's lap. Kai put his hand on Tyson's head, not moving or making any other kind of movement. It was a gesture to urge the emotionally exhausted Dragon to sleep, and let him know that he would be there for him. It seemed that Tyson got the message, because soon, Tyson's deep and even breathing was noticed by Kai, who was leaning back on the couch with his eyes closed.

Kai smiled a rare, fond smile and slowly stood up, with the sleeping Dragon cradled in his arms, with Tyson's head on Kai's shoulder.

Tyson just muttered something in his sleep and pushed his head even further into Kai's neck, rubbing it slightly, making Kai chuckle softly.

Kai made his way to his sleeping bag and gently placed Tyson on it. Then he pulled Tyson's sleeping bag beside his own and gently pushed Tyson into it. Then, he laid down on his own sleeping bag, Tyson immediately snuggling to him, needing the warmth.

Kai sighed and turned, facing Tyson, and wrapped his arms around Tyson, so that one arm was around Tyson's waist, holding him close to his chest, while the other acted as a pillow for Tyson's head. He was silently happy and relieved that the others were asleep, otherwise it would've been really embarrassing.

He pressed his lips to Tyson's temple and nuzzled the other's hair, thinking about Tyson's reaction the next morning.

A.N: Well, there you go. A sweet Kai. Okay, in my mind, Kai is this guy who, despite all his 'I work alone and I don't need anyone' attitude, will always be there to catch his teammates when they fall. We saw it when he went out of his way to Ray after the Salima situation, and when he cradle Wyatt in his arms, or when Tyson was feeling down after losing in the first World Championships, or when he visited Tala in the hospital. Agreed, he was not this open with affections, but in this story, Kai os 18, and I am sure that Tyson and the others would have gotten him to open up. So, that's why, I don't think that either of them were OOC.

Anyway, let me know what you all think through you reviews. It would mean a lot to me. Until next time! :)
