Wolf and Azima sat in the sand at the beach in companionable silence as they watched the sun rise. There were no words left to say, Azima and he had broken up, it was amicable but still it was always sad to break up with someone you loved.
Azima had loved America but she missed Kenya, she missed her friends and family; her life there. The mission of saving the world was finally over, America was not home for her. He understood it completely, he knew that drive to return home. He missed Australia, he just didn't have a home there to return to. Majority of his family and friends had died and the remaining survivors had dispersed across the globe.
He could've gone with Azima, but he didn't want to leave America. It might not be Australia but it was home for him at the moment. He had his found family with the Nathan James crew and he wanted to stay close to them. He wanted to put down roots, he wanted to be there for the next generation of Nathan James' kids. He didn't want to fly back and forth between the US and Kenya. He wanted to be right here, as it was where he felt he belonged.
"So, this is it." Azima said softly, she turned and smiled at Wolf. It was a soft smile of understanding, love with a touch of sadness.
"Yeah, we had a good run." Wolf said.
"Great run, you know, if you change your mind. You could come to Kenya. I can't promise I'll wait for you." She said, Wolf laughed.
"Nah, you can do better than me." Wolf assured her, he bumped shoulders with her. They both looked back out at the ocean. "Just promise me that you'll be happy and the next person you date is uglier than me." he teased.
"No, they will be more attractive than you. I refuse to lower my standards even for you." Azima told him, they both laughed and then sighed as they knew they shouldn't drag this goodbye out any longer than necessary. But they did not move from the beach as they were not ready to, at least not yet.
