Huey had been having a fairly normal day. Nothing was to be done, no adventures, no mythical beasts to fight. This was especially good news since they had been on an adventure every day that past week. Huey had been walking down the hallway, planning to head outside when he heard a voice:
"Hello, Huebert Duck."
Huey stopped mid-step.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet you."
He slowly turned towards the open window he had been passing to see a tall robin woman looking down at him. She was wearing a long, lavender toga and a golden wreath encircled her head.
It took Huey a moment to realize that this was a goddess. Her traditional Greek clothing should've given it away, but he was so shocked he didn't notice.
"O-oh my gosh!!" Huey exclaimed. "Um…. hello……….."
"It's Athena." She said, phasing through the wall and into the hallway. "I have come on urgent godly business. Where is your great uncle Scrooge?"
"Um… he's in his office. But, uh, I can take you there!"
"Thank you."
Huey watched Athena carefully. She had a very formal demeanor and seemed as if she was floating rather than walking. As they walked through the several hallways, he tried to start up a conversation.
"So, you're Athena?"
"Indeed I am."
"What brings you here?"
"I've come to discuss an important matter with your great uncle Scrooge."
"Um, yeah, I think I caught on to that……"
Huey stopped talking when they approached the office. When they opened the door, Scrooge was on the phone.
"No, I don't want to invest in your blaste-"
Scrooge looked up at the tall maiden and his jaw dropped.
"I'll have to call you back."
Scrooge hung up the phone and looked up at her. "Well, well, well. Would you look who it is? Miss High and Mighty Headache-Born herself."
"We don't have time for this, Scrooge! You and the rest of mankind are in grave danger!"
"What in the blazes are you talking about!?"
She cleared her throat. "My father has been captured by Titans. They intend on ending him once and for all."
Scrooge put a hand to his chest. "Oh, thank the rolling green hills! From your demeanor I thought it was bad news for a minute there."
Athena did not look amused. "It's not just him. It's the entire Parthenon. Along with the earth-dwelling oddballs, Selene and Storkules."
Scrooge straightened up, suddenly very grim. "Oh. Well those are much more grave tidings, indeed."
"All the gods? Seriously? What happened?" Huey wondered.
Athena sighed. "It is a tale quite demeaning to our supreme glory."
"Well, who did it?" Scrooge asked. Athena looked a bit startled.
"E-excuse me?"
"There's only one way the Titans could have escaped, someone must have set them loose. So go on, spit it out, who did it?"
Athena sighed again. "It was-"
Just then, Webby walked in. "Hey dad, I was wondering if you've seen my titanium crossbow I got a few Christmases ago. I've been looking everywhe-"
Webby stopped once she saw the stranger standing in the room. "Oh. My. Gosh. Are you ATHENA!?"
"Webby." Athena recognized. Webby's eyes lit up. "YOU KNOW MY NAME!?"
"The famed daughter of legendary Scrooge McDuck, one of the most clever mortals to ever exist. And the apple does not fall far from the tree." Athena smiled warmly. The girl squealed, ecstatic. "She compared me to an apple!"
"Yes, yes, lovely to see you." Scrooge dismissively said. "But, you were about to say who was behind this?"
"Ah, yes. I'm afraid it was…well, it was I."
"You?" Scrooge was perplexed. "Releasing the mighty Titans? That doesn't seem like a very wise choice for the goddess of wisdom to make."
"At least she's honest about it." Webby said with a shrug.
"You don't understand." Athena said. "I was forced to. And, logically, it seemed like the best option at the time."
"And why is that?" Scrooge asked.
"Because if I did not follow through, she would simply find someone else who would. And there is no way she would fail."
"Who is this she you keep talking about?"
"Eris." Athena replied. "Goddess of discord and contention. She ordered me to release the Titans or she would do it herself. I thought that I could easily defeat them, but……"
Athena stopped mid-sentence. Huey could see tears forming in her eyes. "You've never fought a Titan before, have you?" He said. "You were born after Zeus had defeated them."
"Not only that, but Eris aided them. Since the Titans are beings of pure chaos, she could easily boost their power with her own." The poor goddess looked distraught.
"This is troubling." Scrooge said, beginning to pace. "If I know a single thing about Titans, they'll want to reclaim the world from us mortals. And they'll do so by way of-"
"Yeah, yeah, horrific monster rampage." Louie entered the room, hands in his pockets. Scrooge rolled his eyes. "Not just any old monsters, lad. Titans. Children of the Earth herself."
"Wait, there's gonna be a Titan rampage?" Della poked her head into the room next. "When? How? Where?"
"Della, what are you doing in here?" Donald asked. The two of them paused once they saw Athena standing in the room. "Aw, phooey." Donald said. "What is it this time?"
"Athena!!" Della shouted, grabbing her in a hug. "I'm so glad to see you!"
"Believe me, I missed you too." Athena said in a sarcastic tone. "Aw, come on, why the long face?" Della asked, letting go of her 'friend.' "Aren't you happy to see me?"
"No, not exactly. Not after the last time we met, when you-"
"SO." Della interrupted. "What brings you to the mansion?"
"Oh, not much. Just the fact that ALL OF MANKIND IS GOING TO PERISH."
Della inhaled deeply. "Ooh boy. That sounds bad. So, what exactly happened?"
Athena recapped the situation to the three of them, making sure not to miss any important details.
"Wow, that does sound bad." Louie said. "What're you gonna do about it?"
"Well, that's why I came here. Despite having some *ahem* incompetent members in your family, when working together you are the most powerful mortals on the planet."
"Whoaah." Della said, eyes shining. "Well, I guess that means there's only one thing to do. FAMILY MEETING!!"
——————————
The family all sat at the dining room table, half of them staring at Athena. "Um, so… why is Athena in our house?" Dewey asked.
"Yes, I believe an explanation is in order." Beakley said.
Athena sighed for about the fifth time that day. She then recapped the situation to everyone at the table, this time skipping some less important details.
"… and that is why all of mankind could possibly perish." She concluded. Dewey and Beakley gaped at Athena in shock. "So what you're saying is…." Dewey said. "….. we get to fight ANOTHER Titan?"
"Well, not exactly right now." Athena said. "I thought we could construct a team of the 8 of you, some other powerful mortals, and the remaining gods and goddesses."
"Wait, there's more left?" Huey said. "I thought you said the entire Parthenon was taken."
"Well, that wasn't exactly true. There are still some minor gods and goddesses that could aid us in defeating the Titans."
"Well, how are we gonna find them? They could be anywhere in the world right now!"
"That's another reason I came here. I want one of your scientists to invent a device that can track any godlike aura across the globe."
"Scientist? Do you mean Gyro?" Scrooge asked.
"What? That complete egomaniac? No, I've come for your scientist who actually has the common sense not to add morality circuits to everything. Where is Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera?"
Scrooge stared at her instead of answering. "You mean… the intern?"
"No, he's not JUST an intern. He's one of the most intelligent beings on the planet."
Athena insisted. "He has mass amounts of raw talent and the humility to use his gifts to help others and not himself. Unlike some Duckburg scientists with an affinity for anise."
Della snorted, holding up a fist. "I feel you, girl." Athena fist bumped her.
"Who's Anise?" Wondered Donald.
"So, we're just going to burst in and casually kidnap Mr. Crackshell-Cabrera from the lab?" Beakley wondered. Athena shook her head. "Of course not. We'll be picking up more allies first."
"Where are we finding godly allies in Duckburg?" Webby asked.
Athena stared coldly ahead. "A local coffee shop."
