Jubal had been trying to set up a night that he could take Maggie for dinner with Dr Tom Stevenson to meet his wife Maureen and to get to know them both. Maggie had been really keen for this to happen especially after Tom had been so helpful and so involved with her sister Erin's latest recovery in rehab. However work had been getting in the way for them all, whenever Tom actually had time off from the hospital Jubal and Maggie were called in to work or had the kids. Things were finally coming together, the team had finished up work at a decent time and Tom was off work so they were going to Tom and Maureen's house to have dinner.
Maggie was just finishing up getting ready sliding on her shoes to match her dress as Jubal came out of the bathroom in his tighter fitting trousers and shirt and it caught Maggie's attention straight away.
"So I see you want it to be impossible for me to keep my hands off at you dinner." She smirked playfully as she looked at Jubal.
"Hey a man has to try and look his best when his girlfriend is so beautiful." Jubal made his way towards Maggie who was sitting on the edge of their bed, he leaned down kissing her softly when he was close enough.
Maggie smiled lifting her hand to Jubal's cheek as she kissed him back softly "Always Mr Sweet with your words." She teased playfully before standing up now that her shoe was fixed and she brushed down her dress with her hands straightening it. "So you really think I look okay?." Maggie was a little nervous because she knew how much Tom meant to Jubal.
Jubal stepped closer to Maggie and he ran his hands along her upper arms slowly as he smiled softly at her "Baby you look more than okay, you really do look so beautiful Mags. I know you are nervous about tonight but you just have to be yourself, I promise that Tom and Maureen are going to love you."
Maggie loved how Jubal knew that she was nervous about tonight without her having to actually say anything to him, she lay her hands on his hips stepping in closer to him. "I just want tonight to go really well babe, I know how much Tom and Maureen mean to you, especially with how much I hear your sister talking about them as well."
Maggie knew that meeting Tom and Maureen was a really big deal for Jubal, they were family to him but Tom was also someone that he really looked up to and whose opinion really mattered to Jubal. Maggie had come to learn that listening to both Jubal and his sister Jenny talk about Tom. Jubal smiled as he watched Maggie, he loved that she understood that this really was important to him, but to him she really had nothing to worry about. He ran his hands along her arms taking her hands squeezing them gently.
"Tonight will be great baby, Tom already really likes you and Maureen is going to love you but thank you for understanding how important it is to me for you to meet them and to really spend some time with Tom."
"You don't have to thank me babe, I'm just sorry it took us so long to finally get a night that we could have dinner with them." Maggie leaned up kissing Jubal softly "Come on let's go we don't want to be late, that is not a great first impression for me to make on Toms wife." Maggie chuckled softly as she stepped back from Jubal so that she could grab her purse.
Jubal shook his head laughing "We have left ourselves plenty of time baby don't worry it won't take us long getting to Toms house, but I'm ready whenever you are."
"I'm ready babe so lets go." Maggie smiled as she walked past Jubal, running her hand along his arm as she stepped past him. Jubal couldn't take his eyes off Maggie as she walked in front of him, yes to him she looked beautiful curled up on their couch in his hoodie but it wasn't often that he got to see her dressed up like this so he was really enjoying the rare opportunity. He had wanted to take Maggie out more on proper dates but she kept telling him that coming home to him and spending time with the kids was all that she needed. He really had no idea how he had got so lucky to have this incredible woman be in love with him.
The drive to Tom and Maureen's really didn't take long at all, they got out of Jubal's suv with Maggie lifting the dessert that they had taken with them. Neither of them wanted to show up empty handed and Maggie felt that bringing dessert was better than bringing a bottle of wine. Jubal came around to walk beside Maggie as he slid his arm around her waist pulling her in close to him kissing her cheek.
"Relax baby, tonight is going to be great." He knocked the door and it was answered within seconds by Tom who greeted them with a large smile.
"Jubal, Maggie, it's so good to see you both. I'm delighted that you both could join us tonight, come on in." Tom stepped back holding the door open so that Maggie and Jubal could step inside.
When they got inside Jubal hugged Tom, he was one of the few people that Maggie ever saw him hugging, he smiled looking at Tom. "It's good to see you too Tom, we are both glad that we are finally getting to have dinner with you and Maureen. Where is Maureen?."
"I'm right here dear." Maureen smiled as she came walking towards Jubal with a large smile on her face when she saw him "Tom moved the quickest I have seen in a long time to answer the door." She teased her husband playfully as she stepped forward hugging Jubal tight "It's been far too long from we have seen you around here."
Jubal chuckled softly hearing Maureen and he hugged her back just as tight "I know I'm sorry that it has been so long, things have just been a little crazy the last few months." Jubal stepped back from the hug and stood beside Maggie "Maureen this is Maggie."
Maureen smiled brightly looking at Maggie as she stepped forward hugging Maggie which caught her by complete surprise. "It's so nice to finally meet you Maggie, you are as beautiful as Tom said." She smiled as she had her hands resting on Maggie's upper arms.
Maggie was surprised by the hug from Maureen but she responded instantly "I'm so glad that I am finally getting to meet you, Jubal and Jenny talk a lot about you and Tom."
Jubal raised an eyebrow playfully looking at Tom "Should I be worried that you have been telling your wife how beautiful my girlfriend is?."
"I was just surprised that you managed to get yourself a girlfriend that is as beautiful as Maggie so I had to share that news with Maureen." Tom teased Jubal playfully.
Maggie shook her head laughing as she looked at Maureen "Are these two always like this when they are together?."
"I'm afraid so." Maureen shook her head gently laughing "They have been like this from the day that they met. How about we go into the dining room, dinner should be ready in a few minutes."
"No idea how you have put up with them both." Maggie smirked when Jubal nudged her hip gently saying 'Hey' when he heard her. He took the dessert from Maggie so that she could take off her jacket handing it to Tom when he held out his hand for it.
Jubal smiled looking at Maureen "It okay if I go and set this in your kitchen? We brought some dessert."
"You know that you didn't have to bring anything dear we just wanted your company" Maureen had such a gentle, warm smile. Maggie had noticed it straight away. Maureen held her hands out to Jubal "I can take it with me into the kitchen, you and Maggie go on in to the dining room."
"I'll join you both in a few minutes, I'll go and grab us all some drinks. Maggie would you like a glass of wine with dinner?." Tom looked at Maggie as he spoke.
"I'm good with what everyone else is drinking, thank you Tom." Maggie smiled softly, she had been on strong pain meds for her ribs after her undercover operation and she had to take them again this morning after chasing a suspect so drinking wasn't the best idea for her right now.
"Well Jubal you know the way to the dining room, we will be with you both in a few minutes." Tom smiled as he walked towards the kitchen with Maureen, as they were walking Tom had ran his hand along Maureen's back as they walked close together.
"They are very sweet together, I see that Tom isn't the only one in this house that thinks a lot of you." Maggie smiled as she turned to face Jubal.
Jubal took Maggie's hand as he lead the way towards the dining room and he smiled running his thumb along Maggie's hand. "They have come through so much together and came out of it stronger and even more in love, that was something that I had always wanted to find and now I have with you." He smiled as he leaned in stealing a soft and quick kiss from Maggie. "Maureen is amazing, she really became like a second mum to me. When I was getting sober she made Tom take me here for dinners to make sure that I was eating properly."
Maggie ran her hand along Jubal's arm slowly as she listened to him talking about Maureen and Tom, she loved that she was getting to find out more about Jubal's relationship with them. "Did Tom and Maureen have kids? I haven't heard you mention any kids when talking about them."
Jubal pulled out one of the seats for Maggie at the table before sitting down beside her but he turned his body to face her more, he took her hand back in his with his free arm resting on the back of her chair. "No, they had wanted their own kids but it just never happened for them which really is a shame because they would have been amazing parents."
Maggie leaned back in her chair laying her head lightly against Jubal's arm as she squeezed his hand gently "So when they were helping you with your sobriety you became like a son to them? I mean it's clear to see how much they both love you Jubal, Maureen's face lit up like my mums did when I opened our apartment door to her at Christmas."
Jubal smiled honestly hearing Maggie as he loved how she was picking up on the relationship that he had with Maureen and Tom. He was caressing her hand while talking "Yeah I guess I did kinda become like a surrogate son to them, and they have grown to love Jen just as much. That was why it was so important for me that you got to meet them and spend time with them. I wanted to let you in on this part of my life baby."
Maggie leaned over as she kissed Jubal softly but with so much love, lifting her free hand to his cheek letting her thumb caress his cheek gently "Thank you for letting me see this part of you life babe, I love getting to learn new things about you."
Jubal lay his forehead lightly against Maggie's when they broke the kiss as he leaned in to her touch on his cheek "When we first started dating baby I told you that I wanted you to see the real me and Tom and Maureen are a huge part of that. I love that you are so genuinely interested in my relationship with them, that really does mean so much to me Mags."
"They are a huge part of your life and they were by your side during the hardest time in your life babe so of course I am interested in your relationship with them. They are important to you, so that makes me want to get to know them. But you know you could have given me a heads up that this was basically like a meeting the parents dinner." Maggie smirked playfully as she placed small kisses to Jubal's lips.
"And have you freaking out with nerves, panicking even more about making a good impression on them?." Jubal joked playfully raising his eyebrow as he gave back every small kiss.
Maggie chuckled softly as she heard Jubal "You really do know me so well."
"I'll say it again baby, all you have to do is be you and they will see why it was impossible for me not to fall in love with you." Jubal kissed Maggie again a little deeper this time as he let go of her hand running his hand along her arm, up to her neck and finally resting on her cheek gently.
Maureen had been walking out of the kitchen to make her way to the dining room and almost walked into her husband, she was about to ask him what he was doing when he just nodded towards Maggie and Jubal. They couldn't hear what the couple were saying but they couldn't take their eyes off them as they watched them lean their foreheads lightly against each other, their hands having to be on each other and they noticed how Maggie had been resting against Jubal's arm.
"You really were serious when you said that Jubal was madly in love with Maggie." Maureen spoke to her husband quietly.
"I've never heard him talk about anyone the way that he speaks about her and he doesn't even know he's doing it at times." Tom was going to say something more but he noticed Maggie and Jubal kissing and he couldn't resist the chance to tease them both playfully again. Tom stepped in to the dining room clearing his throat "You know you two really need to not make this a habit." He smirked as he made his way towards the table.
Maggie laughed as she lay her forehead against Jubal's arm as he groaned playfully looking at Tom "You know I am really going to buy a bell for you or something so that we can hear you entering a room."
"You know there is another way to make it not happen again?." Tom joked as he sat down across from Jubal.
"Yeah but we both know I'm not going to give up kissing Mags so you are just going to have to wear a bell when around us." Jubal smirked playfully.
Maureen came in carrying their plates on a tray and she shook her head gently laughing "So Tom wasn't joking his first time meeting Maggie was really walking in on you two kissing?."
"I think I said making out like teenagers." Tom smirked as he helped Maureen hand out the plates and he gently pushed out her chair for her to sit down beside him.
"No he was being serious, in our defence Mags had been injured at work and that was my first time getting to see her since it had happened. Like I said he needs to wear a bell or announce his entrance in to a room." Jubal shook his head laughing.
Maggie shook her head laughing hearing Jubal "Jen does want to have dinner with you Tom so that she can question you about that. She may have found it a little too funny for Jubal's liking when she first found out." She teased playfully looking at Jubal.
"Hey, you are suppose to be on my side, not encouraging him to give Jen more things that she can use against me." He nudged Maggie's shoulder gently as they turned to face the table when the plates were sat down in front of them.
"Oh babe it's not like your sister doesn't already have enough to use against you, so it's not like one more thing will really make it any worse." Maggie laughed softly as Jubal pulled a funny face at her as he knew that she was right. They were both too busy looking at each other to notice that the couple sitting across from them couldn't take their eyes off them and they had both picked up on Maggie calling Jubal babe.
