Unfortunately, the rights to Harry Potter are in the hands of a TERF. I don't agree with She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named's views, but I refuse to let that ruin my enjoyment of this series. So instead, I'm inserting LGBTQ characters whenever I feel like it.
Hello! Why, is this me starting yet another WIP? Yes, yes it is. Welcome.
This is something that got stuck in my head after reading "Strangers at Drakeshaugh" by Northumbrian. What if James's best friend turned out to be a muggle-born wizard? Well that plot bunny wouldn't let go, so here it is.
This is just an intro chapter. The rest will be much longer than this and of a different style (see my other works for my usual style).
Chapter Word Count: 281
Mrs. Maddie Taylor of Number 12, Cypress Lane had always thought something was a little off about the Potters. She and her family had lived next door to them for eight years, and she still found them extremely odd.
Mrs. Ginny Potter was easily confused by various technologies, from the telephone to the microwave. To Maddie's knowledge, she didn't drive either. She appeared to be a stay-at-home mother, yet seemed to disappear with the children at random times.
Mr. Harry Potter, on the other hand, had no problems with anything technological, but was strange in his own way. He never talked about working, but was presumably doing so during the weekdays, as they never saw him. However, Maddie had never heard the Potters' car leave in the morning or arrive in the afternoon, and neither had her wife Mia.
The Potters had three children: 10-year-old James, 9-year-old Albus, and 7-year-old Lily. While James's features were a mix of both his parents, Albus was a miniature version of his father and Lily greatly took after her mother. All three children were extremely polite and kind, and Maddie was happy to have the family as neighbors.
James and the Taylors' son Matt had been best friends since they met on their first day at primary school. It had been a pleasant surprise to all four parents that they lived next door. The boys were inseparable, and it was rare to see one without the other.
While Maddie was used to it, she sometimes wondered about the strange things that happened around the Potters. She had never expected to be given answers, or that the catalyst for those answers would be an acceptance letter.
Thanks for reading! Again, I know this is super short, but this was mainly just to set the scene. The next chapter will be up soon(ish - I've got grad school going on). Until next time!
