Volleyball Diaries

This fanfiction covers the events that follow after the Spring Tournament, the end of Hinata's first year in high school. This is an exploration into the inner lives of characters I love so much. Hinata has always been a ball full of energy but that doesn't mean he does not seldom face existential crisis of his own. This is his coming-out story.

"What are you reading?" Sugawara asked.

Hinata's eyes didn't leave the article he was reading "Just something on how to maintain a proper protein diet."

Nishinoya who was throwing passes at the wall butted in "There is a place next to our school where they started selling new volleyball equipment, want to check it out?"

"I went there yesterday. I'll go with you Nishinoya" said Tanaka who just entered the court. His expression looked quite giddy that made Asahi join "I'll come along as well."

Tanaka jumped high then in a half squat position shouted "NOOOOOOO"

Hinata, finally stopped reading and looked up. Usually he found himself bubbling up with energy, ready to throw himself in any discussion but lately his mood has been off. He hated the inconsistency, the gloom. His first year was about to end but he felt the anxiety of being a third year. What was he doing? Should he be thinking about career options that made money? His family wasn't struggling but since his father died he felt the urgency to be a grown up and take care of his mother and sister.

Asahi squinted "Why?"

Tanaka straightened himself, displaying a smile full of arrogance "My girlfriend works there. She said I can't come there to meet her and not buy anything so I plan on taking one friend everyday."

Nishinoya started jumping up and down around Tanaka chanting "Knee pads, knee pads, knee pads."

Ennoshita sighed "It has been two months and I still can't believe Tanaka is the first one to get a girlfriend among us."

For some reason Suga's cheeks reddened.

Nishinoya wrapped his arms around himself which the other members found creepy "Shimizu-san is all mine." and at the same time she entered.

She was the only one not dressed in gym attire because she had to leave early today to complete her last year project.

Nishinoya started running towards her "Shimi-" but was interjected by Tanaka who rushed faster and stood in front of her.

"Shimizu-san you have been in my heart for two years but I regret to inform that our love must end today, Amanai finds it annoying and said she would break up."

Suga was the first one to laugh and everyone followed.

Shimizu replied with a poker face as always "Okay."
