The rain poured off of the roof, covering the window pane in small rivers of the water

Tohru sat in her and her mothers apartment, watching the water fall from the sky outside.

Waiting.

"It's already 6, mom should be home for dinner.

"Tohru stiffened. She had dinner made and the table set but wasn't sure if it would just be her mother coming home. Her mom had a tendency to bring men into the house. They weren't kind men with steady jobs, they were men from her gang or in the environment that her gang would hang out in.

Sometimes these men would notice her. They would tell her how pretty she was and ask her what she wanted to be when she grew up, like a kind stranger who was making casual conversation to a child.

Sometimes they wouldn't say a thing.

Sometimes they would only notice her after Kyoko had stepped out of the room or went to the store to get something.

Tohru didn't like those times. The men would make her very uncomfortable. Sometimes it was just an awkward silence, but sometimes they would get too close to her.

Close.

"They smelled bad. She hated how salty they smelled. They reeked of sweat and beer as if they hadn't showered in weeks and had been living in a bar.

She didn't want them to get close to her.

There was one man, Travis. He came often, knowing that Kyoko would forget to buy groceries at times, leaving Tohru with nothing the eat. He would supply Tohru with the money she needed to survive and would bring her gifts such as donuts, cakes, and even a little kitten which she named Moon

Tohru liked Travis. He was an older man, maybe late 40s. He had salt and pepper hair and a small beer gut and sometimes would smell of beer but most of the time he was one of the cleaner men.

She wished all of the men her mom brought home would be like Travis. Maybe if they were she wouldn't mind them coming over all of the time.
