It was a calm and clear night in the Gerudo Desert. The sands slowly shifted over the dunes. Even the usually lively Gerudo Town was having a peaceful night. That was the way it was at least until a cry broke the still silence. It was the cry of a newborn baby. A Gerudo woman had just given birth. The cries were quickly muffled though once the baby's gender was identified, it was a male. The cursed Gerudo male born once every hundred years. This would mean he would be sentenced to death. Luckily, two women had prepared for this situation and were on the scene with the mother.

"It's a boy!'' said the first.

"Then it's time to put the plan into action," said the second.

"Are you sure you can keep him safe Kohm"? asked the mother weakly.

"We will try our best, Vilia," said Kohm with hesitance in her voice. None of them were sure the plan would work. Hopefully, by the next morning the mother and child would be safe in Central Hyrule. Shabonne picked him up after cleaning him, and wrapped him up in blankets. Then, she silenced his crying by giving him a pacifier. She then made a run for her sand seal, but was stopped by the guards at the gate.

"Halt!'' said one of them, but Shabonne kept running. The guard chased after her, but she reached a sand seal first. She quickly slid away and left the guard in the sand.

Meanwhile, back in Gerudo Town, Kohm was helping Vilia out of town. They used a different exit than Shabonne to avoid suspicion. Vilia could hardly walk, having just given birth, and Kohm decided to carry her instead. They also used a sand seal, and they hurried out of town. The moon shone brightly, and they met Shabonne at the entrance to Gerudo Canyon. From there, they got horses from the stables, and they rode out of the canyon.

By the time they got to Central Hyrule, it was almost dawn. They found a cave, and the exhausted Vilia collapsed unconscious on the ground. Kohm had to leave to go back to her Sand Seal business, but she wished them luck. Shabonne stayed behind, and helped care for the baby that day. She expected that Vilia would awake soon, but as hours passed by she began to lose hope. Finally, she realized that Vilia was dead. She buried her outside of the cave, but didn't know what to do next. She needed to get back to Gerudo Town, but she couldn't just leave the baby here. She needed to find someone to take care of him. Just then, a Gerudo merchant passed by the cave. Shabonne called out to her, and explained the situation. Shabonne lied and told her that the baby was named Vilia, after "her" mother, who had died giving birth. The Gerudo merchant agreed to take care of the baby. By the time she figured out that Shabonne had lied, it was already too late. The Gerudo Merchant decided to raise Vilia as a girl, and she took him with her on her travels.

When he grew old enough to live on his own, she told him the truth about what she knew had happened. She even gave him a disguise to get into Gerudo Town. Then, he was left on his own. He travelled to Gerudo Town in disguise, and met Kohm and Shabonne. They told him the rest of the story, and where his name came from. Surprisingly though, he chose to forget his past, and lived as a female merchant in Kara Kara Bazaar. No one else figured out his secret until a young man found him. He asked for a disguise, and Vilia willingly sold him some Gerudo clothes for an expensive price. That you man, as many of you already know, was Link.
