"Hey, hey Mikey!"
Michael Westen was desperate. He needed to get the money for Jack somehow. Carla, she had the cash and definitely another mission for him. Sam was in his way. He shoved him hard and was only a little surprised that he pushed back.
"Move, Sam."
"Mike, listen I can't let you do this. She'll own you forever."
Michael's vision blurred momentarily, he struck out, missed Sam, and stumbled. Sam punched back. Blinded by the pain he struck again, this time hitting Sam full force.
"Mike, come on"
Michael turned his back to Sam and tried to gather his strength. He rubbed his forehead, trying to ease the stabbing pain. His head swam and pricks of black dotted his vision. With a grunt, he sank to his knees.
"Mike?"
Sam ran forward and grabbed Michael's shoulders.
"Mike, you alright? I didn't think I hit you that hard."
Michael straightened up and brushed off Sam's hands.
"It's nothing, Sam."
"That wasn't nothing, you should be in a hospital. Let's not forget you nearly died two days ago."
Michael ignored Sam's remark and stood up. He swayed a bit and leaned heavily against a nearby table.
"I'm fine."
Michael forced himself to stand straight and immediately regretted it.
"Sam, I-"
Michael was unconscious before he hit the floor. Sam, who was still hovering over him, managed to keep his head from hitting anything
"Fine, my ass."
"Sam, I've been calling and calling, where are you and Michael, we're running out of time."
"Fi, I'm at the hospital. Mikey passed out so I brought him to get checked out."
"Is he alright? You should have called me"
"I called as soon as I could. Do you know how hard it is to answer all their questions without telling them what actually happened. The doc wants to keep him under observation for a few days. He's got a uh subdural hematoma from the explosion. The doc doesn't think he'll need surgery, but they can't know for sure yet. Michael wants us to finish the case without him. It was the only way I could persuade him to stay."
"I have an idea Sam, meet me at Madeline's."
"And that's how we did it."
Michael looked from Sam's eager face to Fiona, who was sitting legs crossed on the chair by his bedside finishing the last of his jello.
"They're all taken care of?"
"Yeah man, they're all set, Jack starts his treatment in a few days."
"Oh yeah, said Fiona, "they have nothing to worry about" she scraped the last of the jello from the cup and licked the spoon.
Sam looked at her and slowly got up, "I think I'm gonna go, I'm sure you two have a lot to talk about."
"Sam. Wait." Michael sighed as Sam closed the door behind him.
"Fi, I…"
"Michael you could have died, you almost did. What if Sam hadn't been there?"
"Fi."
"I know looking into your burn notice is important to you but is it worth your life?"
She sat on the bed next to him and ran her hand through his hair.
"From now on I'll be more careful Fi."
"Promise?"
"Fi."
"Promise me, Michael."
He squirmed around to look into her eyes.
"Alright, Fi, I promise. I'll be fine."
He settled back on the pillows and closed his eyes. She planted a kiss on top of his head.
