Fatima was seven months pregnant with their first child, a baby girl they planned to name Sarima. Fatima had taken the day off due to severe back pains that the doctors had said were just from the extra weight and nothing to worry about. She had gotten tired of asking Rountree to help her with her hair every single morning, so she sat down in front of the mirror with a pair of scissors. She began clipping her hair until it was about an inch past her chin. She realized that she liked the way it looked once it was even. She couldn't wait to see what Rountree thought of it. Then the front door opened.
"Hey, baby girl. I'm home," he called out. Fatima grinned.
"Come in here! I have a surprise for you," she replied. Rountree went into the bathroom and his jaw dropped.
"What did you do?! Why the hell would you cut your beautiful hair?" Rountree was shocked, but he was also upset. He loved Fatima's long, dark curls, and now they were incredibly short.
"You like?" she asked shyly. Rountree couldn't control himself.
"Not really! You know how much I loved your long hair! Why would you cut your hair?" he yelled. Fatima's eyes widened.
"Because it's hard to take care of! And I'm sorry I didn't ask permission, I didn't realize we time traveled to the 1950s!" she yelled back. Rountree stared at her. He realized that he sort of loved the way her curls got in her face. Then he reached out and squeezed her hand.
"You're right. You don't need my permission for anything. I'm sorry I treated you like that. And for the record, when I said you would look beautiful no matter what, I meant it," he whispered. Fatima smiled.
"Well thank you. I appreciate you admitting your mistake. Now feed me," she said. Rountree smiled and took ger hand in his.
