It was a regular day in New York City. The sun was shining bright, the sunlight it was emitting shined down on the world. Pedestrians were walking the streets, carrying their suitcases for work or their phones. It was a regular day for Peter Parker too, who was chasing after the bus whilst being laughed at by his fellow classmates.
"HEY! Stop the bus!" Peter yelled, desperately trying to catch up to the bus like a cat chasing a mouse. Peter Parker seemed just like any other teenager though compared to the others he was very intelligent. He managed to always be at the top of his class in Chemistry, Biology and Physics and he was a gifted person. Unfortunately this made him a target of bullying and even the bus driver found it amusing to annoy him.
After what felt like hours the bus driver finally slowed down to allow Peter to get on. Peter breathed heavily, panting as he tried to regain his breath. Once he did he glared at the bus driver, ready to go in there and give him a piece of his mind. But before he did he realised that's not want his Uncle Ben would want. He sighed before getting on the bus not even sparing a glance towards the bus driver.
Immediately when he entered the bus everyone was laughing at him. He stood there embarrassed, picking up his glasses which had fallen off as he listened to their laughter. He immediately started looking for a seat, intent on escaping being the Centre of attention. As he was walking though he was tripped by his enemy since seventh grade, Flash Thompson. Peter looked up to the jock and he had blonde hair and he was really tall, especially compared to Peter.
"Watch we're you're going Parker!" Flash snickered, sitting back down in his seat.
"Leave him alone asshole," a voice said. Peter looked up towards the person who spoke and saw a girl with blonde hair and glasses. She was reading a book on Biology, probably preparing for the upcoming test in a few weeks time.
"What're you going to do about it?" Flash stated challengingly though he was interrupted by the bus driver who finally decided to intervene and told Flash and Peter to both sit down. Flash sat on the seat he had already been sitting in next to Kenneth Kong. Peter was still looking for one but the person who defended him offered him the seat next to her which he gladly accepted.
"Thanks for the help back there." Peter said in a grateful tone. Other than Harry no one had really stuck up for him before. Well, there was Mary Jane but she was dating Flash but she didn't know really see Peter get bullied much.
"No problem. We don't need jackasses like him bothering us do we Peter?" The girl asked.
"Wait, how do you know my name? I don't remember seeing you in any of my classes." Peter asked, curiosity getting the better of him.
"We're in the same Chemistry and Maths' classes. Though you probably wouldn't know that as you're too busy looking at that red-headed girl." She teased.
"W-what are talking about?" He stuttered, embarrassed. She just gave him a look which made him sigh. "Is it that obvious?"
"Painfully so." She chuckled. "Relax, no one else knows... I think." She said playfully.
Peter decided to change the subject: "So do you like Biology?" Peter asked.
"It's my favourite subject actually. Have you read this book yet?" She asked Peter. "I know you're good at it considering you're always at the top of the class."
"Yeah actually! I've always had an interest in genetics, I've read through Doctor Connor's research several times and the idea of splicing together the DNA of a human and animal and- oh sorry, I'm not boring you am I?" He asked shyly. He always had a habit of rambling on. Harry had always said he needed to stop doing that but to a habit he's never been able to break.
"No it's fine! It's actually a nice change of pace. Most of the time you're hearing about sports, people complaint about class that it's kind of refreshing to hear something talk about it in a good way. It also helps that I'm sort of a nerd myself." The girl said, smiling at Peter.
"So you're excited about going to Oscorp then?" Peter asked. He had remembered today was the trip to Oscorp, Harry was already there as he was the son of the CEO himself, Norman Osborn.
"Definitely. It's one of the only benefits of coming to this city. I was born in Canada and lived there for a long time but then my mother died so I moved in with my dad over here. I'm still upset I had to leave but I'm glad to go to Oscorp."
"I'm sorry to hear that." He said truthfully. Despite his condolences he couldn't really relate. He never lost someone close to him before so he didn't know what it was like.
"Can we please talk about something else?" The girl asked turning away to look out the window. Her tone suggested that she was still grieving and Peter didn't want to pry so they went back to talking about other things. He actually enjoyed talking to her and he found out he could talk to her about stuff Harry and MJ weren't really interested in.
Suddenly the bus came to a stop and he realised they finally arrived at Oscorp Tower. Peter looked out the window and admired the massive building he saw in front of the bus. He had never been this close before ad though he'd been to Oscorp Mansion he never had been to the tower. Despite the day starting poorly things were looking up. He couldn't wait to explore the labs and see everything!
"I'll see you inside Peter." The girl said, getting up to walk away. It was at that moment he realised he didn't know the girl's name. Peter mentally scolded himself, annoyed he had forgot such an obvious question.
"Wait! What's your name?" Peter asked, raising an eyebrow.
She turned and looked at him before saying: "Gwen Stacy." She said, smiling at him one last time before exiting the bus.
--
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE FIRING ME!" Yelled Adrian Toomes. He couldn't believe it. He had devoted his life to Oscorp, building perhaps one of its greatest inventions in the history of the company and he was being fired!?
"Yes Adrian." Norman Osborn said calmly, not even flinching at his tone of voice. "I've decided you've become too unstable. We did good work together, no doubt about that. But you've become obsessive and the recent lab disaster with the project has been one of several reports in the last few months."
"Those were all necessary to get where we are today and you didn't object to any of them at the time! It's only now you're bringing this up. You want to take credit for my work!" Adrian screamed at Osborn, ready to attack him but the security guards held him back. Adrian could swear he saw a nervous look flash on Norman's face for a split second which only confirmed his theory.
"That's enough! Guards, escort Mr Toomes out. Don't worry though Adrian, I'm still giving you a sum of one million dollars for a contribution to your company as gratitude. This isn't personal Adrian, it's just business. Your recent tests have caused harm to Oscorp's employees and that I will not stand for. Goodbye Adrian."
One of the guards put a hand on Adrian's shoulder and gave him a slight nudge. "Come on Mr Toomes." The guard murmured, but he was met with a punch to the face by Adrian. The other guard sprung onto action and tackled Adrian. Both guards dragged Adrian out of Norman's office whilst he was still screaming that Osborn would pay.
Norman let a slight smirk appear on his face but it was gone as quick as it appeared. He stood up from his desk and walked over to the corner of his office. He looked at the chess board before moving a few pieces on it and a secret room appeared, opening up to allow Norman in. He walked down the steps to his secret lab. The main attraction of the lab was the glider in the middle of the lab. It was what Toomes had been working on. It was a mechanical glider that had many useful weapons and it was durable. It took a while to build it but it was finally complete. There were other items too. For example, mechanical arms designed by Otto Octavius which was still in the prototype stage as well as a green hlemet designed to defend ones head against bullets and withstand a massive amount of damage.
"Um, Mr Osborn... sir." Came the voice of his chief scientist. Norman turned around and stared at the uninvited guest, seeing that it was Otto Octavius, his chief scientist.
"What do you want Otto? You know if I want to see you, I'll call for you." Norman said, glaring at the other man who dared to intrude.
"M-my apologies Mr Osborn. I just wanted to let you know that we've made progress on GR-3314 and we believe human testing could be an option soon-" but he was cut off by Norman.
"Test it on me."
"Sorry?" Octavius asked, shocked.
"Don't make me repeat myself Otto. I want you to test it on me, we can't waste time, especially when our... let's just say acquaintances want a working version of the serum as soon as possible. Who better to test it on than me? I mean, I am the one financing the project." Norman said, not even bothering to thank Otto for his work.
"Sir I strongly advise-" but he was cut off by a look of anger from Norman, who's expression left no room for questioning.
"Prepare the experiment. I'll give you three hours to get everything prepared then I want it tested on me. Now go!" Shouted Norman, the harshness in his voice caused Otto to run out of the room. Norman himself also left the room and closed up the secret lab. It was at that moment his son, Harry Osborn, walked intro the room.
"Dad?" Came his son's voice. Norman rolled his eyes before turning towards Harry and meeting his gaze with his own.
"What do you want?" Norman asked, walking back over to his desk not even sparing another glance at Harry.
"Uh m-my class is here. I was just letting you know Incase you wanted to come down and-" but he was cut off by Norman who let out a loud sigh.
"Harry I care little for your school-trip. I have more important things to worry about, until your grades improve I won't take any interest in your school. Your last test had a disappointing results. I better see an improvement the next time I look at your test, now get out of my office." Said Norman simply and continuing his work.
"Yes sir..." Harry muttered. He wasn't nervous in front of people often but his father always expected the best and he was one of richest men in New York so that did make him a little nervous which was funny considering he should be used to it by how but his father didn't talk to him often and when he did it was often to remind him how much of a disappointment he was. Despite this he still tried to prove himself to him but nothing seemed to work.
Harry walked away down the corridor towards the elevator to meet up with his friends.
--
The students of Midtown high walked around Oscorp, being lead around by one of the scientists who was providing information on everything they saw.
Peter couldn't believe his eyes. He had never seen equipment like this before and the experiments they were doing here were lightyears ahead of what they did at school. He took a moment to take it all in until a voice chimed in interrupting his thought process.
"God this is so boring!" A voice said. Peter turned around and saw it was Liz Allen, another one of Flash's friends and who Peter believed was dating a guy named... Randy was it?
"I agree. Though Puny Parker seems to be loving it like the nerd that he is." Came the obnoxious voice of Flash Thompson.
"Oh come on guys," everyone turned to see it was Harry Osborn. "I mean it's better than school right?" Harry asked before walking over to Peter and saying hello.
"Well YOUR dad does own the place Osborn," came the voice of Kong. "It be surprised if you didn't love every single aspect of the place."
"Hey guys!" Everyone turned around to see none other than Mary Jane. She had fiery red hair as well as green eyes. Flash immediately put her arm around her thought MJ seemed a bit uncomfortable.
"Ohhh, Flash is making a move on your girl Pete." Harry whispered in a jokey way, chuckling.
"Come on man you know we're not-" but the scientist leading them (who's name tag read Doctor Young) cleared her throat signalling for them all to stop talking.
The group quieted down though MJ noticed a bruise on Peter's face that he gained from when Flash Thompson tripped him.
"That's a nasty bruise you got there tiger, are you alright?" Came MJ's concerned voice. Flash seemed slightly off-put by MJ talking to Parker but he made no mention of it.
"Yeah I'm fine." Peter lied. He didn't want to get in any trouble with Flash, that was the last thing he needed.
"Don't listen to him, your jackass of a boyfriend over there was the cause of it." Came Gwen's voice. Everyone turned to her wondering who she was but Flash's look of curiosity turned to one of embarrassment as MJ turned to him with a look of annoyance and anger.
"I told you to stop bullying him Flash. You promised." Came MJ's voice but Flash just remained silent and MJ turned to Peter apologising for Flash's behaviour. Flash stared at Peter with a look of anger once MJ turned around with a look that said 'you're dead' but he continued on his way.
Peter sighed. 'Well that'll come back to bite me soon' thought Peter but Gwen came up next to him.
"You shouldn't take that from. The guy's an asshole no doubt about it so why haven't you gone to a teacher or something? Asked Gwen.
"Well Flash would just kick his ass after school." But Gwen turned to him with a look of annoyance. "Err sorry. I'm Harry by the way." Putting his hand out for a handshake which Gwen returned.
"And I'm MJ." Came Mary Jane's voice who hung back with them instead of going along with Flash and his friends.
"Nice to meet both of you, I take it they're friends of yours Peter?" She said switching her gaze towards him.
"Yeah." Peter replied.
"So I take it you're new here? I mean I've seen you around a few times but I've never seen you in previous years." Harry said.
"That's right. I used to live in California before I moved to New York to be with my dad who's an officer." Came Gwen's proud voice. She seemed to look up to her dad which makes sense considering he looks out for the people.
"I'm sorry to hear about your mother... I-I lost my mother when I was just a baby so I know how you feel." MJ told her in a caring voice.
"I can relate. I lost my mother a few years ago. I promise things do get better eventually..." Harry said though his tone eyes told a different story making it look like his mother's death still affected him.
Peter stood there awkwardly. He felt for the others but he didn't really know the feeling of losing someone so close to you. He hoped nothing like that happened to him anytime soon...
Gwen smiled at them, grateful for their support. MJ decided to change the mood to something a little less depressing and decided to change the subject.
"So what do you think of New York so far?" Asked MJ, the three of them were all ears.
"It has its ups and downs. I'm loving the wrestling matches, I attend them on the weekends. I also like the school and there's much more opportunities here. I've heard it's possible to get an internship at ESU... or even the Baxter Building." Gwen said, barely able to contain her excitement.
"Well Peter, it seems you've finally found another person who shares your love of Science. Here I was thinking the day would never come." Said Harry grinning. Peter elbowed him in the arm which earned a chuckle from all four of them.
"Yeah, yeah. I also think... uh, wrestling's great too." Lied Peter. If he was being honest he didn't really know too much about it. He didn't just want to say Science was all he was interested in.
"Oh really? Well there's a wrestling match on at 7PM in a few days time. Do you want three want to come with?"
"Oh yeah, of course!" All three of them said simultaneously.
The three continued talking for a while and Peter had actually grown to really like Gwen. He was glad for there to be another person to share many of his interests.
It took a while but the tour was finally over and it was time to return back to the bus. The students started making their way out of the facility in Oscorp but Peter had noticed he left his bag back there. He was supposed to collect it again like everyone else had but it seems he had forgot.
"Umm guys I gotta head back. I left my bag back there and it has all my books so..."
"Go on ahead Peter. Get back soon though. Who knows what freaky-Friday experiments are around. Harry could probably tell you all about them." Said Gwen in a sarcastic tone.
"Hilarious," Harry said with an unamused expression. "See you soon Pete."
"Bye Peter! Remember if Flash gives you any bother again come to me-" but Peter yelled back not to tell the whole class he needed to go to Flash's girlfriend for help. The reaction earned a laugh from MJ, Gwen and Harry.
"Bye!" Peter yelled and soon they were gone and the place was replaced with nothing but silence. He walked back down to the lab to get his bag, completely unaware of the spider that had come down from the ceiling and that had landed on his arm.
Once Peter finally arrived at the lab he immediately went to get his bag. He picked it up and got ready to head out when he felt a sharp pain on his hand.
"OUCH!" Peter yelled out loud, clutching his hand and seeing that a read and black spider was on it. Panicking he flicked the spider off his hand and as it tried to run away Peter stomped on it before it could leave.
He looked down at his his soar hand noticed a big bite mark on it. He tried to ease the pain by rubbing it but anytime he touched it he felt a searing pain.
He felt himself becoming weaker and he felt like he was about to faint. He walked around saying in a low voice: "Help... someone... please..." he said in a tired voice. He wandered around, not knowing where was going until he walked right into a door, busting it open and fell to the floor. The door closed behind them and he lay there, unconscious.
--
"This better work Otto," said the voice of Norman Osborn. "I've spent too much money on this project for it to fail and if it does you can expect to be out of here in the next hour." Norman said, entering the chamber and taking his shirt off. There were other scientists helping Otto set the experiment up.
"It will work Mr Osborn. You can be sure of it." Otto often let Norman's cruel comments slide. But he would NOT allow his work to be unfairly criticised. He had decided to bring out his mechanical arms for this experiment, he needed to get use to using them more as they were still hard to use and there was definitely room for improvement.
"It better."
"We're ready Doctor Octavius." Came the voice of a scientist named Farley Sitwell. It seems everything was set up and the other eight or nine scientists in the room had also finished setting everything up.
"Alright then. Let's begin." Otto said pressing a button and releasing GR-3314 into the chamber.
Things were going well at first. However as time went on and Norman's breathing became heavier he fell to the floor and screamed, clawing at the floor. Everyone was in shock and one person rushed to the machine and was going to turn it off but Otto pushed him away using one of the mechanical arms.
"NO! Do not interrupt the experiment! He knew the risks. We must finish the experiment. If we stop now he could be in a worse condition than he would if we leave him in there." The scientists looked at each with nervous looks with some looking like they would ignore Otto. But they did as they were told, trying to block out Norman's inhumane screams. Some even had tears in their eyes hearing the man suffer.
Otto looked on in amazement as Norman grew stronger. He had done it. He'd never admit it, but he got a bit of satisfaction watch Norman scream after all the cruelty he had to endure from him over the years. He pushed those thoughts away though, knowing it was wrong to think like that.
Despite the pain, Norman's body was becoming stronger with each passing second. His muscles began to strengthen and he grew bigger. Eventually Norman gave into the pain and fainted. A few seconds later the experiment stopped and Norman lay there not moving a muscle.
All the scene twists, especially Otto who would get blamed for this looked on in shock. Otto opened the door to the chamber and ran in inspecting Norman's body and looking to see if he was alive.
"Nor-Mr Osborn sir," Otto said. He continued to look the body his mechanical arms turned him over so he could see his face. It was at that moment Norman's eyes snapped open, but they were not normal. His once blue eyes were now pure green and not just the pupils. A hand shot forward and grabbed Octavius by the throat, choking the life out of him.
Everyone looked on in both fear and confusion. Some people even screamed when the saw Norman choke Otto. Hearing the screams his eyes turned towards them. Using his newly-acquired strengths he threw Otto through the glass chamber, shattering the glass and Otto's body went flying through the air until he landed in some electrical wires. Electricity went through Otto's body, electrifying him and causing the neural interface he used to control the arms to be infused with his brain. Otto screamed in pain and some people tried to help but were knocked back by the electricity. Eventually the electrical surge stopped but Otto was unconscious and half-dead.
There were screams with a few rushing to the emergency exit. Suddenly Norman's eyes snapped towards the other scientists in the room. Blinded by rage, he rushed towards one of them with superhuman speed and punched on the unlucky scientist like a savage. He punched the man over and over again until his gave was bloody and the man was dead, his face unrecognisable from the beating he just endured.
One brave person tried tackling Osborn but Norman grabbed the man by the throat before lifting him over his head and throwing him at the wall, denting it and breaking the man's spine. All that could be hard from the man was a painful scream of agony before he slipped into unconsciousness. Norman was about to finish the job but out of nowhere, a man with mechanical wings and a black mask with green eyes that looked like a Vulture. He also had feathers around his neck. The man also was wearing armour to defend himself against any attacks.
"OSBORN!" The man screamed, soaring towards him delivering a swift punch to the face sending Norman flying into the wall.
--
Peter eyes snapped open, he groaned to himself as he got to his feet trying to keep himself stand because he felt dizzy.
"What happened?" He said, his throat hoarse as he examined the area around him. He noticed buckets of water as well as a broomstick in the corner of the room. 'Was he in a closet?' He thought to himself. All the events that happened before he fainted came back to him and he gasped, looking at the place on his hand where the spider had bit him. For a second he thought it was all a dream until he saw the bite mark still on his hand.
'That must've been why I fainted' Peter said into himself. Surprisingly the bite mark didn't hurt as much as it did before. In fact... he actually felt better than ever. Deciding to leave the closet before anyone came by he opened the door and leaked out to make sure no one was there. The coast was clear so he exited the closet and decided to leave until he heard some thing strange coming from underneath him. He listened closely and heard what sounded like... fighting? He also could swear he heard screaming.
He stood there for a second contemplating what he was going to do. If there were people in trouble down there maybe he could help? 'Pfft, what could he do?' He thought to himself. It was probably best to go home, his aunt and uncle were probably worried sick. But as the screams grew louder he stood there before making a decision. His Uncle always said to him something with power comes responsibility or something? To be honest he never really listened to that but he felt compelled to at least check it out.
He began looking for a way down before he found a door leading downstairs. He tried opening it but it was locked. 'Damn' he said to himself. He looked around to check if anyone was nearby. He breathed before looking at the door. For some reason he felt stronger. Deciding to test out his newfound strength he kicked the door and he hit it so hard the hinges flew off and the door got knocked back into the wall above the stairs before falling on to the stairs.
He couldn't believe how much damage he just did to the door. He looked down at his foot and to his surprise it wasn't soar or anything. Coming to the conclusion that this could wait he set off down the stairs before coming to a corridor. He ran through it so fast he nearly ended up running head-first into the door on the opposite end of the corridor.
Opening it he immediately saw what looked like a man dressed as some kind of Vulture fighting a ginger-haired man. He looked closer before his mouth went agape. 'Was that Harry's father?' He had only seen the man a few times when he was lucky enough to get to go the Osborn Mansion. He had seen him as a strict yet intelligent man who even complimented Peter on how well he was doing in school. He said something about how he wished his son followed his example.
Peter's thought process was interrupted as the man with the wings was punched in the face by Norman before he grabbed one of the wings and threw him into the wall. Not wasting a second Norman ran up to the man delivering a kick into his face which shot the guy's head back. For a minute Peter thought he broke the man's neck but the Vulture-like guy used his wings to fly into Norman, spearing him across the waist before slamming him into the ceiling and letting him drop to the floor.
Norman hit the floor hard but the attack did little more than piss him off. He got off the floor and rushed towards Vulture who was shocked at how easily the other man shook off the damage. Norman did a high-jump kick hitting Vulture right in the chest before punching him in the face. The attack was so hard that it caused some of the Vulture's mask to break exposing his eye. He halted daggers at Norman who tried to continue his attack but Vulture flew back and somehow two of the feathers shot towards Norman with a green streak. The man expertly dodged the first first one but the second one grazed hit him in the arm.
Norman howled in pain but Vulture did not let up. He flew towards Norman putting is feet out before slamming kicking him in the chest and the attack was so powerful to sent Norman flying into a machine, destroying it.
Peter stood there watching the brawl in horror. He saw a few other scientists had been trapped under debris likely caused by the fight between the two combatants. Peter stood there trying to decide what to do next.
A. Stay and Help.
B. Leave and run away.
