It was senior year of high school for Riley Matthews, and she was very excited about her big final high school prom. On the day before the prom, Riley walked into school with a big smile on her face. From nearby, Maya walked over to Riley and said, "How ya doing honey?" With a big grin on her face Riley said, "Great peaches. So excited about prom tomorrow. Me and Lucas already have matching outfits. It's going to be perfect." Maya nodded and said, "I know. Even though I'm still in high school, since I'm 18 now, Josh is going to come with me. Plus, with the hotel reservation..." Riley cut Maya off looking nervous as she said, "How did you know me and Lucas booked a hotel room after prom!?" Maya looking confused said, "Huh? I was talking about me and Josh. We had booked a hotel room after prom and... Wait. YOU AND LUCAS BOOKED A HOTEL ROOM!? YOU MEAN..." Riley covered Maya's mouth for a moment and pushed her towards a corner as she said, "Shh. Okay. You can't tell my parents but... yes, me and Lucas booked a hotel room. We aren't planning to do anything in there but... we both said we'll see what happens, and... Wait. YOU AND JOSH BOOKED A HOTEL ROOM TOO!?" Maya then covered Riley's mouth and said, "Shh. Okay, yes. But now that I know your secret, you can't tell mine. Besides, I think your dad will kill both of us if finds out what we're planning."
Then suddenly Riley's phone rang. Riley answered it and said, "Hello? Lucas, great to... what? Oh. Oh my. I... Okay. Well... I hope you feel better." Riley then hung up her phone as Maya said, "Everything okay?" Riley turned her head and said, "No. Lucas... he said he got really sick this morning and... he said he's certain he's not gonna be well enough for prom." A sympathetic Maya said, "Oh gosh Riley, I'm so sorry." Riley looking a bit out of sorts said, "I... I just don't know what to do now. Lucas, said I can still go to prom without him; and I wanna experience my dream prom with a good looking date, but... I also care about Lucas and wonder if I should stay at home with him."
Then Maya said, "Well if you want, I can go check in on Lucas myself and tell you how sick he really looks before you decide if you should stay with him. But if you just wanna totally bail on school and prom and stay with Lucas, I'll understand. I'll even come with you if you want. But if you still wanna go to prom with a good looking date, I'll stand in for Lucas." A surprised looking Riley said, "You would Maya? But what about Josh?" Maya then said, "Riley, you're my best friend. You gave up your first date with Lucas to help me out. I'm willing to give up my important date with Josh to help you out. Heck, I'm willing to stand aside and let Josh be your date if it helps you feel better. But only if you want to. You can stay home with Lucas, or we can both stay home with him, or I can check in on him for you to let you know if he really needs your help, or you can go to prom with me, or go with Josh as your date, or go to the prom single and just tag along with Josh and me if that's what you want." Riley then began to think of which choice she wanted to make as she said, "Well..."
