His early morning' attitude
You have to drag him out of bed
Only frosted flakes will do
He gets that from me
Yeah, he gets that from me
Elizabeth Swann-Turner dreaded looking at the calendar knowing what today was. 15th November. Five years to the day since Will, Andre, Preacher, Josey and Remy had been killed in that helicopter crash.
Five years, Sixty Months, Two Hundred and Sixty weeks, One thousand eight hundred and twenty five days, forty three thousand and eight hundred hours, and to many minutes and seconds to count since she had been told that love of her life, best friend, the father of their four children was never coming back.
Liam, Henry, Kai and Ivy all took after Will in one way or another. But the boys in particular took after Will. Especially Liam. He was alike his father. Both in looks and mannerism. Even at the young age of eleven. He took on the responsibility of being both big brother and Dad in some ways to his three siblings.
Henry was more like her. But he was still his father's son. He had both Will's and hers temper combined. More then once he had gotten into trouble over his short temper. Her sweet hearted little boy had gone after Will had died. He became withdrawn and anger at the world all the time.
He was getting better though. Coming to terms with Will's death. He had been anger and bitter about it for a long time. Which was understandable. In the short time that Will had been in their lives Both Liam and Henry had incredible close to their father.
Kai and Ivy where a different story. They had little to no memory of Will. They had only been six months old when he had died. All the knew about their father was the stories they had been told over the years.
"Mum we're going to see Dad today aren't we" Liam asked standing in the doorway of the kithen looking the spitting imagine of Will. Henry was mix of both her and Will. Kai took after Will mostly part from his blonde hair. With Ivy had Will's dark hair and dark brown eyes.
"Yes we're going to see dad today" Elizabeth shared a sad smile with her eldest two.
"Mummy. Why did god take daddy from us" Ivy asked.
"God needed daddy more then we did. He always with us. In our hearts and thought. Though he's not here with us physical but he was always be with you."Elizabeth tried to explain.
His curly hair and his knobby knees
The way the sun brings those freckles out
Talk and talk never miss a beat
Yeah, he gets that from me
He gets that from me
With breakfast done and all five of them dressed. They headed for the car for the drive to cemetery where both Will and Andre where buried. They had laid Andre to rest three days after Will. Preacher, Josey and Remy had all been buried in the week that followed that.
Morgan had never really moved on from losing Andre. Nether had Elizabeth really from losing her husband, soul mate and her best friend. The four dates she had been on in the years since Will had died. Had ended for one reason or other.
The men she had gone on those dates. Elizabeth had compared both Will and them. Two of them had gone running for the hills at the news about her four kids. The other two had been good men. But they weren't the one she wanted. The man she loved and wanted was in heaven now.
He looks at me with those big brown eyes
He's got me in the palm of his hands
And I swear sometimes
It's just like you're here again
He smiles that little crooked smile
There's no denying he's your child
Without him I don't know what I'd do
He gets that from you
Oh, he gets that from you
There where a lot of times when it felt like Will was still here. At least in the spirit of their children. Liam and Henry where determined to follow in Will's footsteps and his father before him. To enlist into the Army at sixteen. And make it into the Special Forces.
Both He and Henry where in the Army Cadets. Liam had given his grandfather's dog tags to Kai while Ivy had his St George and Christopher medals. While Will's dog tags had been given to Liam. He wore them with pride every day never taking them off.
Henry had Will's necklace he too never took them off. Father's day, birthdays and Christmas was especially hard. Remembrance Day. Both Liam and Henry would both wear Will and their grandfather's medals.
How he loves your old guitar
Yeah, he's taught himself to play
He melts my heart
Tells me he love me every day
And cracks jokes at the perfect time
Makes me laugh when I want to cry
That boy is everything to me
He gets that from you
He gets that from you
Will's cars and motorcycles sat untouched in the garage. Both Liam and Henry somehow at just eleven had taught themselves to ride Will's beloved Vincent. Elizabeth had nearly had a heart attack when she had caught them riding the old motorcycle around the drive way. Taking Kai and Ivy for rides on the back.
The only times Elizabeth smiled these days was around her children. Elizabeth felt her laughing along as Liam and Henry told some wild and funny story on the way to the cemetery. Having them hear seemed to lesson the pain she still felt all these years after losing Will.
There where times Elizabeth swore she could hear his voice. Sometimes mistaken complete strangers to be Will. At night she swore he was here with her somehow. Elizabeth didn't know how to explain it. She felt him with always
Last night I heard him pray
Lord, help me and mama make it through
And tell daddy we'll be okay
He said he sure misses you
He sure misses you
He really misses you
He gets that from me
They finally pulled into the cemetery. Morgan's car was there. She and Silas had made the trip to the cemetery to visit Andre's grave. Surprisingly Andre's family had come to his funeral. But looking back now maybe it had been better they hadn't come in the first place. All the trouble and heartache it had caused at the time.
"Aunty Lizzie" A now five year old Silas called after spotting them. Though Andre hadn't been his biological father. Andre would be the only father Silas would have and need. His other ‛father' was still in prison. That bastard Elizabeth rotted in the worst part of hell it could find.
"Hey Si."Liam and Henry greeted their cousin.
"Liam, Henry, Kai Ivy. Are you here to visit Uncle Will. Mummy and I are here to see Daddy"Silas was pretty bright for his age.
"Yeah"
"Hey how are you holding up" Elizabeth greeted her sister in law
"As well as be expected how about you"
"Time doesn't do anything heal this gaping hollow pain that's in my heart and chest since that day" Time would never heal the gaping wound in her heart.
Liam turned his attention to his father's grave which read.
Beloved Father, Son, Brother, Husband and Friend.
Major William Jonathan Turner II VC, MC
13th January 1988 to 15th November 2022.
Aged 34
Forever in our hearts
‛Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lays down life for his friends' John 15:13
"Hey Dad. It's me Liam. Henry, Kai and Ivy are here. Mum's here to she's talking to Aunty Morgan and Silas. I miss you Dad. We all do. Mum especially. Henry and I have been playing football. We not have bad. We're doing well in the Cadets. We want to follow in your footsteps. Go into the Army and do what you did" Liam placed the flowers on the grave.
"We miss you and love Daddy" Ivy said as she and Kai placed a toy soldier on Will's grave
"Hey big brother. Are you looking after Andre up there. Me and Silas are doing alright. Mum's doing alright. As are Matt, Dalton and Aeron. Nan's not so well. We had put her in the nursing home last month. Her dementia getting bad. Alex can't look after he anymore. He's health not the best either"
"Hello handsome. It's been a while since we've talked. I still feel you here with me all the time. I sometimes half expect you to walk thorough that door like nothings happened. This was all a bad dream. I swear I can hear your voice all the time. And I'm seeing you in complete strangers.
I know your still here with me and you always will. I love you my darling husband"Elizabeth touched the headstone. She swore she heard Will's voice on the wind.
