Hey There Guys, This is my first fanfic and so please dont expect good stuff, lol. Thanks to the guys on the Asushin Discord especially user SheriffJohnStone who proofread this fanfic. Its based on the Tom Clancy novels in general tone. This is a oneshot.
The crew of the USS Dallas were not stressed They were not even worried about enemies attacking after all who would dare attack the mighty UN fleet as it made its way to New Yokosuka, it's heavily skeletonized crew mostly manned the submarines recently enhanced sensors. In the sonar room, Derek Fischer sat at his console listening to his headset while reading a novel halfheartedly, listening for the telltale noises of enemy submarines and torpedoes. He was accompanied by a man from the UN who lazed around and smoked cigarettes as he, too, waited for something to happen. The UN officer was there in case one of Them attacked. The console beeped, snapping both out of their boredom induced stupor. The USS Dallas's 20-year-old computer system started the process of identifying the noise it detected with Petty Officer Fischer doing the same thing but with his mind.
"Sounds weird, Kinda like a whale, but not exactly ;It's a heck of a lot louder", he muttered. The computer also appeared to come to similar conclusions.
"How far away are we from the animal?", the UN officer enquired sternly with a slight accent to his English.
"About 10 kilometers south, and the is moving in its direction", Fischer replied, "but it's too loud the only that can make that sorta noise is a blue whale and those are extinct".
A sudden flash of fear was visible on the face of the UN officer, "Petty Officer Fischer, stay at your station and keep listening".
"Yes, Sir" replied Fischer.
The UN officer a Norwegian named Nils Olof, knew exactly what the noise was and calmy made his way to the captain. "Captain Mancuso, I need to speak to you".
A bespectacled man stood with his XO in the control room. "Alright, Lieutenant Olof, what is it?", Mancuso asked impatiently as he adjusted his glasses.
"Sir, I request that we extend the Phased Array, Fischer heard a class 1 on hydrophone and the computer seems to agree".
A shadow passed across Mancuso's face, for he knew what the UN officer meant through his obtuse bureaucratese. He turned to his XO, "lower speed to 4 knots and raise the antenna. Walden ascend to periscope depth and Jones establish an uplink to the NERV satellite.
The Commanding Officer surveyed the room looking at the men and women before him, who eagerly followed orders not knowing that this was likely their last engagement.
"Antenna in position".
"Sir Satellite, uplink is successful".
The commander picked up the receiver and dialled the Admiral. "What is it?", an older voice asked, "Sir, we might have a Green Omicron situation".
"What! those things only attack Tokyo 3", the admiral shouted in indignation.
"Admiral, it may be a whale, we haven't obtained a blue pattern yet".
"Hmm, Alright, let me know if it turns blue".
The captain set his receiver down. Mancuso keyed the intercom and selected the sonar room. "Fischer put the sonar and your UN friend's antenna on the main screen". He turned to Jones, "Go to the torpedo room and stay on standby".
Jones stood up from his station, and he headed to the bow of the sub. The screen flashed on, and the sonar contact was marked on the depth-coloured map on screen alongside a pattern analysis, which displayed yellow. "Kumar, what's the status of the object?".
"Currently stationary sir, at 10000 metres and at a depth of 600 metres", he barked his voice clearly displaying his anxiety.
"Pattern is shifting to orange sir", Walden announced her voice not displaying her anxiety.
"Object is now in motion sir, with a speed of 20 knots, 9000m and closing sir". Rakesh announced from his monitor, the red light of the room making his sweat streaked face appear bloodied.
"Object is now accelerating sir, now at 50 knots and gaining speed sir".
"Sir Pattern now Blue", Walden replied in a soft monotone.
"Let the Admiral and NERV Know about it", Mancuso turned to the weapons officer, "McClintock, can we lock on the target?".
"Yes sir, we can",
"Lock on to the object".
Affirmative sir, McClintock replied with an eagerness to fire live weapons clear in her voice.
"Sir, the object has changed its course, current vector indicates that it's on a collision course for the Over the Rainbow, wait! its gonna go right through us", Rakesh yelled.
Mancuso had to get his crew out of this creature way, "Increase speed to 33 knots now and angle dive planes for ascent". The display suddenly flashed, and the object seemed to move at an unnatural speed, at least 60 knots. The captain now had very little time to save his ship. "McClintock, fire torpedoes, And I want immediate emergency blow". The Submarine now at its top speed a speed which put its reactor at strain as it squeezed every watt of power it could produce, the captains' orders vented out every drop of water the subs ballast tanks held, forcing it to the surface, rapidly ascending.
The creature saw the Long Dark Beast in front of it, it saw the glow that emanated from its heart, The Glow, The Glow was good, the glow gave power the glow was needed, the glow was necessary, the glow was good. Then the Beast spat darts at it, the beast seemed to ascend quickly, no matter the glow would be obtained, The GLOW. The Darts Slammed against the creature's body, the light of its soul protected it well, the beast was almost at the surface, its abdomen was rich with the glow, its heart beating beautifully. Yes now it would be his.
The beast reached the surface it head breaking through the waves, sending froth and mist everywhere. The creature bit down into the Beasts Glowing abdomen, it screamed its tough hide rending, it seized the glow, it ate it gulping it down the creature felt the glow enter his stomach and it filled and contented him. He Left the best alone now, the glow was gone, there was nothing to eat it was now dead.
Mancuso winced at the salty spray in his face, He stared around at his men in the dinghy, The skeleton crew of the Dallas, some of whom were trapped within the ship's engineering sector and in the reactor room. They were dead now. The angel had torn off the stern of his boat, sending his sub slowly into to the depths. Now he could see the bow above the waves, which were crashing against it, the dive planes formed a strange cross, and with a great hiss the bow sank into the depths.
