A spin on the tale from the imagination of a six-year old...

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Goldilocks took a walk in the deep dark wood. Suddenly, she saw an enchanted castle with a little bridge leading to the open entrance. It was so magical and Goldilocks walked over the little bridge, seeing shimmering fish in the little stream beneath, and went up to the door.

So many rooms! Goldilocks went right in and wandered about, but to her dismay each room was nearly empty, save for some hay or twigs lying on the floor. Still she went on to the topmost level and there she finally found a room that was not empty. There was a large and heavy table, so big that Goldilocks could not see the top, and there were three chairs.

She climbed onto the first chair and seating herself down on it she saw a bowl of potion before her, red and bubbling away. As soon as her hands touched the bowl the chair started to creak and groan. Suddenly, the chair grew taller and taller, going up through a window in the roof that Goldilocks did not notice before. It was too tall! Goldilocks saw birds flying about her as the chair grew ever higher, then the clouds flew by, so close that she could have touched them if she were not so scared. Colder and colder it got, still the chair grew, until Goldilocks could see the sky above darken to black, full of a million stars, and then finally it stopped.

"I'm nearly in space!" shivered Goldilocks fearfully, thinking of a way to get down. After a moment she realized that she was still clutching the bowl tightly and she had an idea. "It's better than doing nothing and being stuck here forever." She thought, and closing her eyes, brought the bowl to her lips and drank. It was too hot! Goldilocks dropped the bowl in shock as heat filled her body. She shut her eyes tightly, feeling as though she was surrounded by fire.

Several moments she sat like that until she could hear birds around her again. Surprised, she opened her eyes and saw that the chair was shrinking, she could already see the rooftop below her growing nearer. But to her shock, she also realized that she was red, and covered in feathers. No, not covered in feathers, she was a bird! A great red toucan with fire on the tips of its feathers. The chair brought her back into the castle, but still she was a fire-toucan.

Seeing the second chair next to her, she hopped onto it, and there was what she was looking for – another big bowl of potion, this one blue, frost smoke gently rising from it. "This has to work!" she thought, and wrapping her wing around the bowl, she carefully pulled it towards her. But while she was picking up the bowl so carefully, she didn't realize that the chair was now getting shorter and shorter. It was too short! It went down through the floor, into the rooms below and further down through a trapdoor, into the ground. There was a great big hole, and around her goldilocks could see moles and rabbits scurrying around. Further down it went, past fossils and gemstones until it finally stopped above a cavern full of lava.

"Is this the earth's core?" she wondered, and looked around. Nothing could she see but the ground around her and the molten lava below, making it unbearable hot. Knowing what she had to do, she brought the potion to her beak as carefully as she could and took a sip. It was too cold! The bowl slipped from her wings as and went crashing down into the magma as she shivered with an icy chill. Oh! She did not have wings anymore, nor hands for that matter. Her hands and legs shrunk away as the chair began its journey back to the castle. She rapidly turned into a blue snake, with scales of gleaming sapphire and lapis lazuli.

As soon as the chair brought her back to the magical room, she slithered onto the third and final chair, and before her was a golden potion on the great table. Wrapping her body around it, she licked the potion with her forked tongue and as she watched, her own body began to return. There she was, a little girl again. She danced on the table, laughing with joy, until she felt quite hungry. "This chair was just right," she thought, "And this bowl was just right too." She finished the whole bowl greedily – it tasted like honeyed porridge – and gave a big burp.

"Excuse me", she said to the empty room and yawned. Suddenly, she saw three beds that she had not seen before. Even though she knew she shouldn't, she was drawn to the beds and hopped onto the first one. It was too hard! And suddenly, Goldilocks realized she was turning to stone. She tried to move, but her limbs were quickly stiffening, turning her into a statue. She managed to turn her body, and rolled off the bed, landing on the next bed. It was too soft! And the heavy statue-Goldilocks fell deeply into it. Now her body began to change, getting more and more translucent, this bed was turning her into a cotton candy girl. Feeling like an overstuffed teddy bear, she jumped onto the last bed, and to her relief, she turned back into a little girl again. She was so exhausted; she fell asleep instantly.

As she dozed, three brown bears returned to the castle, papa bear, mama bear and baby bear. They saw that their chairs and potions had been disturbed and soon found Goldilocks dozing in baby bear's bed. Gleefully, they put on their napkins, grabbed their forks and knives and quickly gobbled her up.

Late in the evening as the bears lay dozing on the floor, a cunning white cat slipped into the castle. She knew about the bears and their tricks and guessed what had happened. The white cat took out a great white knife and quickly cut the bears open while they slept. He meowed a spell and magic wove around the room as Goldilocks became quite whole again.

"Oh my! Thank you little cat!" she said gratefully. The white cat hissed her to silence, and set her to find a needle and some sturdy thread. By the time Goldilocks returned with the needle and thread, the cat had stuffed the sleeping bears up. Papa bear's belly was full of rocks, Mama bear's belly was filled with butterflies and baby bear with candies. While the cat watched, Goldilocks quickly stitched the bellies closed, and following the cat made her way out of the castle.

"Thank you, thank you little cat!" she petted his fluffy white head as they sat far from the castle in a little glade, "Please be my friend forever". "Meow", said the cat and rubbed her leg. Goldilocks picked up the cat, kissed his nose and started to head back home… and they lived happily ever after.
