Chapter One – Day of Calm Meets Storm

A normal day was a normal day in the entire sense of the word, there was nothing that made me remember this day and I would have forgotten every moment of it if only it wasn't for him. I was sitting in the park, with my book and my hair down. The wind blowing through my hair was enough to make me smile sometimes even giggle if it was playful enough. My blue hair flowed through the wind, carried across my face and blocking a couple words from my book.

"Whatcha reading there?" A smooth voice interrupted my train of thought. I barely looked up to answer the question content with trying to find my place.

"Twilight," I spoke turning the page. The voice chuckled before continuing, the person feeling so comfortable with my presence that they grabbed a strand of my hair and gently pulled it. This somewhat forced me to turn and look up at the person interrupting my piece and quiet. The hair the same colour as mine caught my attention but what my eyes focused on were the dark brown eyes so dark that they could have been mistaken for the richest of blacks. A toned man, muscle covered his body but not so much he was a fitness junkie. In a word, attractive but the charisma in his eyes was certainly attention drawing.

"Bit different book for a women like you, isn't it?" He spoke with a small smirk within his voice, but his question just awoke a feeling of rage within me. I shut my book with a thump and sighed through my nose. I waited a few seconds to decide what I would say in response.

"And what per say, is a women like me?" I deadpanned, staring into his eyes daring for the challenge. The man just smiled in response and curled the strand of hair around his finger. He pulled it towards himself, making me lean more towards him.

"Deadly." He spoke strongly, with a dark look in his eyes. I looked his body up and down with a smile on my lips. I tilted my head as I raised a hand to stroke his chin.

"And how'd you know bout deadly?" I smirked before patting his cheek and getting up. The man just dropped his weight into the grassy hill. I leaned down to grab my bag, but he grabbed my wrist forcing my eyes to his once more.

"Can I interest you in a drink?" He asked, a finger stroking the inside of my wrist. I twisted my lips before smiling at him, turning my hand around to grab his.

"Sure mister, but I get to pick the place." I cheekily smiled making the blue haired man smile himself. Before I knew it, we were at one of the best restaurants in Brookfield Heights, The Butchery on Main. Sitting across from the man didn't dispel how attractive he was but he didn't seem to carry himself in a way which he cared about his appearance. He wasn't dirty but he didn't put a massive amount of effort into his appearance, just a simple sweater and jeans for comfort and his hair hanging down to touch his shoulders.

"So, you manage to charm me into having a drink with you, what would you like?" I asked pulling the menu up to cover my mouth to at least try and hide my smile. He did the same but rather stared at me directly over the menu ignoring the waitress who was waiting for our order.

"Hmm, I'll stick with the good ol' American vanilla milkshake." He said with a childish smile to the waitress placing his menu down with a gentle thud on the table. I smiled at the waitress and spoke with a smile.

"I'll have a caramel milkshake please," I smiled while the waitress took our menus with a smile and promise that our drinks wouldn't be long.

"So, good ol' American milkshake huh?" I smiled cheekily, putting my fingers together. He just smiled widely and raised his hands up high and wide.

"Yeah! American greats are well the best as we have the greatest country in the world!" He spoke proudly, his arms coming onto the table and hands touching mine. "Would you agree?" He asked me seriously, making me shrug.

"I'm proud of my home and my country but if you're asking if I care about politics then not really," I shrugged, making him stare at me in silence.

"What? Why not?!" He said somewhat frustratingly, him grabbing my hands tightly and slightly pulling me across the table.

"Because politics has never treated me or my family well or at least I think so..." I said somewhat sadly, making his eyes look at me differently and his grip slightly loosen.

"What do you mean by that exactly?" He asked now just seemingly curious by me.

"Well, my father is on the town's council, but it doesn't seem to do much for me or really anyone." I spoke plainly, starting to fiddle with my fingers and by extension his. With his questioning look I expanded on my thoughts. "I mean, I haven't seen any changes happen around here. There are crimes still, holes on the road, people are ignorant when they can say someone else is in charge of their life even if the people responsible don't actually do anything." With every word I spoke, his eyes lit up in agreement.

"Yes... Finally!" He spoke loudly, tightening his fingers on my wandering fingertips. I looked at him questioning his words, making him explain his words. "No one else in this god forsaken town has the thoughts you and I have; you are absolutely right. People crave comfort but they need fear to grow. Without fear nothing would change, therefore people unconsciously crave fear," He spoke almost poetically. His words hooked my attention, no one in this small little town had the same thoughts as I did. It was why I sat alone every day, why I found my job in the tiny bookstore at the end of town which almost no one ever travelled to and why my very political family, extremely disappointed in my very anti-politic views.

"Thank God, I am not the only here with a brain." I smiled at him, this time warmly which he returned just as warmly. "Well, I'm not sure I'd like political views to be the only thing we actually agree on... I'm sorry but I don't actually know your name yet." I spoke with the questioning tone at the end of my question. He smiled charmingly, raising my hand to his mouth, and placing a rather warm and long kiss on my knuckles without removing his eyes from mine.

"The names Kai Anderson doll, pleasure to meet you." He smiled, not moving his gaze. I smiled back at him, a dark glint in my eyes unknown to me appeared to him.

"Well Kai, I won't complain at all that I met you today. I have a feeling about you but I'm not sure what kind," I winked at him before continuing, " I'm Rayvn."
