A/N:As if I don't already have enough projects currently in progress, I decided to write this one shot based on a review on my story Joint Effort (prompt will be posted below). I do have another multi chapter Heartland story in progress, but I decided to wait to post it until I finished one of my other stories (inspiration for the last chap of my Chicago PD fic, come to me please).
This will be a collection of One-Shots, with each chapter being it's own individual one shot. So, I will let you get to reading, enjoy!
Prompt by Guest: Amy Fleming and Lyndy Borden are the Heart of the show now. So a story of Amy training Lyndy at the jumping course that Ty built for Amy is season one would be pretty special.
Takes place 3-4 years after season 14.
Jump Like Georgie
Amy and Jack returned to the ranch house after doing night check, exhausted from their busy day. The Bartlett family's morning and afternoon had been spent watching Georgie compete in a elite show jumping competition. She ended up winning, so the family all gathered at a restaurant for a celebratory steak dinner. They had arrived home near dark, leaving Amy and Jack little time to do chores.
She made her way to Lyndy and Katie's shared room where the girls were supposed to be getting ready for bed. When she entered the room, she found that while the girls were in their pj's, they were not in fact in bed but rather playing on the floor. As Amy entered even further into the room, she found that the girls had assembled quite the impressive show jumping arena with their toy horse set. Lyndy was galloping a plastic pony around the ring and over the jumps. When she made it around the miniature ring, she and Katie both cheered and Amy couldn't help but let our a chuckle.
"Mommy, we made a show jumping ring like Georgie competes in!" Lyndy exclaimed when she noticed her mother's presence.
"I see that," Amy replied. "I am impressed, but it is time for bed girls."
"Okay," They both sighed and they each climbed into their beds.
"Mommy, I want to jump horses like Georgie," Lyndy told Amy as Amy tucked her in bed.
"We will have to see what we can do about that," Amy responded to her daughter with a smile. She told the girls good night and turned off the light before exiting the room.
"Did they go to bed easy?" Lisa, who was sitting in a chair in the living room amongst the other members of the family, asked as Amy exited the hallway.
"Yeah, pretty easy," Amy answered. "They had quite the elaborate show jumping ring built with their horse toys."
"You should get Lyndy a jumping pony," Georgie, who was sitting on the couch with Quinn's arm around her, stated.
"She told me she wanted to 'jump horses like Georgie.'"
"Well, you'll have to inform her that you were quite the show jumper once upon a time," Georgie replied.
"Surely it wouldn't be too hard to find her a jumping pony," Lisa stated.
"Would you happen to know anyone with one for sale?" Amy asked Lisa.
"I don't, Quinn do you?"
"Not off the top of my head, no. But I could look into it if you want me to," Quinn answered.
"It's alright, I'll look for one myself," Amy replied. "I'm going to bed, good night everyone," She added before disappearing down the hall into her own bedroom. The pulled out her computer and searched for a horse sale website. She looked under the jumper ponies advertisements for prospective ponies for Lyndy.
As she scrolled through advertisement after advertisement, a flashy buckskin pony caught her eye. She clicked on his ad and studied his write up and information.
"Augustus, known around the barn as Gus, is a 12 year old Welsh Pony gelding. He was previously used as a lesson horse for our stable's jumping program. Gus is as sweet as could be and wouldn't hurt a fly. He would be perfect for your beginner show or hunter jumper," The write up read. His information sealed the deal, Amy called the number listed on his information and sorted out all the purchase details, she would pick him up in Calgary the next morning.
The next morning, Amy woke up earlier than usual. The only other person awake was her Grandpa Jack.
"What're you doing up this early?" He asked as he sipped his cup of coffee.
"I'm meeting a lady in Calgary to pick up a jumping pony for Lyndy," She answered as she tugged her boots on.
"That was quick," He smarted off.
"This seems like something Lyndy is really interested in."
"Are you sure? Little kids like Lyndy are fascinated in whatever is around them, tomorrow it could be barrel racing that she is interested in."
"I know I haven't done it in a while, and now it is really Georgie's thing, but show jumping is special to me. Mom coached me for a long time, and after she passed, Ty coached me for a little while. Remember that jumping course he built me in the back pasture?"
"I do," Jack replied.
"I'd love to show Lyndy that, maybe even let her jump on it eventually. And if her interest change, that's fine too, but I want to give her the opportunity to enjoy show jumping like I did and now Georgie is."
"Go get that girl her pony then," Jack responded.
"Can you keep it a secret for her though? I want it to be a surprise," Amy requested.
"I can do that," Jack promised as Amy hurried out the door.
A few hours later, she pulled under the Heartland gate with her blue truck pulling the Heartland trailer, a special new member of the ranch inside. As she pulled up to the barn, she found Lou with Lyndy watching Quinn and Georgie's jumping practice. As she exited the truck and approached the ring, she saw the amazement and fascination in her daughter's eyes and knew her purchase would be worth it.
"Mommy, Georgie is so good at jumping!" Lyndy exclaimed once Amy reached the fence. Everyone, including Georgie, who pulled Phoenix to a stop by the fence, chuckled.
"You know Lyndy, once upon a time your mom was a very talented show jumper," Georgie told her younger cousin as she dismounted Phoenix. "And she introduced me to the sport and taught me just about everything I know."
"You rode jumping horses mommy?" Lyndy asked her mother.
"I did," Amy answered.
"We will have to find some pictures to show you," Lou added. "What's in the trailer?" She asked, already knowing the answer.
"A surprise for Lyndy," Amy replied with a grin. "Do you want to see what it is?"
"Yes!" The young girl exclaimed. Amy led Lyndy to the trailer and opened the door to reveal the buckskin pony.
"A pony!" Lyndy squealed as Amy led Gus out of the trailer.
"A special kind of pony, your very own jumping pony," Amy told her. "His name is Gus," She added as Lyndy petted the soft, golden hair of her new pony.
"Why don't you lead him to the barn and we can saddle him and have your first ever jumping lesson," Amy suggested. Beaming, Lyndy led the pony into the barn where Amy helped fit him with the proper equipment. She grabbed a helmet and strapped it on Lyndy's head and together they led Gus back out to the ring.
Georgie had already lowered the jumps to a beginner level, so everything was ready for Lyndy's jumping lesson. She helped her daughter into the saddle and led her around to get used to the new horse. Once Any thought Gus and Lyndy were ready, she led the pony up to and over the jump. Lyndy squealed with excitement as they cleared the tiny jump.
"This is so fun Mommy!" She exclaimed as they headed towards yet another jump. They spent the next hour or so going over jumps on the course, and Lyndy was enjoying every second of it.
Later that night, Lou presented Lyndy with a photo album filled with photos from Amy's time as an aspiring show jumper. Lyndy looked through the photos of Amy as a young girl riding various horses in show jumping events.
"Mommy, is that Spartan?" Lyndy asked when she came across of photo of her mother on a black gelding.
"That is," Amy answered, taking a closer look at the photo from her fall finale win. Lyndy then pointed to a man in the background.
"Is that daddy?" Her question was like a punch to Amy's gut, and it hurt. It had been years since she had seen this photo, and it had also been a few years since she lost her husband, but the pain was still there.
"Yes, that is your dad. He coached me for a little while, like how Quinn is coaching Georgie," Amy replied.
Six Months Later
A few months later, Lyndy and Gus had been practicing nearly every day and the young girl was making leaps and bounds in the sport of show jumping. Today Amy decided Lyndy was ready to do something special, something she had been dreaming of her daughter doing since purchasing Gus.
Amy was riding Shadow while Lyndy was on Gus. Amy had ahold of a lead rope attached to Gus's halter. She guided Shadow and led Gus through pasture after pasture of trees and cattle.
"Mommy, why are we taking Gus on a trail ride? You said Gus was just a jumping pony, not a trail pony."
"It's a surprise, just be patient and you will see," Amy answered.
"Am I going to like this surprise?" Lyndy asked.
"I really hope so," Amy replied. They went through one last cluster of trees and into a clearing where there was an old course made of tree limbs and hay bales.
"What is this?" Lyndy curiously asked.
"A jumping course," Amy excitedly answered as she dismounted from Shadow. "Your dad built it for me when I was training Spartan for a show and didn't have my own jumping ring. Do you want to try it with Gus?" A while back she had cleaned and fixed up the course, as well as modified a few of the jumps in preparation for this day. Lyndy nodded, though slightly intimidating by the unusual looking jumps.
"You can do it, I believe in you," Amy reassured her. "Do you want me to lead you over one first?" Lyndy nodded, so Amy grabbed onto Gus's lead and led the to and over the jump. Lyndy's face lit up with excitement and enjoyment. Amy took off the lead and watched as her daughter took on the course her late husband had made for her so long ago. Seeing her daughter enjoy something she had once enjoyed gave her a sort of happiness and fulfillment, and she knew Ty was proudly watching from somewhere up above.
So there it is! I hope you all enjoyed it, and a special thanks to that reviewer who inspired this! If there is something you would like to see in this series of one shots, leave me a prompt in a PM or review, any and all characters and ships are welcome!
