Corinne could no longer keep quiet about Josh to Danny - the guilt was eating her alive. She feels guilty for a lot of things but this one is at the forefront of her mind. So, before they could have a quickie, she blew out a breath and stared at him in dead silence. He cracked a smile and stared right back. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
She couldn't help but tear up. "Fuck. You're going to hate me for this, I know it." How could he not?
"Hate you for what?" a confused Danny asked.
She cried it out for a few seconds, waving off a concerned Danny, and then pulled herself together. "Josh isn't Adam's son - he's yours, Danny."
A pregnant pause as Danny stared at her in stunned silence. He had suspected, had done the math immediately after all, but Sarah had convinced him that Josh wasn't his son. "He's mine?" he finally asked after a long, awkward two minutes.
"Yeah." She winced and waited for him to storm out but it never happened. Once Corinne established he wasn't going anywhere, she stared at him out of the corner of her eye and then waved a hand in front of him. "Did I break you?"
"Maybe. I have a son. Holy fuck." Danny's mind was running in circles - he had blue screened, to put it bluntly. "Does Sarah know?"
She shook her head. "She bought my lie that Adam was the father."
"What about Adam?"
"I think he's always suspected but he loves that little boy like he's his own. He's a damn good dad, the only one Josh has ever known." She was nowhere near ready to break the news to her husband and son.
"It's okay because we'll figure it out. And I don't want to take Josh away from Adam - I'm not here to come between them."
She was in awe of this man, despite the fact that they were both cheating on their significant others. So they were both shitty people - Corinne had accepted that a while back. "I love you," she blurted out.
Danny's eyes widened in shock. "I love you too." He laughed and pulled her closer to him, trying to ignore the guilt pulsating throughout his system. He completely understood why she hadn't told him the truth right away and didn't blame her for keeping it a secret.
"Good to know, I guess."
"Oh you guess, huh?" Fuck, he had a kid. He had already vowed to himself to do better with Adam than his parents had. Then something occurred to Danny. "Can I tell Sarah?"
"You want to shock the hell out of her?" Corinne deduced.
"Yes, I do."
"Fine, you can tell her. But she's going to be pissed at me, and I don't even blame her."
"She'll understand," Danny assured Corinne. He considered it for a second. "Eventually, at least," he conceded.
"How long do you think that eventually will last?"
"She'll probably give you the silent treatment for a while." Danny couldn't wait to see Josh again, now that he knew for a fact that the little boy was his.
Corinne and Danny had a lot of issues to work through and it'd take time but they were determined to iron out all their problems and do what was best for Josh - he was their priority. And Danny finally admitted to himself that he needed to see a therapist so he could get help to deal with all that unprocessed trauma. They'd figure their shit out for their son's sake and go from there.
