Hi!
So, last year I wrote a one-shot for Halloween and this is kind of a really short story briefly showing what happened after that one-shot but you don't need to read last year's one-shot to understand this one if you don't want to.
Also, no I haven't forgotten about my multi chapter fics that need updating, I promise they're not abandoned (I would never do that to you XD) I'm just taking my time writing them, which I know is annoying but I don't want to rush them.
Happy Halloween, if you celebrate it, if you don't, have a nice day anyway! :)
Enjoy!
"Hey, Fontaine! " Jess said as the call connected.
Fontaine was sat in her secret room, which had been decorated for Halloween for almost two weeks. Somehow, she had found a skeleton poster in one of the Aronnax's many rooms (she had no idea where it had come from but if she had to guess, she would say Ant had gotten it from somewhere) and had stuck it to one of the walls with some artificial cobwebs draped over it. She wasn't entirely sure where the cobwebs had come from either but she didn't really mind, they added to the atmosphere. In the same room, she had also found a polystyrene spider (which rather looked like it had survived the destruction of Lemuria, since three of its legs were hanging on by barely a thread and one of them was missing) and despite its worn appearance, she had propped it on a small ledge around the edge of the room.
She had carved two pumpkins (which had been delivered by Professor Fiction via drone) and was currently using the light of the two candles inside them to see, adding to the general ambiance of the room. As well as the pumpkins, Professor Fiction had sent them a lot of chocolate and lollipops, as well as a huge bag of gummy bears, which Fontaine had taken and tossed into the vents before her brother could reach them.
Currently, Fontaine was several handfuls into the bag of gummy bears and she had just video called Jess to see how her Halloween party was going.
Fontaine, as well as all the other Nektons, had been invited but it had turned out that the Aronnax was going to be halfway across the world at the time of the party and so they had sadly been forced to refuse the offer, with the promise they would meet up soon.
However, that had not stopped Jess from insisting that her and Fontaine video call at the time of the party so her submarine-dwelling best friend could be there in virtual form.
"Hi, Jess! How's the party?" Fontaine replied, "Amazing costume by the way!"
Jess was dressed as a zombie, the look even complete with fake blood and latex wounds.
Fontaine hadn't really taken the time to get a proper costume but she had decorated her secret room for spooky season and where she currently sat, the polystyrene-based spider with one, slightly detached eye was looming over her shoulder, which she supposed created a slightly spooky effect on the video.
"It's brilliant!" Jess replied, " would be a lot better if you were here though, "
"I know, I wish we could be there too but we just couldn't avoid going on this trip, Mum needs to see someone who she knows from the WOA, something about a type of shark they've been studying I think," Fontaine said, " but don't worry, we should be near you soon in the next few weeks so we can catch up then, in person, "
"Looking forward to it, although I may have to hide out from Ant, unless his unhealthy obsession with me has lessened since last time?" Jess asked, hopefully .
"Unfortunately not, but don't worry, I have places we can hide out in that Ant has no idea about," Fontaine responded before taking another handful of gummy bears.
"Speaking of which, you still need to show me that secret room that you made, I hope you haven't forgotten that I am well overdue my tour!" Jess exclaimed as she too began eating.
"You can have your tour when you next come to visit, don't worry, I haven't forgotten," Fontaine laughed, "and while I give you the grand tour, you can enjoy the magic of an Ant-free world,"
"That sounds like paradise!" Jess commented.
"It is, it really is," Fontaine chuckled as Jess began laughing with her.
"Alright so, tell me more about this party," Fontaine continued when the laughter subsided.
"Where do I begin?" Jess started.
Fontaine grinned as Jess began telling her story, grateful that even though they were many miles apart, Jess was still her amazing friend that she could talk to whenever she needed to.
I hope you enjoyed this pretty short one-shot, I feel like Halloween one-shots are going to become a yearly tradition XD.
I really love the dynamic of Fontaine and Jess's friendship, I imagine it must be kind of difficult to keep friendships when you're constantly travelling the world and you literally live in the ocean.
I am in the stages of planning a short multi chapter fic which will have a lot of Jess and Fontaine's friendship (and a bit/a lot of Ant being awkward around Jess) however it most likely won't be posted until I've finished the whole thing, regardless of whether I decide on making it multi chapter or a one-shot.
Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in reading and I might finally get the motivation to write it properly.
Thanks you so much for reading, please review, I'd love to know what you think!
Kiwi :)
