DISCLAIMER: I don't own Charlotte or any of the characters in this piece of Fanfiction
Well to anyone who made the poor decision of following my account or if you're one of the very very few people interested in a fanfic for an anime that came out 6 years ago Welcome.
I watched Charlotte recently while I had nothing better to do and I completely fell in love with it. I love literally everything about it and it's easily a 10/10 for me. That being said if you haven't watched it I would highly recommend it. It's available on Crunchyroll (at least in the UK don't know about other regions) if you can bare through the pain that is Crunchyroll ads.
But anyway this piece is set roughly 2 years after the shows end. So obviously spoilers so if you intend to watch the show leave now before it's ruined by my dreadful writing. Should also mention it's Tomori X Yuu because I'm a sucker for a wholesome ship and not a whole lot happened between them in the show despite them definitely having a good setup and getting along well.

It was a beautiful spring day, the birds were singing, the sun was shining in the beautiful clear blue sky and here Yuu Otosaka was sitting being lectured about fashion advice for a date with his girlfriend by his little sister.
"NO NO NO NO NO! You can't wear that!" She remarked clearly frustrated by her brother's lack of concern for his appearance.
"Ayumi like I said it's not that impor-"He tried to reason only to be cut off by her frantic screaming of denial.
"NO! Nao always dresses and looks cute the least you could do is dress half decently!" She tried to reason.
However the plea fell on deaf ears as Yuu seemed just as stubborn about his clothing as he was earlier when Ayumi first brought up the topic that morning. "Nao won't care what I'm wearing and she probably won't notice anyway."
"How do you know?" She asked still frustrated at her brothers obstinacy.
"She just won't. If she cared about it how I looked that much she wouldn't have bothered with me when I came back with my this scar." He stated still seeming somewhat uncomfortable with the subject of his injury.
Although it had been two years since he was injured while trying to rescue Nao and Kumagami he had never regained sight in his eye and the large scar remained although he could now at least open it.
"I-It looks fine you don't even notice and it even looks kinda cool. You're like a brave knight or hero or something and that's your battle-scar." She nervously tried to reassure her brother.
He could easily tell that it was somewhat unsettling to his younger sister. She clearly even now had trouble grasping what her brother had been through. Nobody could. The world where Ayumi died no longer existed however his pain and the horror of those events still lingered and would manifest in nightmares after which Yuu would simply stay awake and watch his sister sleep. It was probably not the most normal thing and it definitely didn't help make him seem like less of a siscon but just seeing her breathing seemed to always put him at ease.
He was at first overwhelmed when these memories started returning to him, however he had gradually come to accept them. But he was still afraid and had yet to tell anyone about the return of his memories. He feared that he wasn't the person he used to be and that he would have expectations placed upon him based off who he used to be. He couldn't simply switch back to how he used to be. The him that made friends in his time in the student council and that Nao had promised to become the lover of seemed like a completely different person. That was what scared him the most. He could never shake the feeling that they saw him as a different person as well and only remained with him out of pity for him.
"Hey what's with this box?" His thoughts were interrupted by his sister's innocent question.
Yuu rushed in and quickly swiped the box from her hands before she could see its contents. "No-Nothing. Not important. Completely irrelevant." He frantically explained hoping to avoid any embarrassment.
He was fortunate enough that his sister hadn't changed much and she was still rather naive. Most people would see the small square box and quickly connect the dots. However Ayumi still seemed puzzled to what the box's contents were.
"Hmmm. If it's not important let me see it." She reasoned
However her brother seemed determined to avoid any further questioning. "Well I should go so I don't keep Nao waiting." He deadpanned.
He was almost out the door when Ayumi appeared behind him. "What is it I need to go?"
"Jeez! You almost forget the most important part." She remarked like it was obvious what she was talking about.
Gathering up the courage to ask he squeaked out. "Which is?"
She grinned up at him which unsettled him further as he was sure at this point even Ayumi had caught on." I packed lunch for you and Nao!"
Or maybe she hadn't.
"Umm thanks what is it today?" He said breathing a sigh of relief.
"Omelette ri-"
"Ah never mind we'll just get something at a cafe. Bye Ayumi!" He spurted out and quickly stepped out the door.
He was barely 3 metres outside the door when he bumped into someone sending them both tumbling to the ground.
"Ugh sorry are you oka-." He stopped now realising he had just fallen and was hovering over Nao their faces mere inches from one another's.
"Good morn-" He started only to be cut off as his girlfriend's knee found itself to his groin.
He rolled off of her and then started writhing in discomfort after being struck in the crotch.
"Sorry I didn't see you there." She deadpanned her voice dripping heavy with sarcasm.
"Yuuuuuuuuu." Oh great just when he thought he had been through the worst of it his sister had returned lunch in hand that was guaranteed to be dripping with that dreaded pizza sauce.
Ah well at least he could expect some sympathy from his sister about how he was lying in pain on the floor just outside their aprartme-
"Nao are you okay?" Or not.
She picked herself up off the ground and dusted off her clothes. "I'm fine your brother was just a bit too eager for our date." She remarked obviously finding the situation amusing.
"He has been acting weird today. He was really defensive and then he didn't even want the food I cooked." She said clearly somewhat offended by his rejection of her offer of lunch.
"He didn't eat breakfast?" Nao questioned somewhat worried about her boyfriend.
"Oh no. He didn't want the lunch I made for you two." Ayumi clarified which seemed to ease Nao.
"Hmm. What did you make?" Nao inquired.
"The Otosaka secret family recipe for Omelette rice." Ayumi said with pride and a beaming smile on her face.
"Oh sorry Ayumi there was this cafe I really wanted to go to for lunch." Nao said much to Yuu's delight as he would now be spared by having to consume the dreaded pizza sauce. He supposed he was lucky for as temperamental and violent she could be his girlfriend had always pulled through for him when it counted.
He began picking himself up off the ground and got to his feet only to be met by her face inches from his with a wicked grin on it. "Of course he can always have it for dinner after he comes back." She amended clearly finding amusement in the mental image of her boyfriend forcing down dinner.
"Right! I'll go put it in the fridge now. I'll see you later have fun!" She said skipping back to the apartment seemingly overjoyed that her effort in cooking the omelette wouldn't be wasted.
"You know I don't think many guys find it cute when their girlfriends hit them." Yuu remarked bluntly at this point somewhat tired of his girlfriend's tendency towards violence.
"Well maybe you're just a masochist and that's why you're so madly in with love me." She remarked with a smug smile.
Yuu could think of plenty of good reasons why he loved her. She was cute, dependable, faithful and cared deeply for others. Yuu assumed her caring nature for others extended to him however if it did it was very very rarely shown. Then again maybe he just didn't notice. She used to spend a lot of time invisible to people after all.
"That's definitely not one of the reasons!" He said a light blush on his face.
She grinned like a cat upon hearing this. "Hmmmm. One of the reasons?"
Dammit
He had just dug himself into a very big hole." That's not important. And who said I was madly in love with you?"
"I mean I always assumed somewhere between you travelling the entire world to become my lover and you saying that little phrase book was the good luck charm that kept you going that it was in there." She said still grinning.
The one eyed reaper who was once likely the most powerful being on the planet now could do nothing to stop his cheeks from reddening further.
He'd have to concede defeat for now.
Turning in the direction of the elevator to hide his blush he murmured something and then gestured for them to leave.

The promise of lunch in a cafe had meant Yuu wouldn't have to deal with the glares he and his girlfriend typically received when she decided to open a train station bento that would make the entire train carriage smell of whatever she was in the mood for on that particular day. He supposed it never bothered her given she still probably saw herself as somewhat invisible.
So it probably didn't occur to her just how much attention she could draw. Mainly male attention. In a way it made him proud to be Nao's boyfriend. He imagined most guys would be if their girlfriend's were this cute. Of course he would never say this aloud unless he wanted to be subjected to his girlfriend's teasing and that devilish grin of hers.
However on occasion he would overhear the usual lines. "Why is she with him?" " Doesn't she seem out of his league?" He did feel somewhat self conscious of this. Sure he had been told he looked handsome (even Nao had admitted it) but he now possessed a large facial scar that definitely wasn't doing him any favours. However anytime she overheard these types of questions she would slide her hand in his and look up at his face with a smile on her face and a glint in her eye that seemed to say more than any words of consolation could. Yeah she was definitely cute but she was so much more than that he thought.
Today though especially those looks didn't bother him as they made their way to the cafe. He wouldn't let anything ruin this day. He would make this a day for him and Nao to remember forever.
"Yuuuuuuuu" He heard his girlfriend drone. Finally breaking free of his thoughts to realise she had been trying to get his attention.
"Ah! Sorry Nao something wrong?" He apologised hoping he hadn't soured her cheerful mood from earlier.
"We're here." She deadpanned before pointing to the door of the cafe they had been going to.
"Ah right well let's go" He replied praying to god he hadn't done something that would annoy her.
They entered the cafe and ordered and then fell into a comfortable silence. Nao was gazing out the window while he admired her peaceful face.
At least it was peaceful until she found him staring at her.
"What? Is something wrong?" She questioned somewhat aggravated by her boyfriends actions.
"Huh? Er no I was just er... looking at you." He squeaked out praying that she had heard his explanation and that she wouldn't start her relentless teasing.
"Hmm well I suppose it can't be helped given how cute I am." She said with a smug smile.
At least she wasn't mad.
"We should probably hurry and eat this so we can get to the concert early." Yuu stated.
"Yeah wouldn't want to be late to our first ZHIEND concert. Especially given brother's band is supporting them." She said with pride evident from her brother's recovery and his success with his music.
"I need to remember to thank Kazuki again for the tickets."He reminded himself.
"You already have. At least 50 times. Anymore and you'll start to get on his nerves." She deadpanned clearly unenthused about what she had described as her boyfriend being a "kiss-ass."
He didn't bother with a retort. Sure maybe he had been a bit of a suck up but he wanted to be accepted by her brother. He was the only family she really had so it wouldn't be good if they were on bad terms. He had also a lot more to thank him for than just the tickets. His advice on Nao had been invaluable.
They had finished there food and were about to leave when Nao looked at her watch.
"You not think we're a bit early?" She questioned.
"Don't you want that phone case?" He inquired with a shrug.
"How did you know about those?" She replied with an inquisitive look.
Oh crap. He had been planning on telling Nao about his regained memories which would explain how he knew about the phone case but the timing was all wrong. He blinked and avoided looking at her.
He would have to explain himself.
"Nao I-" he said preparing for her wrath.
"Did you want one as well?" She said with a beaming smile and great enthusiasm.
"Huh? Oh yeah they looked really useful. But you don't mind that we'll be matching right?" He said trying to tease he a little.
"Hmph. You're my boyfriend nothing wrong with it." She said somewhat bashfully.
He smiled and took her hand and walked to the concert venue.
--
It was now around 6pm. The concert was over and the pair were walking back to the train station to the backdrop of the setting sun.
To say the mood was perfect would be an understatement.
'Now or never' Yuu thought.
Now he just had to try to bring up the topic.
"That was a nice graduation present from your brother." He stated with a smile.
"Yep." She replied quickly seeming somewhat tense.
"What are you planning to do now that we've graduated? You said you wanted to be a doctor when you were young?" He asked.
"Mmm. Yeah. Although I don't think I want to anymore. Between you and Kazuki I'm kinda sick of hospitals at this point." She replied softly.
"Maybe I'll be a photographer or study film." She pondered aloud.
"What about you?" She asked while turning around and cocking her head to the side.
"Probably just some office job." He replied not entirely enthusiastic about the idea. "We can't all be filmmakers or pop idols." He grinned.
"Suppose. Yusa is continuing her music career and Takajo is helping her out. I think he wants to try be her manager or something to that effect." She said.
"Are they close?" He asked somewhat confused as to the relationship between Yusarin and her biggest fan.
"Hmm I guess they're kinda going out? They're definitely close and the seem kinda committed I think. Happened when you were away now I think about it can't fault you for not knowing." She explained. "Don't worry we're still the best couple in the Student Council!" She grinned.
A chance.
"Hey Nao I don't want this kind of relationship anymore I want us to-" He said soon realising as the words left his mouth how bad they sounded.
And he wasn't the only one as he soon took the second hit to the groin if that day courtesy of his temperamental girlfriend cutting him off from further explaining. He fell to his hands and knees and gasped for a breath. He looked up to see his girlfriend shaking her hands clenched into fists at her sides.
"I should of expected this after all you don't remember why you even love me do you?" She said while trying to hold back her sobs.
This was definitely not what he was hoping for.
"Wait I can-"
"Nothing. All the time we spent together you can't remember a thing." She interrupted.
It hurt. No. He couldn't let his temper beat him no matter how much her words hurt him.
"Nao I-"
"Nao this Nao that. You never even called me Nao before you left. Of course you don't remember that. You don't remember anything. And I know it and I'm the idiot that is still in love with you despite everything. But why should you care about a promise you can't remember?" She was obviously angry at this point and she wasn't the only one.
Yuu could take a lot but his fears had been realised.
He wasn't who he used to be.
His anger was about to erupt.
He glared up at her." What about you why do you care huh? Why do you even love me?" He roared.
"Oh I forgot you don't even remember you saved my life. Go ahead laugh I'm an idiot who fell in love with you after you saved me when I was kidnapped. That was when I realised I loved you." She managed through her sobs.
She was an idiot.
Just like him.
She realised she was in love after he saved her life from the foreign ability users.
He realised he was in love after she saved him from his depression over Ayumi's death.
They were a couple of idiots.
It was laughable.
And so he laughed.
"Hahaha you really are an idiot. But then I guess that makes us both idiots after all you saved my life after Ayumi died." She looked down on him with hope in her eyes. Hope that he remembered everything. And he wasn't about to disappoint. "That's when I realised I love you."
The noise of their laughter and sobs were gone all that remained was the sound of silence.
"You remember." It wasn't a question it was a statement. It was hard to tell how she felt when she said. She sounded emotionless like it still hadn't set in.
"Yeah" He was unsure of what to say. The conversation could go anywhere yet the tense silence still remained.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I was worried that I couldn't be who I used to be." He said breaking the silence.
"I don't think you changed as much as you think." She proclaimed with a beaming smile.
"Whew I was really worried that I did something wrong but-" He was cut off again as his girlfriend stomped on his hand in the ground.
"Owwwww What was that for?" He grunted holding his hand in pain.
"You still haven't explained what you meant when you said we should break up." She said with a scowl.
"I didn't mean it like that." He explained.
"What did you mean then?" She inquired.
"I uh I meant-" He stumbled before being interrupted
"I can't hear you from down there"she said gesturing to his spot on the ground he had yet to leave. She said clearly frustrated.
"What I meant was um er we could-"He stuttered before realising this was perfect.
He got down on one knee.
Reached into his back pocket.
Pulled out that little box Ayumi had pestered him about and flipped it open.
He could hear her gasp as the small silver band with a Sapphire gleamed in the setting sun.
"Nao T-Tomori will you marry me?"
The silence was deafening.
Until it was broken by a small sob.
And another.
And another.
And another.
He looked up to see his girlfriend in tears furiously wiping tears from her face.
"Please don't cry I'm sorry I'll never bother you again so please stop crying." He had realised it was over now at least he could be dignified in the end.
"Impossible!" She cried
"Huh?" He moved her hands to see her wobbly smile and it all connected.
Tears of joy.
It wasn't the first time he'd misunderstood the reason for her tears.
"Don't expect me to become some perfect housewife. Ok? I'm not that sorta girl." She spoke through her tears.
"I know." He said while picking himself off the ground.
Eventually they calmed down Yuu slipped the ring in her finger and they locked their hands together and walked in comfortable silence to the train.
However it was clear that he was nervous so the silence didn't last.
"So um is that a yes?" He asked sheepishly while rubbing his neck
"Hmm I wonder Nao Otosaka doesn't sound bad. Having Ayumi as a sister would also be great." She pondered aloud.
"The whole being married to me thing doesn't rank up there?" He questioned.
"I was saving the best for last." Said stated. "Although as I said I'm not really wife material. I'm not really good at cooking and I'm quite violent so I hope you're not expecting you're typical housewife."
"As I said I don't really mind your temper and you're actually quite a good cook." He said.
"When have I ever cooked for you?"
"You made omelette rice that one time it tasted just like Ayumi's."
"Oh that's right since I'm an Otosaka I'll learn the recipe for pizza sauce." She grinned like a cat.
"Huh? You don't need to bother it's really not that nice."
"It's fine I'll make it every day for you Darling." She said while trying to suppress her blush.
"It's really fine really I only liked it as a kid."
"Well I'm sure our kids will love it too."
As soon as the words out of her mouth her face turned the same colour as the Otosaka's infamous pizza sauce.
"You.. I... Don't get any weird ideas o-okay?"
"Yep I'll do er that." He said his face now sporting the same redness as his fiancée.
And so the pair continued on there way the red hues of the setting sun perfectly hiding their blushing faces.

Well that's that. Definitely took me far too long towrite this but ah well it's done now. Now how do I feel about it? I was very pleased with the start however I feel itkinda got a lot worse near the end and I'm quite happy I could kinda fix it because I felt weird. I imagine it still feels weird given the characters are very out of character and I kinda tried too hard to tie everything with a nice bow like Takajo and Yusa and Tomori's Brother. And I definitely tried to push the word count too high and my grammar is probably dreadful.
I was definitely a bit lazy especially with not writing the concert although I can't Imagine how you would write people listening to music and make it interesting.
I was quite happy with the title as originally I had no clue what to make it. So I just kinda ripped off the last episode's title. Speaking of which I went back and rewatched the scene in the last episode where Yuu wakes up because I thought it would help me with this but all it did was make me cry. I'm and emotional person deal with it. So after crying and listening to Kimi No Moji I had a single thing I decided to put in which was trying to make Tomori and Yuu's lines from that last scene of the show to resemblethe one when he proposed in this less than amazing piece of writing.
Another thing that was weird to approach was naming. I used Tomori's first name Nao for most of this but now that I think about it I barely remember anyone calling her it in the show. At one point Yuu hears it and acknowledges that it's her first name in his mind but aside from that I don't remember it getting used much. But I thought it would be weird if he called his girlfriend by her last name.
The next thing I write is probably going to be a toradora Oneshot because multi chapters are effort although I have an idea for a few multi chapter fics.
