Naruto belongs to Masashi Kishimoto

Sasuke munched on his onigiri staring at the overview of the village. The school day had been boring so far. The young boy just wished to get class over with so he could return home to his brother.

The wind blew through his hair a bit as the Uchiha began to feel someone's gaze on him. He quickly turned to glance at one of his classmates, a girl with pink hair and a green doe eyes, staring at him from the higher terrace.

The girl promptly turned red and hastily scurries away into the crowds of other children.

...

Sakura jumped to the occasion when it was her turn to present. "I'm Haruno Sakura, the thing I like is...Well, the person I like is...Umm, should I say my dream for the future?" The girl squealed for a moment while her new sensei sweatdropped. The girl's face scrunched up, "The thing I dislike is Naruto!" She exclaimed, making the mentioned boy start to wail.

The pinkette didn't skip a beat at her new teammate's cries and went on to peek at Sasuke. Her cheeks turned rosy as she drawled, "My hobby is..." The boy sitting on the step above them continued to stare straight ahead, but his ears began to take on a pinkish color as well.

Kakashi, beginning to get bored of the girl's interests, took the focus, "OK!" Their heads turned towards the copy-cat nin who began to tell them about their duties as genin.

The Uchiha listened intently, but his eyes glanced over to the right. He didn't know much about Sakura other than she was one of his self-deemed fangirls, like many of the girls in their Academy class. Sasuke remembered she was pretty smart, rivalling him and the Nara in academics, but he didn't recall her having much skill in battle. Other than that, she was pretty bold in her advances, that sometimes he couldn't help but react. Having her and the idiot as teammates will be a giant pain.

...

Sasuke's whole body throbbed with pain, but he couldn't make a show of it otherwise Sakura could coddle him. After their battle with Haku and Zabuza, the lone girl in Team 7 had been playing caretaker for the other members. They all had different responses to her concern. Naruto was overjoyed with the attention, not letting any time with Sakura be put to waste. Kakashi was thankful, and made sure to let her know, but for the most part he was focused on getting back to Konoha.

Sakura, in Sasuke's opinion, was too worried. She kept sending not-so-secret glances towards him. Normally, he would brush these off because they meant she was just sneaking looks, but these were different. When she looked away before, there was always a rosy blush on her round cheeks, now her face stayed as porcelain as china and her eyes held something that he couldn't tell made him annoyed or mad.

...

With the chunin exams finally over, Team 7 thought things would cool done, but it seemed fate had lots in store for each of them. The group were meeting up on the rooftop of a building shortly after the Third Hokage's funeral. Naruto was trying to convince Kakashi that he could do Chidori even though the Uzumaki had never trained and probably didn't even have a lightning chakra nature. The copycat ninja still watched on not too amused. A bit off from them were Sasuke and Sakura looking on from a distance.

Sakura thought this was a good time as any to thank her teammate, "Sasuke-kun, thank you for saving me from the grip of the sand." The boy looked begrudged and muttered, "..no". The pinkette's confusion showed clear on her face. Normally, he wasn't one to deny praise. "What?" Sasuke stared off at the blond for a moment then explained, "The one who saved you was Naruto." Disbelief sprouted in the young girl's mind, "No way. You're just being modest. Sure, Naruto is getting stronger, but that sand guy..." The Uchiha quickly shut her down, "It's the truth." Her teammate continued as she gazed in amazement at the jinchuurki, "To save you, that guy risked death. Up until now, you haven't really seen him, so you haven't seen his strength either."

Sakura looked down in slight shame, then turned towards the Uzumaki who was trying to summon a chidori in his palm. The girl smiled affectionately with appreciative eyes, no longer paying attention to the boy next to her, whose gaze couldn't move from her expression.

...

Her cherry blossom hair fluttered in the chill breeze, brushing against her tear soaked cheeks. She felt his breath on her nape, but couldn't seem to move. Everything was going too quickly. He can't possibly leave, she thought in denial, but knew that he was a bit too far from her reach, despite them being so close. Suddenly, the tempo of things slowed when she heard him, "Sakura... thank you."

The girl's body crumpled before he caught her, promptly carrying her toward a nearby bench. Sasuke gently laid Sakura on there, trying to stay detached from the situation. There was no way the Uchiha couldn't leave with this opportunity in his grasp, but to say he wasn't affected leaving everything behind would be a lie.

He allowed a small glance at Sakura, then continued his way outside the village that was no longer his home.
