Fooled Around and Fell In Love

Part of him knew there was no such thing as a meaningless fling when it comes to Jackie Burkhart.

The second his lips touched hers on that summer day, he knew things would never be the same again. How could they be? He had just kissed his best friend's ex, who also happened to be the girl he's been crushing on for almost a whole year, and it was amazing. Perfect, even.

She tasted so sweet, and so… homey. She tasted like home. Kissing her felt like coming home after a long, shitty day at work; it felt incredible, and he could keep on kissing her for the rest of his life without a problem.

He knew he was screwed, he knew that he probably would never be able to give her up, not after being with her.

But he was still surprised when he almost blurted the three magical words to her.

It was stupid, really. They weren't doing anything special, they were just watching TV together in the basement like they always do on their Saturdays. Forman and Donna were being mushy somewhere else, Fez and Kelso were cruising for chicks, and they had the basement for themselves. He had his arm wrapped around her, and she was resting her head on his shoulder, obviously a little worn out from all the sex they had in the afternoon.

Every now and then, she would make a bitchy comment about someone's outfit, and he'd roll his eyes at her shallowness. After that, he'd tighten his grip on her and comfortably rest his head on top of hers, silently letting her know that even though he thinks that some of her comments are shallow, he listened, and he'd always listen to her, because he knew she'd been ignored for far too long. By Kelso, by her parents, and by their friends. She deserves to be listened to.

She'd then smile and press a gentle kiss to his neck, wrapping her arms around his waist and closing her eyes, enjoying the feeling of having him so close.

Then he would feel her body relaxing against his, and he knew that she was getting sleepy.

She knew too, but she'd try to delay going home as much as she could, because this felt too good, and she didn't want to trade the warmth of his arms by the cold sheets from her bed, not for now.

He knew what she was doing, but he wouldn't say anything because he felt the same way.

They'd delay the inevitable for an hour or two, until they could hear the noises of Kitty and Red preparing to go to bed upstairs. That's when they would break out of their little bubble and he'd drive her home.

They would share a few lazy kisses inside his El Camino until he had 10 minutes left of his curfew, and they'd be forced to let go of each other so they could go home. He'd kiss her goodbye, and she'd left. His car would've stayed in front of her house until he could see her bedroom light turning on, and then he would drive back to the Forman's.

That's been their routine for a while now, it's been that way since they went public, and it was good. The days where he'd rather spend his Saturdays going to parties and cruising for chicks were long gone, and he was more than happy with his and Jackie's current routine.

Today though, after they shared their goodbye kiss, he almost told her he loves her.

His lips were still tingling from their kiss, and she was giving him that smile, that beautiful smile that always makes him do dumb shit, and he almost said it.

He could tell that she noticed that he stopped himself from saying something, but for the first time in her life, she didn't push him. Instead, she kissed him one last time, said that she enjoyed their day and that she couldn't wait to see him tomorrow before leaving the car and entering her house.

He was frozen for a while, wondering what kind of "Formany" demon possessed his mind. He couldn't say those words, he had only said them about five times before in his life, three of them being to Mrs. Forman. He doesn't like to think about the other two times.

He and Jackie had been dating publicly for two months, everything was still new and people were still getting used to seeing them together. Hell, he had just gotten used to being in a relationship with her, he had no business telling her he's in love with her, not for now.

He broke out of his daze when he saw her bedroom light turning on, and drove back to the Forman's, lost in his own thoughts.

This wasn't supposed to happen, he wasn't supposed to love her. Steven Hyde doesn't love chicks, and everyone knows that.

But again, he also knew what he was getting into when he kissed her. He knew that things were going to change, and he didn't care, because he got to be with her, and nothing else mattered back then.

And now that he's thinking about it...

He's in love with Jackie Burkhart, and he's not just in love with her. No, he's in deep, he's desperately, hopelessly in love with her, and it's never going away. He just knows that, and there's nothing he can do about it.

He's not telling her, not for now, not so soon, but he's going to tell her one day. He's going to gather his guts and tell her that he loves her, and hopefully, she's going to say it back, and things are going to be alright.

He couldn't help but smile slightly at that thought.

The End

A/N: This is just a silly little one-shot I wrote today. I was inspired by an ask Kim1918 sent me on tumblr and Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell In Love" song. It's a dope song, that literally screams Hyde, you guys should listen to it if you haven't already.

I think this is the first time I write a story without any actual dialogue. It's pretty different from the things I have written before, so let me know what you thought about it in the reviews! Thanks for reading!
