Chapter 1
So It Begins
Joy was dying, simple as that. After an ambush and brief fight, she was burned irreversibly by a dying Shadowman. In retaliation, Sadness fatally injured Shadowman, stabbing him in the chest with a nearby broken lamp post. Now with both of them on their death beds, a miracle is found in Shadowman's dying words. Looking at the group with nothing but malice, he uttered the words: "If you want to save her *cough cough* Go to my lair and find a syringe labeled Mirakuru. *spits up blood* But I warn you, you don't know what you're dealing with. You wish to save her *ACK* but you should be careful *gurgle* what you wish for. I shall see you in hell." With that, Shadowman took his last breath. Afterward, they all huddled around each other to discuss their plan. Unknownst to them, Shadowman's body had disappeared.
"Shadowman is an entity of pure evil. What could he possibly gain from saving Joy?" Asked Fear.
Sadness responded immediately: "What choice do we have Fear? We have to try." After a brief argument, they agreed to give this Mirakuru a shot.
Now on a hunt for the so-called Mirakuru, Sadness is led to Riley's subconscious. This is where Shadowman's Lair was. When Sadness arrived, it felt like she walked into an industrial freezer. All the blood in her body ran cold. Pure fear was quite literally tasteable in the lair. Somehow, it was filled to the brim with artifacts from Riley's entire life. They ranged from her first t-shirt to her first tooth that came out to the band-aid used to treat her first cut. After 15 minutes of fruitless looking, ripping open draws, and opening chests, she found a rather ancient-looking box, complete with a broken chain wrapped around it. Gravitating towards it, she popped it open and, lo and behold, found exactly what she was looking for.
"Haha, here it is!" She proclaimed. "The Mirakuru. I finally found it." Sadness sighed, knowing what she had to do. Picking herself up, she began the long journey back to the Emotion Headquarters. The journey was filled with contemplation and many difficult thoughts. Chief among them was the thought: 'What is this stuff going to do to Joy. Can it truly save her? Or is it a trick by Shadowman to corrupt Joy and turn her against us?' She repeatedly asked herself this question until she finally set foot in the headquarters, just managing to catch the train of thought on its last run. So rushing to Joy's room where they had laid Joy in her bed, she burst in holding the Mirakuru up high like she just won the lottery. Anger, Fear, and Disgust cheered so loudly you might have mistaken it for the crowd at the Super Bowl or The World Series. After a long and heavy pause, Sadness finally said: "I don't know what this will do to Joy, but all we know is that it can save her." "As long as we get Joy back, I'm game." Anger agreed. Disgust and Fear merely nodded. So Sadness, with much trepidation, injected the miracle substance into Joy. After a brief moment, it looked like they had failed. Suddenly, Joy started convulsing and screaming. Blood was pouring from her eyes. After a single minute of pure agony, Joy collapsed and stopped breathing. Sadness, shocked and scared, jumped up and started shaking Joy violently, begging for her to wake up. "Please, come on! PLEASE! PLEASE WAKE UP JOY! GET THE FUCK UP JOY!" Sadness screamed and begged but it didn't work. Finally, after another brief pause, Joy inhaled a deep breath and started to breathe once again. "Oh thank god." Disgust was the first to talk after Sadness's outburst and Joy's reawakening. They felt the most relief they had ever felt before. But this was just the beginning of this emotional joyride.
