Cape Name: The Charmed One, Heka, The Captain, Admiral.

Taylor Annulus Hebert was the son of Daniel Martin Hebert and Annette Rose Hebert nee Kent.

Daniel was the son of a captain of a fishing trawler fleet and he and his family lived in the house that Daniel's grandfather had built. When Great Grandma and Grandpa Hebert had first built the house they had imagined a great future for Brockton's shipping industry and the growth of a large family. But time saw illness limit it to just Grandpa and then in the 90s and 2000s the rise of the Endbringers and the fall of Brockton but the Hebert house was still the largest and sturdiest house in the Burrough of Bellhaven Down by the Docks. A large stone monstrosity it was built by the same crew that had built the old fruit storage houses in the warehouse district at the turn of the 18th century. Four stories tall with two subbasements and a coal cellar for the furnace-cum-boiler that heated the house and provided all the hot water they could ever need. The Heberts while not strictly wealthy were an old name with a long history and powerful connections. When Danny started working for the Union after his father's fleet was lost to Leviathen that influence only grew. Enough money had been saved up for a moderate investment slash hobby and so Danny and Annette had bought the old dry dock repair yard and the salvage rights to a handful of ships. When Taylor was 10 he and Daniel would get one of the wrecks an old steam tugboat and pull it into the dry dock.

Two years, another boat and the help of several of Danny's oldest and dearest friends in the dock workers had seen the old tug and an old trawler pulled apart and rebuilt around an original frame a boat near to 130 feet long with all the power and fine control of a tug with the seaworthiness and hold capacity of a trawler. Powered by a steam engine and two powerful Diesel engines for auxiliary and emergency power with comfortable yacht like crew and guest accommodations with a wheel house laid out like the bridge of the starship enterprise with an old Capstains wheel as pride of place it was all set for it maiden voyage through the boat graveyard and out to sea when disaster struck. Daniel disappeared one day without a trace.

Taylor Hebert was tall for a boy of 13 at nearly six foot he towered over other boys and with his slender waifish build narrow face and long hair looked more like a flat chested 16 year old girl or a tolkienesque elf than most other 13 year old boys. But most 13 year olds didn't contract out on local fishing vessels during summer and winter breaks.

'Dad has been missing for a three months.' Taylor thought as he worked below decks packing gutted cod in ice for storage in the hold. He worked smoothly and with great efficiency as his let his absolute awareness guide his hands and reflexes to better pack and preserve the catch. After he finished here he would swab the deck near the loading bay and then report to Ole Ben and Captain Michaels. Michigan Michaels was captain of the Lauraine one of only a handful of small privately owned trawlers that plied the waters near Brockton. Together with about five other ships they met the needs of Brockton and a few neighboring towns.

Ole Ben was the first mate and Taylor's mentor and shipboard guardian. Most would think Captain Michaels was mad, taking a 13 year old kid out on a fishing vessel in the middle of December during squall season no less. But Michaels had been a friend of Danny Hebert and had trusted him with his life as a friend and his livelihood as a member of the Dock Workers Association, and his boy was shaping up to be the same. They had been out to sea for three weeks and were scheduled to get back two days before Christmas with the largest catch he had brought in, in ten years. Times had been tough ever since the Endbringers had reared their ugly heads but the upside was that with fewer ships on the waters and less competition a ship could ply the nearby coastal waters and still get a sizable catch.

But Michaels had also had a feeling. He wasn't a superstitious man. He didn't put much stock into signs, and omens. But he had broken his left elbow about four years back and ever since then it would ache something terrible when a storm rolled in.

So he had had Ole Ben up in the wheelhouse listening to the radio and keeping a weather eye out.

"What's the scuttlebutt?" Michaels asked as he came up from below decks. He had just gone to shower and change after the latest net haul having left the Hebert boy and his other two deckhands to stow it away.

Ole Ben, wasn't called Ole for nothing. At seventy eight, he was the oldest man on the ship, and on a bad day could still work circles around most of his crew mates. Chin length grizzled white hair and close cropped beard framed a long face that was tanned and chapped by sun and wind. A long crooked nose that twisted to the right dominated his face with kind, grey eyes glinting from deep sockets framed by a collection of wrinkles that etched the corners of his eyes and trailed down his cheekbones into his beard. He cast a long dark look at Michigan and said, "Doesn't look good Capt'n. Their calling for thirty foot swells, wind in excess of 104 knots, rain, hail, the works. Got the makings of another perfect storm scenario like what came off Leviathen's attack on Nova Scotia."

Michaels grimaced and grabbed the radio mike.

Taylor, John and Jackson had just finished packing away the catch when The radio intercom speaker crackled to life and Michaels' said, "All hands secure the deck equipment and holds. There's a storm coming in. It's gonna get rough, it'll get nasty. And then it'll get mean. If it moves make sure it can't. We don't need anything shifting while we navigate a squall."

With a explosion of motion Taylor and the other two men secured the fish hold and moved to the deck where they meet up with Johanna, a mountain of a woman with arms as big as Taylors whole body and shoulders three feet wide. She had a square jaw and harsh cheekbones making her look rather intimidating. But she wore her gold spun hair in a braid that brushed her hips and was as thick as his fist at the base and was still an inch thick at the end where it was tied off with a hair band. With just those features she would have been a handsome woman but with breasts the size of large watermelons and hands large enough to palm a basketball with little effort everyone knew she was a woman and a tough one at that. And as ships mechanic not some one you wanted to make mad.

She shot a glare at Jackson and John and said, "Quit yer gawkin' and hop too! Secure the forward section, the Boy and I can handle the midships!"

With ducked heads and a slur about 'the uppity dike' they moved to do as told.

Once the two had gone Johanna relaxed and smirked at Taylor, "Get to boy, I know your da taught ya yer way around a ship. Let's get the top side secured then yeh can get below and clean up. After that Michaels wants ya on the bridge with Ole Ben."

"Yes, Johanna." Taylor answered and turned to start securing the port trawler rig when Johanna called out and said, "Hey Taylor!"

Taylor turned and received an eye full of Johanna Donzing's massive mammaries and toned chest and abdomen. Blushing bright red Taylor swiftly averted his eyes as Johanna laughed and said, "Feast yer eyes laddie! Maybe I'll give yeh an early Yule gift, if ya continue to work hard, and blush so pretty for me!"

With his ears burning, Taylor took off towards the port tackle and secured it.

After securing the port side midships, Taylor rejoined Johanna and together with Jackson secured the stern and then they all went below to secure the holds and spare equipment.

Once everything from stem to stern had been secured. Taylor made his way to the head and after getting cleaned up and dressed warmly and dry he headed to the galley for a bowl of rich stew and bread. Having satisfied his hunger, taylor made his way up to the bridge and took up station at a booth in the back.
