"Takemitchy, do you hate me? Why must you leave?"
Takemichi, the omega in question, was sitting on the floor packing his bags. It was almost time for him to go and his husband's woes were rolling off his back. His pleas would not be reached.
He paused when he felt a thump behind him and the noise of his husband shuffling on the carpet toward him. He took a moment to collect himself. He didn't want to be dragged back into this mess.
He kept his face down toward his suitcase as he saw his husband's feet make its way to the other side.
"Do you hate me?"
Far from it he thought.
"Just stay here. You'd be safer. I can watch over you. I'm the best person for the job."
Doubt it.
He paused at the blankets. The place he was going should have enough, but as a nesting omega, a smell of something familiar might help him on his journey.
"Please answer me."
Takemichi looked up, finally. His Alpha's face looked so stricken with grief. They tried to do things his way before, but nothing was ever enough for him. The omega was tired of debating this life changing decision. He needed outside help. He needed more.
"Mikey." Finally speaking up. The omega has been keeping quiet all morning. Preparing his bag. Accepting the affection from Mikey but with a distant air about him.
"Yes?" Mikey was aching for his omega. He wanted him to stay so much. He controlled the underworld with an iron fist, but this pretty omega kept him grounded and sane. What would he do when he left?
"Give me your hoodie."
Mikey was wearing his favorite hoodie that he loved to be scented by his Alpha. That was all he needed now. Something to hold him over until things settled down.
"That's all you have to say to me? What about how I feel?" Mikey dug his fingers into the carpet. He felt his heart was breaking.
"Please Alpha." One thing Takemichi loved about being with Mikey is that few words spoke volumes. A head tilt there, an arm brush here, the word Alpha in any context.
He watched Mikey smile a bit. His instincts overriding his emotions to please the omega in front of him.
Mikey clearly didn't want to give the hoodie, but his body seemed to ignore him. His hands were shaking as he gripped the edge of the hoodie. Slowly pulling it over his head. His white tanks slowly being exposed inch by inch. With one last tug, it popped over his head.
Mikey brushed his hair back out of his face as he looked at the hoodie in his hand. This hoodie was a symbol of his love and soon it would be out of his sight. He wanted to burn it, but…
He looked back up at Takemichi, the omega's hand reaching out to take the article of clothing.
For a moment he thought of tossing it over Takemichi's head. If the omega wanted it so much, why not make him work for it. He was often petty at work. Rarely petty with Takemichi because he knew being in his presence was enough. He always felt like their time together would never last, that they would always be together. If he gave up this hoodie, when would he see him again?
A whimper caught his attention. The omega tired easily these days and holding his hand out to take the hoodie was probably annoying him.
Good . Mikey thought. But….shit...pretty Omegas shouldn't have to deal with petty Alphas. Fuck! He clenched the hoodie in his hand one more time before tossing over to Takemichi.
Takemichi was happy. Pulling the hoodie closer he sniffed it and basked in its presence. Rubbing his face in the fabric for a bit before placing it in his suitcase with the rest.
Takemichi sighed and closed his suitcase. Chifuyu should already be outside. He groaned as he stood up. Massaging his lower back so moment, he walked to the bedroom door. Looking at Mikey one more time he said.
"I'll call you." Then left.
Mikey felt grief strike his body in a hot way. He needed someone. He called his friends.
"Why are you here?" Said Mikey to Keisuke.
They were all lounging in the basement of his home. They ordered food and Keisuke was the last one to show up.
"Because I'm in the group chat, you fucking idiot."
Mitsuya chuckled next to Pah, as they played Mario Karts on the couch.
Kazutora was staring at Mikey. He looked like a feral cat looking for a fight, he doubted Mikey would raise a hand to any of them, but with what's been going on in his home lately, anything was possible.
"You're married to the enemy."
Draken had a full out laugh at that. Some of his beer spilling out of his mouth when it turned into a coughing fit. Kazutora patted his back.
"That omega you're married to gave mine all types of ideas." He said with a sullen voice. The beer can in his hand sat half full as he flung himself backwards in his recliner.
"About having a safe birth? About taking all of the precautions needed so that big headed child that your mate is carry is safely delivered." Keisuke countered. He threw his legs over Drake's lap. Taking a bite out of the pizza in his hand. Looking at his boss gets stupider and stupider.
"He could have had a home birth. I wanted to be next to him." He groaned.
"Chifuyu is a highly educated doula, you asshole. Don't diss my mate." He hissed. Licking the sauce off his fingers.
"But Alpha's aren't allowed in the birthing ward. I'll have to wait until it's time for him to come home. I could be dead by then." He sat up. Eyes dark "What if he dies during birth? Without me around? We're supposed to die together."
He looked at Draken. "Burn the hospital down if that happens. I'll go in and lay across Takemichi's dead body as you light the place up.
"Do I get custody of your dogs if that happens?" Said Draken. Massaging Keisuke's feet on his lap. He had his head leaned back over the couch. Kazutora had his head on his shoulder as he scrolled through Instagram.
He was in charge of branding for some of their legal businesses.
"Yeah, except Tofu, he goes to Mitsuya."
"Yes. Tofu does love me best." Mitsuya cheered and cheered again when he knocked Pah out with the turtle shell.
"As long as my mate is not in there. Burn it down. Chifuyu deserves his own practice, not deflecting sexual harassment for being a pretty doctor." Said Keisuke.
"Then why does he still work there?" Asked Kazutora.
"Something about the hospital not being able to afford good doctors, that he really feels appreciated there since he doesn't need the money."
"I guess, I can understand that." Said Mikey. Sipping more of his beer before remembering Chifuyu is the enemy. Pretty people shouldn't hang. They get ideas and shit. Fuck him and Takemichi for being good friends.
He groaned. Tossing the empty can on the floor. He heard a yip. Looking down, he saw his Pomeranian, Tofu. He beckoned the dog closer to apologize, but was ignored in favor of Mitsuya.
"I'll treat you better baby." Mitsuya cooed as he placed the dog in his lap.
"You're all destroying my household!"
"Yes, blame us for your demise. Yasss." Said Keisuke sarcastically. Grabbing another slice.
He flinched when Draken pinched his toes.
"Is the nursery ready?" Draken said to change the subject.
"What's the point if my omega or I die before then. No one wants me." Mikey said. Throwing his arms up dramatically.
"Sanzu wants you." Kazutora chimed in.
"Sanzu is pregnant with my brother's third kid."
"He is Sano obsessed, not necessarily Mikey." Said Pah. Speaking up finally.
"Did y'all ever fuck?" Said Mitsuya.
"He gave me a blowjob, but got mad when I didn't want a relationship. I thought he went after my brother to make me jealous, but they're actually happy together. And he does home births."
"Here we go again." Said Draken.
"Your whole purpose tonight is to help me, but all I'm getting is back talk and dog kidnapping."
"I get Tofu if you die. My apartment doesn't allow dogs. So Tofu won't be going anywhere yet." On his third win, Pah threw down his controller in defeat. Mitsuya pulled Tofu closer to rub their noses together in joy. Tofu licked his face. Enjoying the attention.
"Mikey." Pah started. Turning sideways on the other couch to give Mikey full attention. "Tell us about the nursery."
Pah was one he didn't want to raise his voice at. He felt a bit better having someone give their undivided attention to him. That usually went to Takemitchy. The pretty omega that is carrying his kid, so maybe, just maybe he was being dramatic, but he'll always be salty for not cutting the umbilical cord.
So for the rest of the night, he focused on telling his ideas of being a dad and how they decorated the nursery.
Waking up, Takemichi was greeted by a blinding light and a horrible pain in his mid-section. He remembered they ended up having to do an emergency C-section.
Blinking a few more times. He saw the outline of what he suspected to be his husband.
Why was he here? Alpha's can't come this far into the birthing ward. He missed him. He too wanted to have a home birth with Mikey behind him, cheering him on, but Chifuyu gave him sound advice after his checkup to stick with a hospital. At least for the first kid.
He was glad he listened.
He could smell the blood. He wanted to shift his hips a bit but the pain was too paralyzing. He groaned. Almost going back to sleep, yet a voice caught his attention.
"You're finally awake." Turning his head slightly, Takemichi watched his husband sit up. Scooting the chair closer to the bed. His hair was dishevelled.
"I am." He said softly. Grasping the hand his husband reached out with.
"I was ready to burn this hospital down." Takemichi felt his hand being squeezed tighter. "To die with you. If you didn't wake up."
"How long was I out?"
"Six hours."
Takemichi took a moment to breathe deeply or as deeply as he could bring stitched up. Six hours after a two day labor process did not warrant a whole hospital being burned down. He wish he slept longer.
"That's not even-"
"For me-"
"You can't be-"
"I will make it-"
They went back and forth.
"How dare you argue with an omega who just gave birth?!" Said Takemichi. "To your son! That ten pounder!"
"I have a son?" Said Mikey with amazement. His selective hearing activated.
Looking at their hands still interlocked. "How'd you get in here?"
"Threaten them a bit. Said I had some dirt on a few doctors related to Chifuyu."
"Do I even want to know?"
Mikey shrugged.
Takemichi sighed. "How are you feeling?"
"Shouldn't I be asking you that?"
"You could have." He countered.
"I guess, I'm okay. I mostly want you home and the baby of course."
He told Chifuyu in private that he felt like Mikey was going to be an awkward Father. Either guns blazing or being brought to his knees by a 'no' from his kid.
He himself didn't know what kind of mother he would be. He tried not to think too hard about it either, but a whole little life was in their possession. What if he put coke on his baby's bottom instead of powder? Mikey never brought the drugs he sold home, but what ifs are possible.
He didn't want to share his woes with Mikey. The Alpha already provided so much for him, and he already felt bad for crushing his dreams of a home birth. If he gets the courage to get pregnant again, maybe the next one could be at home, but as he feels the stitches on his abdomen, that seems unlikely.
"I want to go home too." He said. His lip quivering. He wanted to be in his nest with his husband and fat baby.
Mikey stood up. Unlaced their hands to hop into the bed with him. He kissed Takemichi's face. Kissing the tears away as much as he can. He knew the pregnancy had been hard on his mate. The kid wasn't made on purpose, so he might get a vasectomy so he can do anything to lessen Takemitchy's pain in the future.
"You'll put another one in me right?" Mikey paused his kisses. His mate cannot be serious.
He was careful with his words. Pulling his mate closer, trying to be mindful of his stitches. "Why do you want another one?"
"So you can get your home birth." Look at his mate. Hormonal. He hopes.
"Sure." He carefully says. He doesn't want another one. He didn't want to see his mate in the hospital again.
"I'm excited to use the nursery." Takemichi yawn. Mikey's scent soothing him. These last couple of days without his mate was unpleasant. The hoodie was only useful for a day.
"Me too." Petting Takemichi's hair. He genuinely was. That night when Pah asked about the nursery was fun. Who knew so much could be said about a duck design.
"I'll let you drink my milk later too." He said trailing off. Going back to sleep.
That part, Mikey hoped, was not the hormones.
