As fun as the idea sounds, I can't really get behind the idea of Umbridge going to school with the Marauders and being younger than them. Since I'm basing this on the movie universe, I'm going to have her be born in 1956(the year her actress Imelda was born). So she would have been 39-40 during the events of OOTP(1995-1996). As for Fudge, his birthday isn't known, except for it being before the 1960s, so I'm just making him 25 to 45ish years older than her.
Also, I love that Umbridge is a half-blood
Dolores Umbridge laid in bed listening to Cornelius Fudge sleep.
He was laying on his back with his right arm around her. She had her head on his chest, feeling his heartbeat.
It had been a tiring week for the both of them, but especially him. Dealing with outrageous news that You-Know-Who had risen from the dead. Lies.
'Those troublemakers will get what they deserve.'
Dolores had always had the same thought process as Cornelius. That was what made them so close and why they worked together so well. They saw what was best for the Wizarding World as a whole.
The very first moment she had meant the Minister, she had felt a strong connection with him. She was his right-hand and would do anything for him.
He was everything to her.
Cornelius made her feel things and gave her things nobody has ever been able to.
Protection.
Power.
Love.
Dolores never had the first two growing up due to being...a half-blood with a muggle mother. Getting sorted into Slytherin at Hogwarts should have given her protection and power, but it didn't. Despite trying to keep it a secret, all the pure-bloods knew she was a half-blood and made sure to exclude her from important things. Trying to prove her worth would usually end in her own humiliation.
As much as she hated to admit it(and she would never admit it out loud), she knew her parents and brother once loved her.
Once.
Her father, who did nothing in his life but mop the floors of the Magical Maintenance Department.
Her muggle mother, who was the cause of her brother being a squib.
Her brother, who was just a weak squib.
Her mother and brother left when she was fifteen and Dolores never saw either of them again. Not that she cared, though. Them leaving didn't matter to her and had no effect on her whatsoever. At least, that's what she told herself anyway.
If she was being honest, the love in her family died when it was revealed her brother was just a squib. From then on, it was constant arguing until the day her mother and brother left.
Dolores's father didn't matter to her after she finished Hogwarts. She was embarrassed by him and when she reached a position of power in the Ministry, she paid him to leave and never speak to her again.
Never again would she be restricted from what she wanted, desired, and needed due to her father or her heritage. If people found out who her father once married, she would lose everything she had worked so hard to get.
To keep that from happening, she made up her own father and mother, made sure to tell everyone they were pure-bloods and that they had passed away years ago.
Nobody ever knew the truth.
Well, almost everyone...
Dolores shivered and she moved her body closer to Cornelius. She hated thinking about her real heritage.
Cornelius was the only one who knew about her past. She had never planned on telling him the truth, but as they grew closer together, she had admitted it to him during lunch one day. In the moment that she had admitted it to him. the feelings she had once felt as a teenager came back to her. She felt powerless and scared.
But Cornelius had reassured her by taking her hand and whispering that it doesn't change anything and promised he would keep her secret.
That was the moment her feelings towards Cornelius started to change. She knew it was unprofessional to have these feelings, but she couldn't help but view Cornelius as a father figure. He was everything she once wished her father was and more.
He gave her protection. She felt invincible in her position of power.
He gave her power. The power she had once so desperately craved.
He made her feel loved. Something that she once thought was weak.
She knew Cornelius probably she knew her feelings and didn't mind. After all, she knew he probably saw her as a daughter. He had never had any kids and she knew he still loved his wife. When out, she and Cornelius never did anything romantic. Sure, doing various things together like having lunch, shopping, and sharing a bed could be seen as romantic but it wasn't. At least to them, it wasn't.
She knew his wife thought otherwise. She had been sending various owls to him and Dolores had to restrain herself from responding to them herself. The man had spent decades with a woman who couldn't provide children and now he finally has one. She honestly wouldn't mind if they divorced. It would mean more time for them to be together.
Dolores couldn't wish for a better life than the one she had now. She silently sat up and moved up a little bit to give Cornelius a gentle kiss on the forehead before laying back down on his chest.
She silently yawned, the feeling of tiredness coming to her.
She had a big day tomorrow. Cornelius had told her they would have breakfast somewhere special and after they finish, he will tell her a big surprise he has for her.
His surprises were always the best.
She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep listening to the heartbeat of the man she viewed as her true father.
