Night of the WereKitty- Chapter 1

The final ingredient was added to the pot, as the black feline stirred the mixture with her wooden spoon. Inside the pot, the different colours swirled in the silver moonlight liquid; even when the room around her was almost pitched black.

Looking back at the spell book with the torch light, she must stir it up to ten times for the formula to have finally settled. Or was that eight times? The lettering had been smudged over the years of wear and tear. The liquid starting to run between the mixed colours; until she gave her final stir. Tapping the spoon for any residue, she finally rested it on the carpet floor and waited for the ingredients to calm down.

"Why does every spell need to be in complete darkness? Why not only to be casted on a sunny Monday morning instead?" She murmured to herself.

There. It must be completed now. The feline couldn't help but grin at her excitement. Carefully pouring the silver liquid into a bottle, the feline gently watched as the final colours whirled in the mixture, till it settled at the bottom of the glass. There the colours faded and left with only the moonlight silver. The potion was ready.

Stretching out her arms, the feline was finally settled as she screwed the top onto the glass bottle, carefully placing it to a nearby cupboard. Making sure nothing else could hit it, she moved away her mess of papers, books and other materials from the bottle.

Stepping back, she cursed as she accidently stepped on the spell book; the torchlight being pushed away by her foot. Blasting, she finally switched on the light. Her bedroom was indeed a mess; fallen paperwork from work, scattered spell books and tomes littered across the floor. Hopefully one day she could finally clean her mess, but for now, her lunch time break was over. Back to work. Taking one good look at her finished work, Ebony couldn't wait till Halloween; for this spell was going to be a blast.

But little did she know, in that complete darkness, the torchlight didn't point out an important error in her ways….

Weeks later, Halloween.

All the animals were celebrating their ghostly event. The children were dressed up, the adults were heading to parties and streets were preparing the midnight festivals. All the vibe was happening and Ebony couldn't be more excited. Even the Groovy Train was highly decorated in blacks, orange and purples. Monsters and ghouls were hanged and decorated on the tables. Even she could couldn't help but resist dressing up for her customers; a self-proclaimed witch; with pointed hat as proof. The customers gave her multiple compliments and everyone was enjoying themselves…. except for Pyjamas and Super Sonic.

Pyjamas was never a fan of Halloween as she never liked the banging of fireworks. The feline understood her longest friend but as for Super, Ebony couldn't help but feel sorry for him. It wasn't the fact he had never celebrated before, but the fact he was also getting compliments from customers…and he wasn't even dressed up. She could see his panicked and worried face as animals came to him complimenting his "demon" look. In the end, the yellow hedgehog ending up putting sun glasses on him to not look so open to the public. Sooner then later, she noticed he was no longer worried but shortly irritated.

Soon however, the day went by and was time to close shop. She could see Super smile to the customers as they left but the sigh of relief as he took his sun glasses off to tidy up. As the final chores were finished, Pyjamas called it a night; hopefully be asleep before the fireworks were set off. Saying goodbye, Super headed to the work kitchen to clean up.

This was the perfect opportunity for Ebony to rush upstairs. Excited, she headed to her room and almost fell over some boxes on the floor to grab the potion. It still shone a perfect moonlight colour as she whisked it around in her hand.

This will certainly cheer Super Sonic up. Suddenly, she could hear footsteps as the hedgehog had finished downstairs. She grabbed the bottle and headed to the kitchen in the flat, where Super was getting ready to cook.

"I thought we try that recipe, one for the customers gave me."

"Actually Super, I was wondering, if you wanted to go out tonight? The Halloween festival is full of parties and-"

"To be honest, no thanks. I think I've had my fill of pointed fingers at me today." The hedgehog replied with a hint of annoyance.

"But Super; I made this potion and-" But the feline stopped as Super turned around to face her.

"I'm sorry Ebony, I just; I just don't want to. But if you really want to see the fireworks later on, we could go up to the roof and see them?"

Ebony couldn't help but feel disappointed. But what could she say? Sighing, she nodded and took Super's suggestion. But the hedgehog could feel that he let her down. Turning around, he smiled to her.

"Also got those horror movies you wanted to watch; sure they'll be a blast."

Ebony smiled back. As the hedgehog prepared to cook (well hopefully not burn anything), Ebony headed back to her room. In annoyance she placed it back on top of her cupboard. Maybe she will take it later on and show Super the new party trick she made; maybe then he would change his mind? Her thoughts suddenly made her feel giddy again as she smiled.

Soon, the food was ready. The feline was starting to get impressed with his improved cooking skills; one of the traits he certainly didn't receive from his blue counterpart. The whole kitchen smelt delicious and as he served it, she had to laugh as he placed spider cookies on the plate.

"They were selling them at the neighbourhood today; couldn't resist."

Before she knew, he had put on quite a feast of Halloween goodies.

"I wanted to surprise you, hopefully the main dish wouldn't scare you off too much" Super joked.

Eating away, the feline was surprised how tasty it was. Both of them cheered to the celebration with glasses of fizzy potion juice and laughing at their attempts at eating the squishy spiders; each one squirmed out strawberry juice. After their bellies were full, they sat down at the couch and started watching the first horror movie; return of the Zombie Aliens.

Ebony and Super couldn't help but laugh at the poor attempts at the film; funnier than scary. Helping themselves to popcorn, Ebony started to feel thirsty. And then she had an idea. Smirking she stretched out and spoke;

"I'm gonna get a drink, be back in a sec."

But Super was still watching the television as the zombie aliens landed on the planet for invasion. Quickly darting for her bedroom, she saw the potion. Already her master plan was running in her head.

Taking the tight cork off, she raised it to her head and one big gulp, took it all down. In her bedroom she waited for the effects to take place. Nothing. She waited a bit longer; maybe a tingle or sparkle? Nothing. Had the potion worked? She was so certain she got everything right. She was about to look for the book but sadly she had forgotten just how untidy it was. She darted around to see if it was reaching point, but then-

"Ebony, what's holding up? The zombies are about to attack!" Super called out from the sofa.

Really annoyed, the feline left in a fluster. Feeling nothing, all she could do was grab a drink from the fridge and continue watching the film. But as time passed, nothing had changed. Maybe she did the potion wrong? Or was it made too early? She was dead certain the ingredients were right.

Suddenly she hadn't notice someone speaking out her name.

"You alright? Unusual for you to be quiet".

"Nah, just chilling." Ebony spoke back, stretching over to grab popcorn from the hedgehog's dish.

But still, she couldn't help but feel disappointed. Her ears could detect the outside noise fun and mischief. And here she was inside, watching another terrible horror movie. Yawning, she noticed the time was speeding away from them and honestly, she was struggling to keep her eyes open.

"I might as well head to bed. You staying up to see the fireworks?"

"Hmm maybe; depends if I don't dose off myself." Super smirked watching the TV.

Smirking Ebony slowly reached out of the sofa and slowly marched her way to her room. Super couldn't help but laugh as she dragged her body down the corridor, pretending to be one of the lifeless zombies from the movies. She felt like a zombie as her body slumped to her bed. Was it an effect of the potion? She wasn't sure and to be honest, she couldn't be bothered to check the book either. Quickly the urge to close her eyes overcame her and fell vastly asleep…

Suddenly a jolt in her body woke her up, her eyes darting around the room. Was it one of the fireworks that startled her? Emerging from her bed, she headed down the corridor to the kitchen. Everywhere was pitch black, that she couldn't even tell what time it was. Super must have gone to bed as well. Annoyed of the sudden awakening, she decided to make something to eat. She drew the curtains by instinct and there, in the high sky, she saw the full moon amongst the clouds.

Her green eyes couldn't stop looking at it in awe and amazement. But then suddenly she gasped and clutched her chest. Her knees started to give way as a full shudder overwhelmed her body. Staggering, she spun around to steady herself, but it happened again. Her body violently fought against herself as she collapsed to the floor. Feeling her heartbeat race faster, her vision started to blur. The pain surged to her face. She tried to scream, but her fear overcame her. Her hands on the floor started to grow bigger; her claws extending. Her feet started to buckle over as they also grew in size with incredible speed. Her face was in agony as her fangs grew, her muzzle grew faster by the second. Black fur erupted from her flesh. Panic and pain came too much and so in one mighty breath, she screamed…

Super Sonic's eyes burst open as he jolted from the scream. Was it a dream? But then he heard it again. His instincts rushed him off the bed and, in a panic, burst out of his bedroom and down the corridor to the kitchen.

"Ebony! Are you-" But then he stopped in mid-sentence.

As he switched on the kitchen light, a large amount of black fur ball rested at the kitchen floor. It was moving slowly, with a large black tail swishing across the floor.

"Ebony?"

As soon as it heard its name, two beady green eyes shot open. Growling. The beast rose up, almost touching the ceiling. The hedgehog stepped back suddenly as the monster stretched out its long body; having to quickly duck as he was almost hit by the large tail. In anticipation the beast raised its neck and looked directly at him; whiskers stretching out as long as Super's arms.

"Ebony? Is that you?" He called out.

Suddenly the beast jolted up and suddenly crashed around the kitchen. Super quickly ducked as furniture was kicked over and small items were scattered across the room, smashing to the floor. The beast was looking for a way to escape, till it saw one of the windows open. Without hesitation, the beast stormed through and with a mighty push, force itself outside. It clawed up to the top of the roof and landed near to the top of the ventilation. There it looked up at the full moon amongst the clouds. In one giant breath, the beast gave out a large mighty howl.

Metropolis was in the mass of its Halloween festivals, and Ebony wanted a piece of the action….
