A/N: Just a quick something inspired by "Fearful Lightning". This is different from my usual fics. It's the shortest fic I've written (so far), and it's entirely in Robbie's POV.

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

"Jackie Reid, is she attached?"

"You mean Detective Sergeant Reid? No, she's married with three kids. Did she no' tell you?

The first time he had said those words he'd lied. Robbie hadn't liked the suspect's obvious interest in Jackie, at the time he'd wanted her himself.

It's funny how things turn out.

That lie had resulted in him inviting her for dinner. A date which never actually happened—his own fault. If the dinner had gone ahead, things could have been different.

He didn't need to be a detective to work out that Mike Jardine had feelings for Jackie. Admittedly, his first impressions on that matter were superficial, but it hadn't taken him long to see that the two were close. Hell, even Jackie had joked that Mike saw her as his personal property.

So, it wasn't really a surprise when shortly after the failed date, Jackie got together with Michael. It seemed that his flirtatious banter with her had given Mike the push he'd needed to make a move. And honestly, any jealousy he might have felt quickly died at seeing Jackie so obviously happy.

He glanced at the suspect leering at Jackie and smothered a grin. The next words that came from the suspect's mouth were not unexpected.

"So…Jackie Reid. Is she seeing anyone?"

Robbie smirked; he was going to enjoy this. "You mean Detective Sergeant Reid? She's married with three kids." The look of disappointment on the other man's face was plain to see. "Did you not notice her wedding ring?"

The suspect shook his head slowly. "Pity," he said quietly.

Robbie found himself reflecting on Jackie's relationship with Mike. They had been dating for several months before they announced their engagement. Their reasoning being that they had already wasted so much time, they didn't want to waste any more.

The whole thing had brought out a side to Mike that Robbie never expected he'd see. Yes, he was still the strict DCI, but he was now a husband and father who clearly adored his family.

Their youngest child had been a complete surprise, but a very happy one. Jackie had recently returned from maternity leave; her desk now had an extra picture showing the newest addition to her family. He quite enjoyed playing 'Uncle Robbie' to the kids, he didn't get to see his son much nowadays, he found it dulled the pain somewhat.

And of course, he loved being able to take charge whenever Mike had gone on paternity leave.

The movement of the suspect caused Robbie to pull out of his reverie, he called him back. "One more thing," he said when the suspect faced him. "DS Reid's husband? He's the man in charge of this investigation. I don't think he'll be too pleased to find out you've taken a fancy to his wife."

The suspect's skin looked to have paled a little, he nodded before he walked away.

Robbie chuckled, amused at the situation. He spotted Michael and Jackie, probably discussing the case. Their working relationship was as good as it ever was and for the most part, their family life didn't interfere with the team.

She was still the one Mike trusted the most, based on years of working together and being close friends. It was an arrangement that wouldn't necessarily work for other people, but for them it was perfect.

Hectic, but perfect all the same.

No, Robbie didn't get the girl. But that was okay; he could never find it in him to be upset about that. In getting together, Mike and Jackie had finally gotten what they had always wanted.

In the end, Robbie concluded, everything had worked out for the best.

And as far as he was concerned, that was that.

A/N: Hopefully, giving them three kids isn't too much. I just wanted to fit it in with Robbie's lie in "Fearful Lightning".
