PAW Patrol
Mighty Pups, Charged Up!
Pups Get an Upgrade
Chapter 1
Adventure Bay had many reasons to celebrate. It had everything people wanted. Its population was expanding, more businesses of all types were opening, and it had the PAW Patrol, the ultimate search and rescue team. It differed from other places, which had regular police departments, fire departments, etc. The PAW Patrol was all those things rolled into one. And the best part was that while each pup had their specialty (Chase as a police officer, Marshall as a firefighter, etc.), all of them could do the same job if necessary. Heck, they could even be superheroes, the Mighty Pups, when need be. And the force had several had extra pups that waited in reserve (Everest, Tracker, Tuck, Ella, and Rex), and even a cat (Wild Cat) that did awesome stunts. It was all led by a tech-savvy boy named Ryder. What more could a town want?
Foggy Bottom, on the other hand, had too many reasons to cry. It had the worst mayor one could ever imagine (Mayor Humdinger), it was losing people left and right because of its mayor, and it was too damp, foggy, and just plain dull. "I guess somebody's got to live there," Wild Cat commented, "but I don't see why."
"I think it's because they have all the dentists, at least according to Mayor Humdinger," Ryder replied, "but Adventure Bay is getting a new dentist very soon. That dentist may even have once lived in Foggy Bottom."
"Our town is better than ever!" Mayor Goodway echoed. "And it's all thanks to the fact we also have that special meteor!" Indeed, a giant meteor had crash-landed in Adventure Bay and given all the pups mighty superpowers. It had also given superpowers to the reserve members (except Wild Cat, who had not joined by that point).
But what did all the great rescues of the PAW Patrol have in common? Apart from Ryder, it had all animals that walked on all fours, yet for some reason, could talk, and were somehow capable of driving vehicles. It certainly made for a unique experience. Only now, it was about to get even crazier.
It was getting dark that night and it was almost time for the pups to go to sleep, when suddenly Ryder's pup-pad rang like crazy. "Whoa; I must have a bunch of callers at once," he said. "I'd better take them one at a time." He touched the screen to answer. "Hi, Alex."
"Ryder, you won't believe it!" Alex Porter began. "There's another meteor coming down, and it's going to hit the beach!"
"Another meteor?" Ryder exclaimed. Then the pup-pad rang again. "Hold on a minute, Alex." He pressed the screen. "Captain Turbot?"
"Ryder, I'm sorry if someone else already spread the news about this, but I spotted another meteor, and it's heading right for the beach!"
"I just hope that awful Copycat isn't around!" Goodway added as she got into the camera. (She had been on Captain Turbot's boat, the Flounder, helping him with some of the chores and also feeding dinner to Wally the Walrus.) "But what if Mayor Humdinger wants to get at it? Or worse, what if that terrible bird lady comes back?"
"BA-BUCK, BA-GERK!" Chickaletta clucked.
"We're on it! No meteor is too large; no pup is too small!" Ryder slid his pup-pad and pressed the call button to summon the pups to the Lookout, calling out, "PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!"
"Ryder needs us!" all the pups exclaimed in unison as they began running to the Lookout. As usual, they all ran into the Lookout, and as usual, Marshall found a way to crash and enter last. This time, though, he just tripped over a volleyball, and as the volleyball bounced on his head, he commented, "Bump, set, spike!" The other pups laughed.
The elevator rose, and the pups found themselves in their traditional gear. They arranged themselves in a line as always, and Chase called out, "PAW Patrol ready for action, Ryder, sir!"
"Thanks, pups!" Ryder replied. "I know we've been through this routine before, but I got reports that there is another meteor headed towards Adventure Bay."
"Another one?" Skye exclaimed.
"Do you know if it is just like the mighty meteor that gave us our superpowers?" Chase asked.
"I don't know, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is," said Ryder. "What we need to do is to clear everyone out of town before it hits. The only difference is there's no rocket. When the last meteor hit, Mayor Humdinger was wanting to fly to the moon and be the first mayor of that. There's no rocket this time as far as I know. Still, I need all paws on deck!" He then gave instructions to each of the pups, and for extra security, also called in Everest, who promptly ran to her Snowcat and began to drive it down to town, with Jake cheering her on every step of the way. Ryder then slid down the pole to his ATV after declaring, "PAW Patrol is on a roll!", and the other pups slid down their slide to their vehicles.
As was the case before, the pups managed to get everyone to safety, and because history has a tendency to repeat itself, the second meteor did what the first meteor did: it flew past the Lookout and gave it a thunder-like aura, making the ground it shake, before it hit the beach.
"Oh, no; not again!" Francois commented. "Could this get any worse?"
"What do you mean?" Captain Turbot replied. "Nobody was here when it hit the beach. This majestic meteor is just as marvelous as the first one, though."
When it was safe to come back out, Rocky sounded the all-clear with a noisemaker he used from recycled parts, proclaiming as always, "Don't lose it; reuse it!" Everyone then came back out to look at the meteor. "What does it look like?" Rubble asked.
"It actually looks almost identical to the first one, except it's glowing blue; the other one was glowing yellow," Ryder commented. "Don't let anybody get too close, though."
"I don't want to put this into Town Hall," Goodway added. "I don't want a repeat of what happened last time."
"And I don't want Harold betraying me again!" came a voice from behind. Everybody gasped as they turned around to see Mayor Humdinger and his KCC (Kitten Catastrophe Crew) dashing at the meteor. "Ruff! Megaphone!" Chase barked as his megaphone came out. Then he spoke into it. "Mayor Humdinger! Stop!"
"Why should I listen to you?" Humdinger objected. "I'll finally have the superpowers I always wanted. If your puny town can have a meteor, so should Foggy Bottom! I'm tired of your town having the advantage!" He then tried to grab the meteor, ignoring the meowing his kittens were making, since they were scared of it. "No, you don't, kittens! We're taking this meteor to Foggy Bottom!"
"AH-CHOO!" Chase sneezed.
The meteor's glow went out, but then it suddenly turned a brighter shade of blue. "Oh, no; everybody stand back!" Zuma called as everybody but Humdinger ran to safety. Even the KCC was making a run for it.
"Fine! Run back home! Traitors!" Humdinger moaned as he tried to get the meteor. But instead of giving him superpowers like he wanted, the meteor made the ground shake before it slightly rose in the air. Then it suddenly thrust to the ground with a mighty "THUD!", shaking it slightly, and blowing the greedy mayor all the way back to Foggy Bottom.
Humdinger landed right in front of his lair. "Oh, that hurt!" he grunted. "But it's not fair! That meteor should have been mine!"
"Whoa; what made it blow Mayor Humdinger away like that?" Marshall asked.
"I don't know, but we need to get this meteor somewhere safe before it blows anybody else away," Ryder replied.
"Then this looks like a job for..." Skye began, and all the pups in unison imitated a trumpet by going, "DA, DA, DA, DA, DA, DA!" Then all the pups cheered, "The Mighty Pups!"
Ryder chuckled with a smile and said, "I couldn't have said it better myself! Mighty Pups, to the Lookout!" The pups howled with excitement as they raced back and prepared to become the Mighty Pups.
What was so special about this meteor, though? And why did it blow Mayor Humdinger all the way home?
