Killua tried his best to ignore the blinding headache as he made his way to his room. The right side of his shirt was drenched in blood from a bullet that had managed to graze him.

"Looks like someone was a little careless today" Illumi stated from the shadows, leaning against one of the many pillars in the long corridor.

"Its just a surface wound, I got a little distracted" Killua replied. It was the truth but he had no desire to elaborate.

"So it isn't as bad as it looks?" Illumi asked. Killua gave a slight nod as confirmation, he had no desire to continue this conversation. Killua assumed the silence meant that Illumi had got whatever answers he wanted and left. It always annoyed him that every time he returned from a mission Illumi was always waiting, when he was a kid he actually enjoyed it a little he would sit with illumi and describe how he had taken down the targets, but as he grew older his distaste for him only increased. What Killua earlier thought was affection and love turned into feeling of being monitored and controlled. Once he left with Gon he never thought he'd come back, but he had.

He finally reached his bedroom and closed the door behind him. This was the only place in the house where he felt at ease. On his return he had been allowed certain privileges as heir, one of which was that absolutely no one was allowed to enter his quarters unless requested by him. The room was large with two walls serving as glass windows overlooking the estate. In one corner was a comfortable couch facing a massive TV and next to it was a bar that he often made use of after particularly long days like this one. At the far end of the room was a ridiculously large bed on which lay a familiar silhouette.

"I told you not to wait up for me" he said, there was only one person on the estate exempt from the aforementioned rule, Alluka. She was 17 now, tall, slender and feminine. Her long hair tied up in a ponytail, but her voice still carried the innocence of a child.

"I was worried, I couldn't sleep"

"You know very well that I can take care of myself"

"Apparently not, you're drenched in blood and it looks like your own"

"I got a little distracted, its just a surface wound" the boy sighed, as much as he loved Alluka he hated being interrogated. He walked over to the younger sibling and hugged her, burying her head in his chest.

"I'm fine, it doesn't hurt" he felt her body relax as the words left his mouth. "Would you like to sleep here tonight? You can make yourself comfortable while I go wash the blood off" he continued. Alluka only nodded slightly in response, burying her head further in his chest. Killua softly kissed her head and let go of the girl.

"I'll be back in a bit" he smiled and made his way to the bathroom, knowing fully well that she'd be asleep by the time he returned.

The bathroom was just as large as the bedroom and had its own TV, he mostly used it for surveillance and to catch up on reports from tasks assigned to various family members, it was now one of his responsibilities as Silva's second in command, but before he got down to work he needed to take care of a few things.

After unbuttoning his white shirt the boy tried to slowly peel the garment off his body and winced as he pulled where the shirt had gotten stuck to the wound because of the dried blood. He dropped the shirt on the floor and opened the first aid kit on the counter top. After cleaning the wound he neatly stitched it up. It had been a while since he had to use one of his medically inclined skills, getting injured on missions wasn't a usual occurrence. Once satisfied, he got into the tub for a soak, making sure his wound doesn't touch the water. There was something that was bothering him.

The distraction.

He never got distracted. Bored? sure not all jobs were interesting but he had never allowed himself to get distracted. In his line was work all that was there between you and death was one small distraction. But today he couldn't help it, he felt it, if only for a second he was sure he did. The thing he was struggling with was that he was certain it was impossible. There was one way to know for sure. He picked up the phone next to him and called Gotoh.

"Yes, Master Killua"

"When was the last update?"

"Precisely two weeks ago"

"And the location?"

"Still Whale Island, should I send the pictures?"

"Yes, and send someone to check tomorrow" the boy replied and hung up. A few seconds later he received an attachment containing surveillance pictures from Whale Island. The spiky haired boy in the pictures was his best friend Gon, well best friend from four years ago, they hadn't spoken since they parted ways. Killua suspected it was because initially Gon has no idea where he was and once Killua returned to the estate he sent out a few butlers to go find Gon. It hadn't been particularly difficult. They found the boy soon enough, nen-less and living a normal life on Whale Island.

He had intended to go visit him soon but the day never came and two years flew by. He would often send butler to go check if Gon was doing okay from a distance and that was it. He could have put a 24x7 surveillance on him but he didn't want to violate his friend's privacy, he just wanted to know if he was okay.

The pictures showed an 18 year old Gon sitting on the grass with a girl about the same age as him, both of them had huge smiles on their faces, their backpacks lying next to them. The girl appeared fairly often in pictures. They'd often walk home together after school. Killua let out a small chuckle the thought of Gon going to school was quite amusing. After all they'd been through, he found it borderline comical to imagine him sitting in a class studying from a textbook.

He kept the phone aside, got out of the bath and dried himself. He changed into a comfortable pair of pajamas and re-entered the bedroom to find Alluka fast asleep. He wondered whether he would have returned if it hadn't been for her, after all she was the one who had insisted on returning home. Killua smiled as he run his hand through his hair. There was nothing he'd not do for Alluka.

He suddenly felt a wave of exhaustion hit him, but he knew there was one more thing he needed to do before he called it a night. He picked up his phone and pressed 9 on the speed dial.

"It's late, Alluka was worried"

"I know" he replied. He liked that her and Alluka got along, it made his life infinitely easier. She was always there for Alluka whenever he wasn't. " Hey Cheri, I have a favour to ask" he continued switching the topic.

"Sure, what it is?"

"Remember my friend from Whale Island?"

"You mean Gon?"

"Yeah, could you run a check on whether he's entered the city? He might be staying at one of your hotels. I've asked the butlers to check out Whale Island tomorrow but it might be faster to check your records"

"I'll have a look, but there are other hotels in the city that aren't owned by my family you know"

"Sure, like five of them. Just let me know if you find something"

"I will, but do you mind me asking why though?"

"I sensed his nen, just for a second, but I'm sure it was him"

"Interesting, I'll let you know if I find anything. Why don't you head to bed you must be exhausted"

"Yeah, thanks. I'll call you tomorrow. Night"

"Night Kil"

Killua kept the phone on the night stand and got into bed. It didn't take long for him to doze off and in his dreams his mind played memories from two years ago. The day he returned to the estate.
