New Crash story from me based on the current state of the world. I had woken up in the middle of the night and this idea randomly popped into my head. I just had to write it. XD
Disclaimer: I don't own Crash Bandicoot.
"It sure is great to see people out and about again! Isn't it, Crash?"
Crash nodded in his agreement with Coco's remark. He winked at his little sister as he walked alongside her, giving her a thumb-ups with his furry gloved hand.
The two bandicoots were making their way through the lush sunny landscape of N. Sanity Islands. Both of them were pleased to see it was bustling with activity once again as citizens were out and about again. Everything seemed more alive in comparison to how the lands had been last year. It had been very quiet on the islands since the global pandemic had struck. Not even their little corner of the globe had been immune to the crisis that was spreading around.
"I'm so glad to see restrictions are finally being lifted," Coco commented thankfully. "With a bit of luck, we'll be able to say goodbye to this pandemic soon and we can all get back to normal!"
Crash nodded again. He was eager to see the worldwide chaos fade away and leave the world in peace. It was something the heroic bandicoot was completely unable to defeat. It made all his battles against Cortex feel like a walk in the park. Fighting against his mortal enemy during the previous year hadn't been easy with all the restrictions in place.
Seeing their destination come into view, the bandicoots headed towards it. Stalls and marquees had been set up in the middle of a fenced-off area in the middle of a field. The farmers' market was taking place - after being constantly cancelled over the last twelve months.
"Oh boy!" Coco smiled. "I can't wait to do my shopping at the market and pick up some cool stuff! I never come home from the farmers' market empty handed!"
A wide grin was plastered to Crash's face. He rubbed his hands together eagerly. The only thing the goofy bandicoot was interested in purchasing from the market was a nice big juicy Wumpa Fruit. He couldn't wait to sink his teeth into his favourite food - as he did every single day.
Reaching the fenced-off area, the bandicoots prepared to enter the market. Crash was just swinging open the gate to head to the fruit stall - when he suddenly felt Coco grabbing his arm to stop him.
"Hold on, Crash!"
The younger bandicoot had noticed a sign nailed to the fence. She clutched onto her brother with one hand as she used her free one to point to the words painted in large red letters on the notice.
AS PER OUR SAFETY PRECAUTIONS,
MASKS MUST BE WORN BEFORE ENTRY.
"Not all restrictions have been lifted, big brother." Coco let go of Crash's arm before reaching into the pink handbag hanging from her shoulder. "We still gotta wear masks for protection."
Coco rummaged through her bag until she found what she was looking for. She pulled out the safety mask that she'd had to wear every time she'd entered a public place. Pulling it over her mouth and nose, she curled the straps around her ears so that it was held securely onto her furry face.
Once sure that she had fixed it tightly onto herself, Coco turned towards her brother. "Okay, Crash. Put your mask on-"
"OOGA BOOGA!"
Coco jumped and fell backwards with fright over the startling sight of what her brother had done without her noticing. The younger bandicoot fell onto the ground, staring up towards her older sibling with wide eyes.
Crash had certainly put a mask on his face.
Not a safety mask like his sister had on.
Instead, the crazy bandicoot was wearing...
...a golden Aku Aku mask.
"No, Crash!" Coco yelled. "Not that kind of mask! That's not the mask you're supposed to wear here!"
Taking no notice, Crash ran through the gate and entered the market with the magical witch doctor's mask attached to his face. With Aku Aku being in his golden form, the bandicoot had turned into an unstoppable destructive force. Everyone in the market screamed as Crash race through the area, wrecking everything he came into contact with.
"SOMEBODY!" A farmer hollered. "STOP THAT MAD MARSUPIAL!"
Stalls and tables were smashed to pieces as Crash made the slightest touch on them. Goods were sent flying everywhere and breaking to pieces. Fruit, vegetables were flowers were scattered on the ground whilst fresh cider burst out of barrels to flood the ground and soak anyone standing to close. All Coco could do was watch the chaos and carnage Crash was causing. She put a hand to her face as she shook her head, embarrassed by the pandemonium her own brother was causing.
At last, Aku Aku's invincibly powers faded away as the mask slid off of Crash's face. A muscular security guard stomped through the debris and mess to the one who had caused it. With a fierce look, he grabbed hold of Crash and lifted him off his feet - before delivering him a hard kick.
"WHOA!"
The next thing Crash knew, he was flying through the air. He was soaring high over the wrecked stalls and spilt goods which he had just been breaking and messing up. He whizzed over the fence before coming down with a splat on the ground, laying face down in front of Coco.
"And stay out!" The security guard snapped. "You brainless bandicoot!"
As Crash lifted his face from the ground, he found himself gazing up towards a very annoyed-looking Coco. The younger marsupial had pulled off her safety mask to send the frown she was wearing down to her older brother. She was not the least bit amused by the pandemonium he had just been causing.
"Crash, you've been doing this now for over a year! Whenever I tell you to put a mask on..." Coco paused, holding up what she had just removed from her face. "You put on this kind of mask, not Aku Aku!"
Crash shrugged. He grinned sheepishly at his irate little sister before lifting up the one thing he had taken from the market he had destroyed. The crazy bandicoot sank his teeth into the large Wumpa Fruit he had grabbed in all the anarchy he had made.
Smiling broadly, Crash began to munch happily away on the very thing he had come out for that day while Coco could only sigh and shake her head over all the trouble her silly big brother had caused.
Thanks for reading. Hope this gave you some laughs. :)
Cheerio!
