My name is Dakota Martin, and the world is filled with people with amazing powers or Quirks. About 80 percent of the world has some kind of quirk no matter how big or small. A new profession has taken the world by storm. Pro-Heroes fight back against the people who would use their powers for evil. Protecting the innocent. The strongest number one hero, All Might, is my idol. The very embodiment of what a hero is supposed to be. And this is the story of how I become the number one hero…

"The school year is over, and all of you must be thinking about what to do about your futures with you all being third years." The teacher spoke looking over a pamphlet of papers. His eyes moved from the papers to study the class. A smile then crossed his face and he threw the papers into the air behind him with a chuckle. "But I know most of you will be wanting to follow the hero track." He chuckled.

My classmates around me cheered. Several students flashed their Quirks in excitement. I smirked flexing my hands and stretching my legs. I wanted to show off the one Quirk that I show everyone, but I knew better.

"Calm down, you kids. You know you can't be flashing your Quirks during school hours." The teacher scolded. My classmates started to calm down slowly.

"Don't lump me in with these losers." A guy snapped from the back of the class. His tannish hair stuck up in all directions. He was leaned back in his chair with his feet up on the desk. I rolled my eyes at him. Katsuki Bakugo. The arrogant egotistical maniac of our class. His red eyes open; an evil smirk crossed his face. "We all know that I will be the number one out of this class. I ace all of the tests, and my Quirk is the strongest in the class." He stood up as he said this.

The teacher picked up some papers studying them as the other students protested against Bakugo. "You do have the scores, and you're quirk is pretty powerful. You want to get into U.A."

"The prestigious hero school?" Students whispered back and forth to each other. "They only have like a three percent acceptance rate…"

"Oh right. Dakota and Midoriya? Don't you two want to go to U.A. as well?" The teacher asked shooting glances between me and a green-haired boy next to me. The boy squeaked before shooting a cautious look at Bakugo who was vividly raging.

Bakugo slammed his palm into Midoriya's desk causing an explosion that ripped the desk in half. Midoriya slipped off his chair crashing to the floor and sliding against the wall. "You could not hang with the big dogs, you Quirkless wannabe!" He snarled. Izuku protested about not wanting to compete with Katsuki. I stand up slowly. His gaze moved to me sneering at me. "Got something to say, Speed Freak?"

I just shrugged off the nickname. I was used to him calling me that. "Why don't you just leave him alone and pick on someone your own size?" I stated crossing my arms. "Though you know you can't keep pace with me, Bakugo. So just leave him alone."

He sneered. "Whatever. If it ever came to a real fight, I would wipe the floor with you. I will be a better hero than you will ever be. Better than All Might himself." Bakugo snapped as the bell rung for release.

I returned his sneer with a smirk. My vocal cords tighten as I speak. "I'm so powerful and strong yet I can't even keep my hair under control." I spoke in an exact replica of Bakugo's voice. A little trick I picked up from one of my Quirks.

Bakugo growled at me, giving Midoriya a glare. "We aren't finished, Deku." He then stormed off back to his desk.

The other students chuckle as they file out of the classroom. I give Midoriya a small nod before following close behind the other students. I give Bakugo a mocking bow as I leave; he snarled at me before going back towards Midoriya. He jerked Midoriya's journal out of his hand, burning it with his explosion quirk, and tossing it out of the window. Midoriya protested the whole time while Bakugo's little gang snickered behind him.

I stroll over towards them. "What did I say about leaving Izuku alone?" I stated blatantly. Faster than either Bakugo or his gang could see, I had raced down out of the building and grabbed Midoriya's journal before sliding to a stop right next to Midoriya. "Here, Izuku." I hand him the journal back which he takes hesitantly with a thankful nod. I then turn back to Bakugo who is seething with rage.

"Who do you think you are to stand up for this quirkless wannabee?" He snarls glaring daggers at me.

I shrug. "Just someone who doesn't take kindly to bullies. Now get out of here. Before I jump into high gear again." My foot taps rapidly against the floor to emphasize my point. After a moment of us staring each other down, He snorts and walks off.

"You know Deku, there is a way you could still become a hero." Bakugo states once he reached the doorway. He shoots a glance over his shoulder with a small smirk. "Just hope that you are born with a quirk in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building." He chuckled lightly as he stalked out of the room.

My eye twitches in annoyance. "That arrogant little…" I stated only to be interrupted by Izuku.

"Maybe he is right." Izuku muttered staring down at his journal. "Maybe I will never be something more than a wannabe hero."

I shake my head and place a hand on his shoulder. "Don't listen to him, Midoriya. You have a purpose in life. I just know it. Don't let anything he says get to you. Ok?" I ask meeting his eyes. He gives me a tiny smile and returns my nod. "You going to be ok? I can walk home with you if you want me to." I offer.

Midoriya shakes his head. "No I will be fine, Dakota. Though I do have one question." I look to him expectantly. "Could you really have taken him? If he had taken the shot I mean."

I chuckle lightly. "Honestly, I might have. I am not sure, but I would have given it everything I had. But I've got to go. I will see you later, my friend. If you ever need anything, just reach out. I will race right over." With a small smile at my joke and a salute, I walk out of the classroom and out the front doors of the school. I knew that I had made a rival out of Bakugo, but that did not phase me any. I hated bullies. Especially ones that told people to commit suicide.

My house was only a short walk from the school. Even without using my quirk, it was only a five minute walk. As I open the metal fence gate leading into our front lawn, I freeze in my tracks. The front door of our house was hanging open. My mom never left the door open.

Everything slowed down as I raced up the front steps and stepped through the front door.

"Mom?" I call peaking my head through the doorway.

There were claw marks and skid marks leading up the stairs right across from the front door. My heart sank as realization hit me like a tractor trailer. My father had found us; he found us despite everything mom had done to hide our tracks.

"Mom?!" I shout again moving up the stairs slowly. If this really was my father, then I had to be careful. He was one of the most dangerous villains in the world. No one has ever caught him. Not even All Might himself. He just always found a way to escape and elude the Pro Heroes that came after him. He was simply known as Animal. With his shapeshifting Quirk, he could become any creature he wanted to and no one would ever know that it was him.

Before I reach the top, a large man in black Kevlar clothing steps up and stands at the top of the stairs. The skin on his face was scaly like a lizard and his eyes were yellow and slitted like a snake's. A wicked grin spread across his face causing a forked tongue to slither out before darting back into his mouth. His black hair was slicked back though a few strands were poking out. As if he had just been in a fight.

"Well hello there, son." The man smirked. "Took me awhile to find you and your bitch of a mother, but now here we are." He jerked a lifeless form into view. "She put up a fight, but as usual, she was no match for me. She never was."

My mom hung in his grip. She had her electric blue hero suit on with a lightning bolt on either shoulder. Though her suit had claw marks that marred the jumpsuit with blood oozing out of her wounds. A small groan escaped her lips. At least she was alive, but only barely.

"Let her go." I growl. My fists clenched at my sides.

My father chuckles. "I don't think so, Dakota. She has been hiding you from me for too long. You will either stand by my side and join the side of villainy. Or…" His grip tightened around my mom's throat causing her to whimper in pain. "Or you will join your mother in the afterlife."

My eyes dart back and forth between my parents. I have to get him away from her before he actually does kill her. Then a crazy idea comes to mind, and I smirk.

"You want me?" I demand as I feel the familiar energy fill my body. "Then you have to catch me first." I take off out the front door. Just as I had predicted, I hear him drop my mother followed by a squishing sound of him shapeshifting.

A roar that almost made me skid to a stop echoed around the street behind me. My shoes slam the concrete as I sprint down the street.

"You can't run from me, Dakota. You're nowhere near fast enough!" I hear my father roar. He was right on my heels. Even with my Quirk and the practice I had had with it , I was not fast enough to outrun him. The only thing I could do was to find a Pro Hero and hope that they can stop him.

A quick glance over my shoulder showed that my father had used his Quirk to change into the fastest land animal on the planet. The cheetah. And he was close on my tail. Any second he would have me, and there were no heroes in sight.

I ran straight into a large man made out of metal falling on my butt and sliding a few inches back. The man did not even register the fact that he had almost flattened me. I looked up at his face seeing a look of pure terror as he raced away down the block. My father dinged off of the man's metal skin letting out a strangled cheetah yelp.

People were screaming and running away. Explosions were coming from a patch of shops in the direction the people were running away from. Pro Heroes would be there and they would be able to stop my father. I move again sliding to a stop next to an extremely thin man gripping a telephone pole as people gathered looking onto the shops ablaze.

A large glob of what looked like living sewer water with eyes squirmed around keeping the local heroes at bay. Long tentacles slammed into the ground sending concrete everywhere. Other pedestrians screamed scattering in different directions as the hero, Death Arms, leapt into action. His muscles rippled as he caught a huge chunk of concrete stopping it from landing on a small child.

"Get out of here!" Death Arms shouted tossing the chunk to the side. "Where is All Might? With that kid as a hostage and his quirk, we can't get close!"

Kid? I ask myself. I peek over the crowd the best I could. Despite being 5'8, I could barely see over everyone. As the monster turned to face the heroes, I got a quick glimpse of tannish hair.

"Bakugo?" I stammer. Blood drained from my face as I fully realize what was going on. My classmate had been taken prisoner by a villain. In that moment, I had forgotten about my father chasing me. About being killed. Or even pushing my Quirk too far.

My legs moved before I could even think. My Quirked kicked in causing everything to slow down to me, but in reality, I was just moving faster than anyone could keep up with. I dropped my school bag and shot between the Pro-Heroes. My shoes skid against the smashed-up concrete as I slide to a stop in front of the water monster.

"There's a kid out there!" I hear someone scream.

"Get out of there kid!" Death Arms shouted. He tried to rush forward only to get stopped by a tentacle slamming into the ground.

The water monster turned on me. I could just make out Bakugo's face as he struggled within the monster's body. "And who might you be? A wannabe hero?" A tentacle swung towards me almost faster than my eyes could see. I barely ducked under the tentacle as it slashed the air above me.

Bakugo's eyes locked onto me. He struggled enough to get the water substance from around his mouth. "What are you doing her, Speed Freak?!" He growled. His hands sparked as an explosion ripped through the storefront I had just been standing in front of. "I don't need your help." The watery substance then covered his mouth again.

"I can't just stand back and watch you die. Even if you do pluck every last one of my nerves." I stated moving to dodge another tentacle using my Quirk. Everything started moving in slow motion again as I use my hands to try and grab Bakugo. Only my hands moved straight through the substance like it was actual water. I could not get a grip on it or Bakugo. What was this thing made out of? I asked myself as I dodged another tentacle.

I don't have much time left, I warned myself. My legs were starting to shake from using my Sonic Quirk for as long as I was. Another minute and I would not be fast enough to dodge another swipe from the villain. I wouldn't even be able to move. My legs felt as if they were being broken from the strain.

"Now what kind of hero would I be if I did not risk everything to save others." A deep familiar voice boomed. A large well built man almost appeared out of nowhere catching a tentacle before it would have smashed me into the concrete. "That is what a hero does do they not? Risk their lives to save even one life?"

"All Might?" I gasped. He was the Pro-Hero that I looked up to the most. The Number One hero.

"Not you again!" The monster roared. "I will not be defeated again!" It lashed out at All Might and me in desperation.

"Texas…" All Might pulled his fist back before throwing a fist with everything he had at the monster. He grabbed Bakugo midswing. "SMASH!" His fist did not even touch the monster, but the force of the wind from the punch created winds so strong that the monster couldn't even keep itself together. It blasted into bits scattering around the store fronts.

I landed on my butt and slid a few feet backwards from the winds. My legs were finished from the strain of my Quirk. They were bent at a slight angle from the strain of my Quirk. I slump backwards against the ground.

A cheetah races towards me with a fearsome roar. "You are dead!" My father shouted as his outstretched claws came towards my neck. But before he could reach me, tendrils of wooden vines wrap around him lifting him off the ground.

"Now is this who I think it is?" A thin man with wooden skin and a wooden-like mask states as my father writhes in the vines. "The nefarious Shifter? The one that always escapes Pro Heroes."

My father changes into a small rodent escaping the vines before shifting into a small falcon. His beady little eyes glare at me with malice. "We are not done, Dakota. Far from it." He then darts into the air out of range of any of the Pro Heroes attacks.

I let out a terrified breath as I prop myself up with my arms. Death Arms and the wooden hero, Kamui Woods, jog up to me. Death Arms kneeled down next to my legs.

"That was very dangerous kid." Kamui Woods scorned me. "Do you have a death wish?"

I shrug slightly. "I was already being chased anyway. My…" I stop myself. I almost said my father. "Shifter had broke into my house and injured my mom. He then chased me all the way here. So either way, I could have died."

Death Arms nodded. "Can you move?" I shake my head. With gentle arms, the Pro Hero lifted me up and carried me over to an ambulance that had just pulled up. "Well thankfully no one else was hurt, and your only injuries are from your own Quirk. Plus that other kid is unharmed as well."

I nod in relief. I shoot a glance towards where Bakugo is surrounded by other Pros.

The next hour was a blur. I remember going to the hospital and getting my legs fixed right up by someone with a healing Quirk. Followed by getting mobbed by reporters, I was able to go home with my mom who had been brought in right after I had been.

She ruffled my hair and wrapped an arm around my shoulders. "I am sorry that your dad had found us, but you are getting ready to enroll in U.A.. So hopefully he will stay away for awhile this time." She smiled at me. A smile that always made all my worries melt away. "Go ahead and head home. I am going to head to the agency and tie up a few loose ends."

I nod. "Alright mom. I will see you when I get home." I give her a hug before starting home. The backways were always the fastest way to get back to our house.

"Dakota!" I heard Bakugo's voice after I had turned down a back road that was a few streets away from my house. He was in his black school uniform just as I was. His signature sneer crossed his face, but the look in his eyes was something different. Something that I couldn't place. "I do not owe you anything. All you did was run in circles. That's all you are good for!" He then whirled around and stormed off muttering to himself.

I roll my eyes. Bakugo has such a big ego, and it irritates me to no end. When I turn around, I come face to face with the Number 1 hero, All Might, himself. My eyes widen.

"Wha… All Might?!" I stammer taking a step back. "What are you?"

All Might grinned at me. "Well, I wanted to meet the kid who risked his life not only trying to rescue the explosive kid from the villain and took on the ruthless Shifter." He stated pointing his finger at me. "And I have an offer for you, young man. I will also be trusting you with a major secret." Steam rose from his skin before in a flash of steam, the large man was replaced by a sickly thin man with black rimmed eyes. The same man I remember seeing when I ran up on the sludge villain.

I take a step back and stare at my idol in shock. "What is going on? What happened to you?"

After coughing, All Might explained everything about his Quirk being one called One for All and his battle that weakened him. All I could do was stand there and listen. Despite how little of it really made sense, I believed him. I mean why wouldn't you believe the greatest hero in history.

"I can transfer my Quirk to someone else." All Might explains holding out his hand to me. "Seeing you… a kid that was already running from something terrifying… forget all about yourself and getting hunted by the Shifter to do what no other hero nearby would do. To put yourself in even more danger just to try and save your classmate."

A shiver ran through my body at his words. To hear that from my all time favorite hero, aside from my mom, was something I could have only dreamed of.

"So… do you accept this gift?" All Might asks looking down at me.

"I mean… can I say no?" I respond with a small smile. "I mean I want to become a hero. A hero like you and my mom."

All Might chuckled lightly. "Good. We have a lot of training to do. Meet me down at the beach in the morning, and we will begin with your training. Plus you can tell me about your Quirk."

I frown. He didn't know about who my father was. Or the fact that I had two Quirks. I give him a nod before heading home. It was another few more minutes to my house. It wasn't a fancy house, but it was all my mom and I needed. I dropped my school bags by the door before heading upstairs to my room and passing out on my bed. After the whole thing with my father and with the sludge monster, I was tired. My legs were healed, but my Sonic Quirk takes a lot out of me on top of tearing my legs apart from overuse. I slipped into dreamland without another sound.
