Chapter One: First Breath's End

Life was war, nothingness, the repetitive death and downfall of families. Until there was Chakra. The spiritual and physical energy of life. It was a gift, meant to express emotions, meant to express yourself. It was used to kill. Long ago, it was almost taken back from the people that abused it; everyone. But that is a story for another time, another view, for a lighter heart. Life, with the existence of Chakra, existed as a massacre of the world. Some, thrived and lived in peace. Others did not.

The Uchiha and Senju clans rivalled for centuries pettily in need of vengeance, blood for blood. It seemed humans could not live without the bloodshed of their own race. The Uchiha were a proud clan, stoic, but devoted to their loved ones to the deaths of them. Infamous for their Bloodline Limit, cursed eyes that bore the risk of hatred with their infinite love. The Senju clan were known for their powerful Chakra and their blessed bodies. It was the day that the clan head, Madara Uchiha, shook hands with the clan head of the Senju, Hashirama Senju, the God of Shinobi, to stand together and create the Village Hidden in the Leaves in their home, the Land of Fire, that a man who lost everything to the Senju clan, Ryosuke Uchiha, lost his mind as well.

It was not a long time before Ryosuke took out his rage on the only thing he didn't lose: his son, Eiji. The boy grew up with hatred in his veins until his father died in the First Shinobi World War, a war between Ninja of differing villages. The North was occupied by the Village Hidden in the Clouds in Lightning Country. To the East, in the Land of Water-a series of islands-an island filled with Ninjas far off the coast, surrounded by mist, they were justly named the Village Hidden in the Mist. To the West, in a boiling desert, the Village Hidden in the Sand stood in the Land of Wind. To the Northwest, in the Land of Earth the Village Hidden in the Rocks was concealed by mountains and hills.

As a soldier, a Ninja in the Hidden Leaf Village just as his father was forced to be, Eiji served in the war. There, on the battlefield he met his soon-to-be-wife, Agashi Uchiha, and lost his life before he could meet his newborn daughter.

Like her father, Sue-Lee Uchiha became a Ninja, despite her mothers wishes to never pick up a Ninja tool in her life, shuriken found themselves in her pale hands. Just as her father, and her father's father, Sue-Lee was meant to be a Ninja. It was a boy from the Village Hidden in the Mist that caught her eye.

She spent years exploring the islands, completing missions there for the Leaf, when she met the kindest man, a man she fell in love with. A simple fisherman, by the name of Pao, with the sweetest heart, that won her over by a glance and a smile. Eventually, she was recalled to the Village Hidden in the Leaf, forced to leave Pao behind, and engage in marriage with Bū Uchiha, another emotionless killer known as a Ninja. She regaled her son, Nakkako Uchiha, with an endless supply of the tales in the Land of Water. Bū trained him as a Ninja, and left no room in their relationship for love.

At the age of 14, after the death of his mother by his father to attain the Mangekyō Sharingan, the next stage of the Uchiha's cursed eyes, all for power, Nakkako faked his own death in the Second Shinobi World War, and fled the Land of Fire. To live out a life his mother would have wanted, Nakkako moved to the Land of Water. There, with hidden secrets, he met the mother of his child.

August 4th, 21:00

"Uchiha-san" The nurse spoke politely, pulling his medical face mask down for the man to hear him better. Nakkako turned to him, he was only thirty but stress lines were painted across his face, under his narrowed eyes, across his scrunched up forehead, around permanently frowning lips. "You may enter now." The nurse said calmly.

Not five minutes ago, Nakkako had stopped hearing the screaming of his wife as he stood outside. It was not his place to be there. He moved and closed the door to the room his newborn son and his wife rested in to give them privacy. The doctors had left, as did the nurses so they could be left alone. It was the white bundle of a blanket that caught Nakkako's attention far more than his exhausted wife, hair as white as the day he met her, eyes a bit blurry. The burning twin red dots on his forehead, freshly tattooed but yet the child did not cry. A small, white tuft of hair, with black mixed in it like a chemical reaction layered the child's cranium. Black eyes opened immediately as he looked at the baby's face. They were curious. Nakkako raised his pointer finger, and wagged it in front of what was supposed to be a sleeping baby, but the child had no reaction to it. "Nakkako-kun...I'd like you to meet Jin Kaguya." Asame said quietly.

"He's beautiful." Was all the stern Nakkako could get out. "We're his parents. We made him." Nakkako realized in understanding. "We did..." she agreed with a smile, strained though just by the act of staying awake.

She was obviously tired, and it seemed to be getting to her. "You should get some rest" Nakkako said, taking the bundle from her arms slowly, with such little energy thats she hardly fought it. He stood at his full height of 6' with his newborn son in his arms for the first time ever that night. "One day..." he smiled lightly, a rare sight to Asame. "One day, he will be a viper among the grass...A fine Shinobi..." Nakkako murmured as he left the room. She fell asleep, and so too did her son, and eventually, her husband. This was the beginning of Jin. It was the grass that would suffocate him.
