Yes, I know I wrote that I wouldn't be writing in the Pokemon reality anymore when I pulled this story off of , but since then I've read the excellent Borne of Caution by Fuggman and it's drawn me back in.

Ken's Pokemon Legend
Chapter One-The Beginning of a Journey
One
It was a spring morning in Pallet Town and outside of Professor Oak's Pokemon Lab, a battle had drawn a crowd. It was not a Pokemon battle as you might expect, but a battle between a pair of martial artists instead. Finally, after several quick exchanges of punches and kicks, there was a pause in the fight. In this pause, the younger of the two fighters, a blond teenager, shouted, "Knock it off, old man! I'm eighteen now, so I don't need your permission to go on a Pokemon journey!"
"Ken, I didn't train you in karate in order for you to waste that training by running off on a Pokemon journey. As it stands, your training is unfinished," his father replied before cupping his hands and gathering his Aura in between his palms. And was shocked to see Ken copy his movements. Then, they unleashed their Aura Sphere attacks at the same moment. The Aura Spheres collided with a boom with the backlash of the colliding attacks knocking everyone on their asses with the exception of Ken's father, who was thrown through the Pokemon Lab's front door.
Ken was the first to get back up, asking, "Is everyone alright?" He got positive answers from the crowd. Then he noticed the Lab's lack of a door and exclaiming, "Oh, shit!" he ran forward to check things out, shouting, "Alright there, Professor
Oak?"
"No concern for you father?" asked his father as he stood back up himself, brushing bits of wood off of himself.
"I'm fine, young Ken," Professor Oak said, "Though most people knock on my door instead of throwing someone through it."
"Yeah, I'm sorry about the door, Professor Oak," Ken said, his hand ruffling his hair in embarrassment. He then blocked a punch from his father, saying, "Cut that shit out, dad!"
"I didn't hear an apology to me," his father said.
"And you're not getting one. This mess is half your fault anyway," Ken said.
"Ken is right, John," Professor Oak said, "You should know better than to start fighting with your son in town. Also, Ken no longer needs your permission to become a Pokemon trainer seeing as he is an adult."
"Thank you, Professor Oak," Ken said.
"It's no problem, Ken," Professor Oak replied, "Now why don't you come in and join your fellow rookie trainers in picking up your starter Pokemon."
"Alright," Ken agreed.
Two
"You're actually the last of this year's rookies to arrive at the lab, Ken," Professor Oak said as they entered the lab.
"I certainly didn't plan it that way," Ken grumbled, his hands in his hoodie's pockets.
"There you are! It's about time," one of the children waiting to receive their starter Pokemon said.
"Drake, you brat, it isn't my fault I'm late," Ken replied.
Drake opened his mouth to say something more, but was interrupted by Professor Oak saying, "Now that we are all here, let me just say it is quite an exciting day for the Kanto/Johto Pokemon League and Pallet Town considering the number of rookie trainers setting out from here today. Now then when I call your name, come up to collect your starter Pokemon, Pokedex and first five Pokeballs. Thomas Jones!" A plain boy with brown hair and eyes stepped forward to collect the Pokeball containing his starter. "Lily and Rose Joy!" A pair of pink-haired twin girls who obviously belonged to the Joy family collected their starters while grumbling about being called at the same time. "Ken Masters!" Ken stepped forward and collected his Pokemon and stuff. "And finally, Drake Smith!"
"But far from the least!" said the red-eyed, silver-haired boy as he collected his Pokemon, "In fact, you're looking at the next Kanto/Johto champion!"
"No, we're looking at a jerk with an over-sized ego," said one of the Joy twins. Ken wasn't sure which even though they had different hairstyles with one wearing the looping tails that the Joys tended to wear while the other wore hers shoulder length.
"What did you say, Lily?" Drake asked with a glare at the shorter haired girl.
"Are you deaf or just stupid? I said your ego is too big," she replied.
"Why don't you put your money where your mouth is?" Drake asked, reaching for the pokeball newly clipped to his belt.
"Gladly," she said, reaching for her pokeball.
"Kids, kids, I think you should probably take your Pokemon battle outside instead of trashing Professor Oak's lab," Ken said.
"You would know about trashing things, wouldn't you? What with throwing your father through the Professor's door," Drake remarked snidely.
"However, he is right," Professor Oak said, "I would prefer you go outside to battle."
Three
"Ready to lose?" Drake asked Lily as they faced off.
"That was my question to you," she replied.
"Okay, this is a one on one battle between your starter Pokemon," Professor Oak stated, "It ends when one of your Pokemon is unable to continue or you give up."
"Bulbasaur, you're up," Lily called out, releasing her starter from it's pokeball.
"Gible, it's all you!" Drake called as he released his starter.
"A Gible? Your family imported you a Gible?" Ken asked in disbelief from the sidelines.
"Why not?" Drake replied in a snarl, "We are a family of dragon trainers."
"Yes, your family are dragon trainers, but seeing as dragon-types are sometimes difficult to control, I can see why young Ken is surprised, Drake," Professor Oak said.
"Oh, forget this," Drake snarled, "Gible, use sand-attack!" Gible ignored his order.
"Bulbasaur, razor leaf!" Lily ordered and her Bulbasaur complied, shooting leaves at Gible. Gible was knocked off of its feet as the leaves connected. "Now," Lily called out, "Close in and tackle Gible while it's down."
"Gible, get out of the way," Drake called out, but Gible was too slow in getting to its feet and Bulbasur's tackle landed, knocking Gible out and sending it to land in a heap at Drake's feet. "Gible, return," Drake said, recalling his Pokemon to its pokeball, "I don't get it… Why didn't Gible listen to me?"
"Not such a hotshot dragon trainer yet, after all, Drake," Lily said snidely.
Fuming, Drake opened his mouth to reply when Ken chuckled slightly. "And what are you laughing about?" Drake shouted.
"Oh, it's nothing really. Just remembering the day Ash Ketchum left Pallet for his Pokemon journey," Ken replied.
"The guy who went on to become Alola's first champion? What about him?" Drake asked, confused.
"It's true that he became Alola's champion, but the day he left Pallet Town, he arrived late to the lab while in his pajamas and left with a Pikachu he couldn't control. Damn Pokemon shocked the whole crowd." Ken said, "Your trouble with Gible reminded me of him that day. So, I don't doubt you can become a great trainer or anything, but don't expect it to be easy."
"Alright, I get it," Drake said with a pout, "Hey, what Pokemon did you get as a starter, anyway?"
"Why do you ask?" Ken asked.
"It's just that I know that Lily, Rose and Tom chose the three starters that the League provides for the Professor's Pokemon Lab, so I had to convince my family to pay for importing my Gible, but your dad doesn't support your choice to become a trainer," Drake explained.
"I wrote to my mom and she sent an Eevee from Galar for me," Ken told him.
"You went to your mother?" Ken's Father shouted at him.
"Yup!" Ken exclaimed.
"Damn woman probably helped you just to spite me," His father complained.
"Nah, she was really supportive in her E-mails," Ken replied, "Of both my goals, actually."
"Both of your goals?" his father asked, sounding slightly confused.
"To become one of the greats, both as a Pokemon trainer and a martial artist," Ken explained.
"You aren't giving up martial arts?" his father asked.
"After spending a year on teaching myself Aura Sphere? Not damn likely!" Ken exclaimed.
"How did you know about it in the first place?" his father demanded to know.
"I followed you one night when you went to practice it in the forest nearby," Ken explained with a shrug.
"You followed me without me noticing? Well, your stealth isn't lacking!" his father exclaimed with a laugh, "But, I guess I have no more complaints about you becoming a Pokemon trainer. Although, you should go say goodbye to Scar and the local Mankey troop."
"I already planned to do that. Scar and his troop were great training in fighting multiple opponents," Ken said.

It was about an hour later and Ken was deep in the woods surrounding Pallet Town when he encountered the Mankey troop. Upon seeing the Mankey, he called out, "Hey, Scar, are you there?" For a moment, there was no response other than a rustling of leaves off to his left. Then came the punch towards the side of Ken's head that he took a quick step backward to dodge and then he countered the attack by grabbing the fist as it flew by his face and slamming the fist's owner to the ground. "Nice try, Scar, but you know you've been noisier since you evolved into a Primeape."
"Primeape!" Scar exclaimed from his position pinned to the ground as he attempted to stare Ken down. It was a look that would intimidate almost anyone due to the scar that ran vertically through his left eye and left him blind on that side.
"Anyway, I have news," Ken said as he let Scar up off the ground.
"Primeape?" Scar asked.
"I'm finally leaving to become a Pokemon trainer," Ken explained. The Mankey troop scattered into the woods at this proclamation. As they did, Ken let Scar up and said, "What a grand show of support."
Scar, meanwhile, started screeching at the troop until they came back. He then tapped Ken on the shoulder and once he had the teen's attention, pointed at one of the Mankey in the crowd and imitated throwing a pokeball. He then repeated the process when Ken just looked at him, confused.
"Are you telling me you want me to catch one of your troop?" Ken asked, slowly catching on after the third repetition.
"Primeape!" Scar agreed, nodding.
"Okay," Ken said, still confused but reaching for one of his pokeballs. He then threw it at the Mankey and watched as the Mankey was transformed into light and sucked into the pokeball. The pokeball then rocked three times and pinged. "Well, Scar, thanks for lending me one of your troop, even if I still don't understand why," Ken said with a shrug.
"Primeape!" Scar replied.
"Uh, right! See ya around, Scar," Ken said, waving goodbye. He then left the woods to return to Pallet town and then headed north to Viridian city. His trip was uneventful.
