Chapter 1: Team Six's Start!

The full moon bathed Konoha's dark empty streets in a glistening white light. Out of nowhere, the peaceful night was disrupted by a blood-curdling roar. Nine orange tails burst out wildly, in the middle of the village stood an orange fox that towered over the village. It's piercing red-eyed gaze bathed the village in a menacing aura. The valiant ninja of Konoha sprung into action to try and defend their village.

"We have to hold the demon off until the fourth Hokage comes!" Yelled the Jonin commander Shikaku Nara as he tried to subdue the beast with his fellow clansmen. "We have to keep it away from the residential area!" The once dark sky was lit up with the searing hot flames coming from the gaping maw of the demonic fox.

Everyone who dared to get in the demon fox's path was instantly eviscerated by piercing white claws as long as a building. Minutes had passed and already twenty-five percent of the village was devastated.

Small blue and red orbs started forming into a larger orb near the Kyuubi's gaping maw.

The third Hokage yelled, "IF THAT ATTACK LANDS WE'RE DONE FOR, WE HAVE TO STOP IT NOW!" Gradually the purple ball started growing in size while the ninja of Konoha did everything they could to defeat the beast, even though it was futile. The demonic fox let loose the bomb. Just as the orb of concentrated chakra was about to devastate the village it disappeared. Then a giant brown toad with a scar over its left eye appeared right above the fox subduing it to the ground.

"THE FOURTH HOKAGE IS HERE!" cheered the ninja of Konoha. As sudden as the fox had appeared it disappeared out of thin air. The streets of Konoha were filled with cheers of relief that the beast had finally been defeated.

"JUST BECAUSE THE FOX HAS BEEN DEFEATED DOESN'T MEAN WE SHOULD BE CELEBRATING JUST YET, LOOK FOR SURVIVORS!" Commanded Hiruzen Sarutobi. 'I have to find Minato,' he thought. "Kizaru, Roshu come with me, we have to find Minato and Kushina."

Ten Years Later

It was a bright, searing summer day in Konoha. As usual, you could hear the cicada's chirping in the distance as the sun shone brightly in the middle of the clear blue sky. On the rooftop canopy of the Konoha, academy sat three newly minted genin, in front of them was their new sensei. He was dressed in a bold skin-tight cactus green jumpsuit with the typical Jonin flak and orange leg warmers. The most noticeable feature about this man was his bushy eyebrows and his black hair in a bowl cut.

"As of today you are all genin, so now tell me why have you done it? What are your goals, mhm?"

Tenten raised her hand and waved it around excitedly, "Oh, Me, me sensei, me!"

Gai looked over to his only female student with a smile and acknowledged her, "Yes, Tenten."

"I want to be a great powerful ninja, to walk in the footsteps of the legendary kunoichi Tsunade!" she exclaimed with a great smile on her face.

"I see that's a great goal, you'll have to work up towards!" he responded with a great smile. He then gestured to the boy with a long ponytail and light lavender eyes brooding to the right of Lee. "And you Neji?"

"I'd rather not say." He started with low enthusiasm, as he turned away.

Lee shot his hand up as soon as Neji finished his comment, "How about me sensei! I want to show I can be a splendid ninja as well, even if I do not have ninjutsu or genjutsu! I want to prove it to the whole world!"

'There's that look in his eye' Gai thought with a smirk on his face.

"Hmph."

Lee shot up and pointed his finger in Neji's face, "What, what is so funny!" he exclaimed with a burning passion. "You think I am joking? I mean it I will be a splendid ninja just by using taijutsu and nothing else!"

"I've seen you in class, you're hopeless. As soon as you're born your destiny is decided, with what you were given in life you'll never be a great ninja." Neji rebutted. Lee gave Neji a steely glare.

"Alright, alright both of you calm down." Gai interrupted, as he turned to look at Neji with a grin on his face. "Just because Lee was born without the ability to use ninjutsu or genjutsu does not mean that he can not be a splendid ninja!"

"hmph."

"So what's next sensei?"

"I am glad you asked," Gai said as he gave his group of genin a thumbs up with a giant grin. "You see you haven't become fully-fledged genin yet." When Gai finished talking all three genin had stood up in protest.

"What do you mean we haven't passed!?" Tenten whined. "We did the whole test and everything!" Gais's smirk grew even bigger.

"That was just the first test to weed out the completely hopeless."

"Whatever you have in store I'll easily make it through" Neji arrogantly commented with a smirk. "I'd only be worried about Lee though."

"HEY WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!" Lee said in protest.

"Hey now, this challenge should test all of your abilities to the limits no matter the skill level." Gai gestured for his students to stand up. "You see there are only two slots for my genin team," Tenten's face morphed into a look of concern while Lee's eyes burned with determination, Neji however as usual didn't react.

"What about the other person?"

"Well Tenten, I'm glad you asked. They will be sent back to the academy." Guy turned around so that his back was facing his genin, "All you have to do is keep up with me! HAHA," Guy ran towards the entrance for the academy.

A smile grew on Lee's face, 'My type of challenge.' They all started to chase after their sensei.

ten minutes later

It was easy at first to keep up with Gai as he ran through the school, all three genin hopefuls easily made it through without breaking a sweat. However, as soon as they exited the academy doors five minutes ago Gai's sped up every minute, by now they'd passed the local library and Gai now had a sizable gap between all three of them.

"He's *huff* getting farther and farther away," said Tenten in between heavy breaths.

Gai laughed with his booming voice," If that's the best you guys have to give after ten minutes then I'm afraid I can't pass any of you!"

Lee grimaced and pushed himself even more to try and close the gap. Following suit Tenten and Neji steeled their nerves and pushed themselves even more.

'I can't fail now when I haven't even come close to my goal,' Neji yelled in his mind.

Another ten minutes later

All three genin were struggling to push through the pain. Covered with sweat they all trudged through the streets to keep up with Might Gai. Neji was by far the closest to Gai, he still had a great distance to catch up to the majestic green beast. Lee was in the center while Tenten was a little behind him.

Lee was running on fumes, frankly, they all were, it had been a miracle they had made it this far.

'Hmh, they sure are hardy!' Gai's already big smile grew even larger.

It didn't take long however for Lee to collapse. "I have to keep going!" he said as he tried to get back up. "AHH," he groaned in pain. Then suddenly felt his arm being grabbed and he felt himself being lifted. He was surprised to see that it was Tenten who helped him up. "What are you doing, only two of us can pass."

"I can't just leave you here, and maybe if we finish together he'll give us a chance." With the remaining strength, she had she tried to lift Lee's arm onto her right shoulder to help him run. "Why do you have to be so heavy." she groaned as she tried to get him over the soldier.

"You guys are hopeless," They looked up and noticed Neji running back to help them up. "Haven't you noticed the premise of this test?"

"What do you mean?" Lee asked

"Have you ever heard of a genin team with only two Genin? There are always four-man squads."

Tenten's face lit up, "So he was lying to try and divide us and see if we would help each other out instead of thinking for ourselves!"

"Exactly!" Their teacher Gai was not standing in front of all three Genin with his hands on his hips and a large grin on his face. "And since you all looked out for each other that means you pass!" Tenten and Lee's faces were filled with joy while Neji's just bore a small smirk. "I'd have us take a picture right now but you're all sweaty from the run." Lee rubbed the back of his head with his hand. "From now on we'll be known as team six! Tomorrow we'll meet at training ground six at 7:25."

"So early?" Tenten asked

Gai chuckled, " The start of the day is when my flames of youth burn brightest!" A large sweatdrop formed on Tenten and Neji's face. "Dismissed!"

'I need to prepare for what is instate tomorrow,' Lee thought as he ran off to the sixth training ground to get in some early training.
