a/n: This is an AU where everyone is still there but without the GTA/UC thing of OC cause that's too much for me. Let's say they're out there doing normal (racist) police work as usual.
This happens in the same universe as "Office Gossip" and "That One Time" also known as my bellson universe. In a nutshell, Bell and Benson have a history.
this is very silly. just something fun, something for the summertime, something for the girls to get ready and party to.
"Who else is coming again?"
Denise had planned to just sip wine and watch trash reality tv all night but Ayanna had some other plans that she conveniently forgot to mention until that afternoon.
It was Saturday evening now and they had finally put their baby down to sleep. Denise had put on a dress, something she hasn't done in awhile. A baby will do that to you. She guessed a night in with some other human adults wasn't such a bad idea. She was just wary of the people Ayanna might have invited.
Her wife liked to see the best in everyone. Everyone .
So far only Renee had shown up. The Captain of the Internal Affairs Bureau was a long time friend of theirs so that was alright.
"I invited my squad but most of them had things going on already," Ayanna said, busy setting the appetizers on the coffee table.
"That's because half of your squad is what, twenty three? You think they would want to come to your house on a Saturday night, honey?", she teased.
"Well, here's something you'll enjoy," Ayanna said, grinning, "I think the only one coming is your favorite."
"Ugh, Stabler is coming? Why do you hate me? You married me."
Ayanna ignored her and looked at Renee, "You know him?"
She was sitting next to Denise, a glass of wine in one hand, her phone in the other.
"Know of him," she offered not once taking her eyes of what seemed to be her instagram feed,"not impressed."
"He's one of the good guys," Ayanna assured. She could see Denise rolling her eyes next to her.
"Right," she answered, still distracted by her phone.
"And he's bringing a friend," Ayanna continued. She sat down next to Denise and put her hand on her tight.
Renee finally looked up from her phone to see Ayanna smirking at her wife.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Denise asked.
"Cause I'm going to ask you to be nice and patient and compassionate,"she started.
"Ayanna, who else is coming?" She threatened.
Ayanna took a deep breath before announcing, "It 's Olivia."
"Benson?" Renee gasped.
"You know her, right?" Ayanna asked. Denise was still too shocked to talk. How dare Ayanna do that to her?
"Oh, trust me. I know her," Renee said. taking a big gulp of her wine.
"You don't have a good relationship?" Denise asked. Unlike her wife, Renee seemed to see through people, much like her.
"Renee doesn't have a good relationship with anybody," Ayanna laughed, "she's the IAB Captain."
"How dare you? I didn't come here to be insulted," Renee responded, faking surprise.
"Do you have a good relationship with anyone?" Ayanna asked her seriously.
"Well, I tolerate you!" she taunted,"now, I'm curious about why Denise has it in for Captain Benson."
"It's a long story," Ayanna said dismissively. Denise on the other hand, seemed very kin to tell the story.
"It's not that long, " she started, "This one -" she said, pointing to Ayanna.
"Denise!"
She continued despite the interruption. "cheated -"
"I never!"
"With Benson!?" Ayanna almost choked on her drink. "Now, that's good gossip. Why didn't I know about this?"
"We were separated at the time!" Ayanna protested.
"In our own bed!" Denise continued as if she was never interrupted.
"You had moved out!" Ayanna squeaked.
"Ok, continue, I'm very interested," Renee commented.
"It was a one time thing that meant nothing and I did not cheat," Ayanna said, trying to put an end to the conversation.
"Debatable," her wife retorted
"And it was a long time ago," Ayanna continued trying to defend herself.
"Sounds like you guys have things figured out," Renee commented, smirking. She loved to see them fighting, it was always entertaining, "it feels very resolved."
"It is resolved because there's nothing to resolve. Olivia is a great friend of ours now -" Ayanna started
"Talk about yourself," Denise mumbled.
Trying again to dissolve the argument, Ayanna turned the conversation back to Renee, "Why don't you like her?"
"It's not that I don't like her," she said. Her wine glass was already empty and she felt like she would need more soon, very soon. " All I know from her is that she's been to a dozen IAB interviews with me claiming she's not racist ," she finished, making quotation marks with her hands.
"Oh my God," Denise laughed.
"I mean," Renee started. She didn't know Captain Benson like that. She knew a couple of things about her. She knew she had dated her previous Captain, for example. You had to be one tough woman to date Ed Tucker. She knew of her reputation as a victims' protector. She knew all that but that didn't mean she wasn't wary of Benson's latest actions.
"No, she 's nice," Ayanna intervened, "she has good intentions."
"Ayanna thinks everyone has good intentions," Denise explained, "her intentions were getting into your panties, honey."
"I don't want to talk about this anymore," Ayanna whined.
"Too bad you invited them over."
They were in their third wine glass and still no sign of Benson and Stabler. Not that Denise was anxious for their arrival. She was having fun with just the girls.
"I'm always telling her she should do something else, something less dangerous. She doesn't need to leave the force. IAB, for example," Denise said, pointing to Captain Curry.
"You know what's worse about Internal Affairs? Relationship disclosures," the IAB captain confessed.
Ayanna had to laugh out loud at that. "Girl, get off the cross, we need the wood."
"I'm serious," Renee started, "it's never the ones you care about that wanna talk. Those? They come in, disclose their business, sign the paper and are out of your hair in less than five minutes. Like it should be! But let me tell you about the straights."
Denise chuckled, "I don't want to talk about the straights, Renee."
"It's always the vanilla ice cream unflavored straight boring couples that think disclosing their relationships mean they get to tell their whole story like we care. Like I care, Denise!" She exclaimed, "look at me, do I ever look like I care?"
"You certainly don't," the other woman asserted.
"You're right, I don't! But they sit down and talk about their great love story like I haven't heard that a million times before," the captain whined.
Ayanna was looking at her with amazement, "I'm obsessed that you feel so strongly about this."
"Well, I'm the one who has to listen to Mary and Mark brag about their boring ass romantic tale like they are Romeo and Juliet. He left his family and doesn't speak to his children anymore because he loves me."
"They don't say that to you", Ayanna laughed. She knew Renee could be a little dramatic sometimes.
Renee ignored her and continued with her impressions , "He's got anger issues and almost lost his jacket twice but he is so lovely when he's with me."
"Renee, you're drunk."
Renee took another sip of her wine, "Yeah but I'm also tired," she consented.
"Do you want another drink?" Denise offered.
"I thought you'd never ask. Let me help you."
Denise and Renee moved to the kitchen to get more wine as they heard a knock on the door.
"I'm just glad I'm already drunk. Stabler and Benson, on the same night? Girl, we'll need more wine," Denise murmured to Renee as they heard Ayanna welcoming the Captain and the detective into the living room.
"Are they like⦠a thing?" Renee asked.
"A couple? I don't know. I guess? Ayanna might have mentioned something. I'm sorry, but I usually tune out and she starts on the Stabler gossip hour," Denise sighed, "but whatever they have though, I don't think they're out yet."
"Interesting."
"You know what's also interesting?" Denise began, "I don't think they know you're here."
"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Renee asked the other woman.
"That we could make this night way more fun?"
"Yep, and I'm just drunk enough."
Benson and Stabler are coming in the next chapter! Let me know what you think :)
