The One who Remembered

Being a Guardian has its perks: Immortality, Light powers, peak physicality, just to name a few. But there was a catch: in order to become a Guardian, you must die and forget your entire life up until that point. But what if there was a Guardian who remembered his past? This is a story about the most powerful Guardian who ever lived and how his past came knocking on his door

1. Every Ending is a Beginning

Prologue- "Every ending is a Beginning"

Long ago, we were in a time of strife and war with each other. No one saw an end to the war and was called, at the time, the Forever War. It was thought to be the 3rd "War to end all wars". Almost 2 billion people died in that conflict, and it showed no signs of stopping. Until a visitor appeared in our star system over Mars. We called it "The Traveler". And it changed everything.

It had the power to terraform planets and moons. Great cities were built on Mars and Venus, Titan was home to the Arcology, Europa was home to Clovis Brays Eventide Colony, Mercury became a Garden World. Human lifespan tripled as new technology became obsolete overnight. We entered a Golden Age that lasted centuries. But the Traveler had an enemy, one that we were not prepared to face.

Nearly 4 centuries after our Golden Age began, the Darkness and it's armies found us. Trillions of lives were lost in a matter of days. Settlements were destroyed, Colony Ships fled from Earth, but none escaped the Darkness' grasp. Our only salvation was the sacrifice the Traveler did to force the Darkness back. And that was the end of everything...

But it was also a beginning, as in its final breath the Traveler made the Ghosts. And with the Ghosts came the Guardians, beings that could use the Travelers Light and protect both it and the remnants of Humanity. There was one caveat to being a Guardian however, no Guardian could fully remember their past. But there is a legend of a Guardian who remembers his past, and he was the most powerful Guardian to ever live.

He was given many names over the centuries of his life, Warlord Reich, The Rose Wolf, Commander Unalok, The Guardian, The Hero, but his real name was Ryan Wilborn. He never cared for the titles he was given, he only cared about protecting the lightless people he found. He was the most powerful Guardian to ever exist, as he was able to use all of the abilities of the Light. From Dawnblades and Well of Radiances to Striker punches and Thundercrashes to the Nightstalker bow and Spectral Blades, he could use them all. He was also able to summon more than one ability at a time, a power no one had seen before or since.

He had done many things in his long life: He had fought against other Warlords to protect his home, fought alongside the Iron Lords in their battles for the City, fought together with Lord Shaxx to push back the Fallen, fought the Devil Kell Solkis with Saint-14, taught the Sunbreakers how to push their Light to be immune to the Sun's heat and radiation, battled Rasputin with the other Iron Lords until the 7 made it down into the Replication Chamber, played with the children of the City to give them hope, helped Osiris in his studies and in his escape, made the current Speaker his robes and fixed his mask, helped Saint-14 to the Infinite Forest to find his lost Phoenix, and in what many see as his final act, he led the charge into the Hellmouth on Luna and fought Crota head-on when the others were escaping. He watched as Crota killed Wei Ning in front of him. He then stood up and started firing at the Hive in front of him. Many Guardians begged him to retreat, to flee, to save his own life, but he refused to do so as there were still others trying to leave that cursed place. This is where our story begins:
