Premise: Glo. Logan had a brain tumor that affected his judgement. Georgie doesn't accept that excuse. That would be the end of it if not for an annoying little fact: they just happen to be soulmates.
Author's Note: The TMK storyline never happened.
One More Try
Chapter One
November 2008
"You've got some nerve to show your face here!" Georgie cried, moments after Logan Hayes sauntered into Kelly's Diner. "Turn around and walk out. You're not wanted here."
"Did you buy this diner while I was laid up in the hospital?"
She slammed her hands in the counter. "I have a right to refuse service and I refuse to serve you."
"If you don't own this joint, that ain't your call. I'm here for a cup of coffee without the attitude. Now pour."
"You really don't want that because if I pick up that pot, I'm pouring it over your head."
They stared each other down.
It was clear Logan was frustrated.
Georgie was beyond the point of caring about manners, good service or the scene they were making. She hated Logan Hayes and she was not going to pretend otherwise.
Mike Corbin, the manager, came out of the kitchen. "Hey now! What's the commotion?" He looked at Logan. "Oh."
Cooper and Maxie rushed down the stairs. The way they were pulling their clothes back on, it was clear they were in the middle of having sex when they heard the screaming.
Georgie said to Mike "Tell him that his business is not wanted here."
Cooper said "Come on, let's not go to extremes-."
Logan muttered "That's all I'm saying. A guy needs his daily cup of joe. Plus, how am I supposed to hang out with you if I'm barred from this property for something I couldn't even help?"
"You couldn't help!" Georgie cried. "The cops might have bought that story but I don't. You tried to hurt my sister and Lulu and even if they forgive you and Cooper believes it was your brain tumor, I don't!"
Mike said "Georgie, you should take a break. Go walk it off. Even go home for the day, if that's what you need to do."
"Are you going to serve this guy again?" Georgie asked
Mike said "If the doctors say he was violent because of a medical condition then who am I to argue with them? I've needed forgiveness and a second chance before myself. I'm not gonna hold someone's past against them."
Georgie took off her apron and flung it on the counter. "Fine! Then I quit!"
Maxie cried "Georgie, don't do that! You need this job."
Georgie grabbed her purse from under the counter. "No job is worth compromising my morals. Everyone else thinks that Logan can be trusted but I don't. I know a danger to society when I see one."
She stormed out.
Logan said "Just great. Now I got something else to feel guilty about."
XXXXXXXXX
Not even an hour later, Logan was knocking on the door of Mac Scorpio's house. Georgie opened the door, expecting it to be her best friend Brook Lynn who she had asked to come over, but the moment she saw Logan she went to slam the door shut.
Her mouth dropped in outrage when he stopped the door from closing. "Georgie, please, I just wanna talk to you, girl!"
"Well, I don't want to talk to you! Let me close the door or I will use lethal force to finally teach you a lesson about coming after people, especially women!"
Logan threw up his hands. Georgie slammed the door closed.
"Please, I want to apologize!"
"Go away! No means no, you big brute!"
"Georgie, I am so sorry you quit your job over me. If you want, I'll stay out of the diner so you can still work there."
"You can't trick me into thinking you are a good person just because you've tricked everyone else."
"It was a brain tumor! Do you really think I would act like that if I wasn't sick?"
"YOU ARE SICK, ALL RIGHT! STAY AWAY FROM ME!"
"FINE! HAVE IT YOUR WAY, YOU STUBBORN WOMAN! I tried!" Logan stomped away.
Brook Lynn pulled up in a sports car and got out. "Hey, hey, hey! You okay? What's going on? Georgie called me crying. Is she all right?"
"I didn't attack her, if that is what you're asking."
"I wasn't saying you did. I heard about your brain tumor. Tough break. You feeling okay now?"
"After months of recovering, yeah," he looked back toward the house in frustration "I'm starting to feel better but all the mess I caused last year ain't gonna be so easy to fix."
"You and Georgie got into it, huh?"
"Pretty much. That girl hates my guts. I guess I just got to live with it but I wish I could make every last person in the town see that I'm not a violent sociopath like I was acting before...the bigger the tumor got...the docs say the less control I had over my temper. And I've always had a bad temper anyway but I learned to cool the fussing and fighting in the army. I thought I had just gone back to my old ways last year. You know, getting out of the military, moving here, trying to get to know my father's family and start over...I figured I was just stressed out."
"Not everyone is gonna believe it was the brain tumor that caused you to be violent but I do because my great aunt Monica is a doctor and she told me all about what could happen to a person with a brain tumor pressing on the part of your brain where it was. Don't be mad. She was real careful to not name names but we were all kinda freaking out after we heard what went down so she wanted to explain it to me. She says you won't be dangerous like that now that you got the tumor out."
"Yeah, well, maybe you can convince Georgie of that?"
"I'll talk to her but no promises. She can be pretty stubborn. Got to go. She's waiting on me."
"Thanks, Brook Lynn. I appreciate you trying."
"No problem. Just steer clear of Georgie for a while cause she gets pretty protective of Maxie. She's not gonna forgive you easily but she's a fair person, probably the most fair person I ever met, so you still got a chance of her coming around."
Logan glanced at the house again. "I know it's selfish to want everyone to forgive me and give me a second chance. People get to feel how they want to feel about me. They don't owe me nothing, not even consideration."
"It's not selfish to want a second chance to make a first impression, especially in your case. Maybe you won't get it with everyone but you got that chance with me, okay?"
"Okay. Thanks again. I better take off before Georgie turns the hose on me or starts shooting. She said she would use lethal force if I don't skedaddle. I sure hope she don't got a gun in there."
"She's a great shot. I'd jump in that truck of yours, if I was you, and not show your face back around here for a good long while." Brook headed toward the house.
Logan followed her advice, got in his truck and quickly drove away. He couldn't help remembering the outraged looked on Georgie's face when she saw him at Kelly's diner and then on her doorstep.
She looked at him like he was a monster. He wanted to think To hell with what she thinks about me but he just didn't feel that way.
Maybe he wanted everyone in town to give him a second chance or maybe there was some reason he really wanted Georgie Jones, in particular, to give him a second chance. Whichever one it was, the way things went down today just did not sit right with Logan Hayes.
Maybe Brooke could talk some sense into her.
