AN: Hi everyone, me again. Hope everyone enjoys this one shot inspired by every time I rewatch 5x06 it always bothered me how big Hailey's shirt seems on her at the community play fundraiser scenes.
The first time Hailey wore his shirt Jay called her a snob. The unit had been getting ready for the community play fundraiser they were being forced to attend and Hailey noticed the long sleeved uniform shirt she had in her locker was stained.
"Shit."
"What's wrong?"
"The only shirt I have in my locker has what looks like pasta sauce on it."
"Here I think I have a spare one in here." Jay then proceeds to hand her a shirt. "It's going to be big but it's better than nothing."
"You sure?"
"I mean everyone besides me and Kevin already left. If he has a spare shirt it's going to be a circus tent on you.
"True that." Kevin said while walking out.
After promising to clean it before giving it back to him the detectives were on their way. It wound up not being as much of a snooze fest as Hailey thought mainly helped by the fact there was an open bar
"You wanna roll? We're off the clock in ten minutes." Jay asked as the night was winding down
"Unless you know another place serving free Chantal de Laroque?"
"Wow. You're really um Oh what's the word? Le snob."
The second time she borrows his shirt is the first time she sleeps over at his apartment. Mandatory annual training got out at midnight and they got stuck in traffic caused by a bad accident. Since they had to be back in six hours and Jay lived closer to the academy Hailey decided to crash there. The flannel and jeans she had on would not have been comfortable to sleep in so Jay loaned her a t-shirt and pair of pajama pants to sleep in.
"Jay when did you go to the Jersey Shore?" Hailey asked pointing at the t-shirt she had on. The navy blue shirt had a yellow license plate on with Seaside Heights written on it.
"One furlough when I was a rookie. One of my friends from the army invited me to stay with his family at a house they were renting."
Hailey smirked at him. "So did you GTL before going to pick up girls?"
"Haha first I've never watched the show, second yeah it's the same town but like I said with his family so his small kids and wife were with us. I was their favorite 'uncle' by the end of the trip."
"Ahh that's kind of nice."
Jay opened the door to the linen closet and pulled out some blankets and a spare pillow. "Yeah I'll show you the pictures sometime."
Hailey took everything from him and set them up on the couch while Jay was wishing he had the courage to invite her to sleep in the bed with him.
"I'm going to hold you to that, Night Jay."
"Night Hails."
The first time she borrows a sweatshirt was on a cold night right after they started dating. Hailey was curled up on Jay's couch waiting for him to sit down with the popcorn. "You know I like this sweatshirt."
"You do look very cute in it." Jay said as he sat down next to her on his couch.
"It's so comfy. This should definitely make its way over to my place."
"Well then once I can wrangle it away from you I will make sure to pack it."
Hailey thought for a second. "You know if you want we can spend more time here. I kind of feel bad you're always the one packing a bag when we spend the night together."
"No I love your place and at this point I have so much stuff there it's not really packing a bag anymore. Also you're going to hate me for this.."
"What?"
"I know you are a bad ass detective and you've been on the job for twelve years and you carry a gun but I'd rather be at your place in case we have a argument. I'd rather you throw me out in the middle of the night than you leaving and me being worried about you getting home."
"That is actually kind of sweet. But I promise not to kick you out maybe just to the couch."
"Well if you like that you are going to love this. You know that comforter you were debating getting?" Jay said referencing the comforter he had seen her looking at on her phone a week before.
"The pretty fluffy white one?"
"Yeah. I got it for you, early birthday present."
"Oh my God Jay you are amazing."
"Want me to grab it?" He asked almost laughing at the way her eyes lit up and she nodded her head.
By now she has borrowed his shirt more times than she can count and he usually stops commenting on it. Tonight is a different story "I believe that is my shirt." Jay said looking at the red Henley as he walked into their apartment.
Hailey looked up from her tablet she was reading a book on. "Yeah it is. How was the overtime?"
"It was fine, I mean the parade ran long and would have been better if you had been there too. But don't change the subject you have all your clothes and you constantly steal mine."
"Maybe."
"Hailey."
"I'm injured." Hailey said holding up her arm in the sling while making a sad pout face. Hailey had landed hard on her arm trying to handcuff a subject in a bar and as a result had hurt her elbow.
"You know when we first started dating I did wonder where they were disappearing too."
"It was a mystery." Hailey said while puckering her lips for a kiss. "Now how about we go to bed and you snuggle me on my uninjured side."
"I like the way you think."
AN: This is the part where I shamelessly ask for reviews. Good or bad.
