Chapter I: A Pleasant Day to You
"You…"
"Are you surprised?"
"I should've known…"
...
"Don't give me that look."
It's been peaceful lately. After the whole fiasco with Mukuro, everything seems to have calmed down and Tsuna prefers it that way. Reborn is still brutal when it comes to his "tutoring methods" and school life is less awful than before. He thanks Yamamoto and Gokudera for sticking around and thus forming a deeper bond with one another. The three of them are now walking to school with the usual bickering between his two friends.
"You're not needed here, baseball freak!"
"Haha! You need to relax, Gokudera."
Tsuna internally sighs and smiles at their playful banter. Personally, this is the scene he wants to witness daily. It cheers him up and simply makes his day. The trio continued their path down to Namimori Middle School and Tsuna yelps in surprise as his body collides with someone.
"Ow-!"
"Juudaime! Are you okay?!" Gokudera immediately checks him all over to search for injuries while Tsuna reassures him that he's fine. He just bumped into someone else, that's all.
"You-! Apologize to Juudaime!" The bomber glared at the "perpetrator". Tsuna takes a good look at the person he collided with. It was the new student in their class from a week ago. The slightly smaller guy fixed his crooked glasses and simply smiled at the trio.
"Sorry, Sawada-san."
"A-Ah no, it's fine!"
It's weird though, Tsuna thought. Before he bumped into him, he was sure that there was no one in front of them. He didn't realize he said it out loud and the new student looked at them with a confused face.
"I was here all this time though?"
Yamamoto laughs. He places an arm around the new student and grins.
"That's such a cool trick! You should teach me uhh… What's your name again?" The baseball lover asked. Gokudera scolds him for acting so buddy-buddy with someone whose name he doesn't even know. The new student just smiles and answers Yamamoto.
"Yukihiro Sora. Yuki is fine."
They made their way to school and settled down as classes started. Nothing special happened and it wasn't long until break time. Tsuna, Gokudera and Yamamoto usually spend this time talking to one another. During the usual bickering, his attention shifted to Yuki who was silently reading something on a red notebook he's been carrying around. He can't help but wonder if having a low presence is something that some people are born with. Other than the incident this morning, even though Yuki had only transferred a week ago, he blended in too well with the rest of the class. It was as if he's been with them for a year.
"Sawada-san."
"Ah-!" If it wasn't for Yamamoto's fast reflexes, Tsuna would've fallen backwards. Yuki, who suddenly appeared in front of him, gave him an apologetic look. Gokudera scolds him for surprising Juudaime and glares.
"Ahaha! You're amazing, Yuki!" Yamamoto grins.
"I don't think I understand but thank you?" He answered, obviously confused. Tsuna doesn't know how he does it but he lowkey wants to learn for the sake of escaping Reborn's torture and the mafia as a whole.
"A-Anyways, do you need something Yuki-san?"
"I was wondering if you can show me around the shopping district. I'm in need of groceries and other stuff."
"Ah sure!"
"Go there yourself." Gokudera cuts in, still bothered by his presence. Yamamoto suggests coming along to which the bomber rejects the idea. In the end, they agreed to meet up by the weekend after review day along with Kyoko and the others.
Classes ended and Tsuna offered Yuki to walk home with them. He rejected and explained that he has things to take care of elsewhere. They parted ways by the school gate and Yuki stayed at a coffee shop until dawn before continuing his journey. He stopped in front of Namimori Shrine and looked around for possible witnesses. After confirming that no one was around, he walked until he reached the trees behind the shrine. He leaned against the trunk of the tree and waited.
A familiar presence appeared beside him and Yuki simply said.
"Nessuna." (None.)
"I see. As expected. Stay alert and continue your duties."
Yuki waits until the presence disappears before leaving Namimori Shrine. He didn't miss the way two beady eyes are staring right at the back of his head. Hours have passed and midnight has arrived. Yuki stands on one of the buildings in the shopping district and he stares in a certain direction. A frown crept up to his face and whispers to himself.
"The time has come."
Weekend came by in a flash. Tsuna and the gang met up by the entrance of the shopping district. They separated into different groups. Tsuna, Gokudera, and Yamamoto accompany Yuki to the department store, Futa, I-pin and Lambo are somewhere, while Kyoko and Haru walk to the usual dessert cafe.
Tsuna's group spent some time looking around for furniture. Yuki's apartment barely has proper necessities so they're helping him. They didn't buy anything since Yuki said something about his "relative" doing all the buying for him. They listed out the things needed and met up with the rest to take a break and eat.
"I'm craving for some sweets." Yuki mumbled.
That was enough for Kyoko and Haru to drag Yuki to the dessert cafe and recommend a ton of pastries. They immediately had this conversation about the different kinds of sweets that can be found in Japan and Italy.
"Ah. That's right. Yuki-san is from Italy." Tsuna said as he listened to the trio's conversation.
"Really? I didn't know." Yamamoto said with a surprised look.
"That's because you don't listen to anything in class, baseball freak!"
"Hm? But Tsuna didn't know either." Yamamoto pointed out. Gokudera panicked at that and made multiple excuses on how Juudaime is probably thinking of a lot of things compared to Yamamoto who has his head up in the clouds most of the time. Thankfully, Yuki and the girls were done and they left, which halted the one sided argument. They bought some refreshments and found unoccupied tables to rest on. Yuki leaned in and whispered to Tsuna's ear.
"Sawada-san, you want to be alone with Sasagawa-san right?" Tsuna's face turned red.
"Hiee..! Y-Yuki-san how did you-"
"You're easy to read." Yuki simply answered. He gave Tsuna a small pat at the shoulder and gently pushed him towards Kyoko.
"I still have things to look for. See you in a bit." Tsuna watches Yuki leave. He's embarrassed that someone he just met immediately noticed his feelings for the school idol. Was he that easy to read? Maybe. But it was scary that Yuki read him like Reborn does. Tsuna wonders if he can also read minds like his tutor.
"Tsuna-kun, Are you okay?" Kyoko asked the boy who was having an internal monologue. Knowing she got his attention, she proceeds to tell him how glad she was that Tsuna returned from Kokuyo as his usual self. Not expecting the compliment, he was silent for a bit until Kyoko called his name again. Their moment was interrupted when an explosion erupted from the building behind them. The explosions didn't stop until a boy with a blue dying will flame crashed onto Tsuna. Reborn, who just arrived, questions the strange boy's presence in Japan.
"VROOOII-!"
A man in a black uniform with long silver hair appeared at the roof of the building. The stranger has two separate sword blades attached to his gloves. He looked down and smirked.
"What's this? A bunch of outsiders are starting to make a crowd."
Reborn frowned. Not liking the way things are happening at the moment. The long haired stranger uses his sword in a slashing movement to send harsh winds towards Tsuna and the others. Kyoko, Haru and the kids were immediately told to leave the place while the boy with the dying will flame grabbed Tsuna by the arm and dragged him away to say something.
Unfortunately, they were immediately stopped by the long haired man. He questions Tsuna's connection with the boy. He was about to attack him until the boy with the dying will flame blocked the incoming blade that sent him flying and crashed in the building's windows. Tsuna panicked as the swordsman continued threatening him. Suddenly, multiple dynamite sticks were sent towards the long haired man to which he easily dodged. Gokudera and Yamamoto stood there ready to protect Tsuna.
"Are you guys involved with him?! I don't really understand but I'll tell you one thing. Defy me and you'll die!" The swordsman declared.
Gokudera returns the same sentiments. Yamamoto stepped in to fight the man until the strange boy warned them that the swordsman was dangerous. Yamamoto didn't heed his warnings and still fought the long haired stranger. He was immediately defeated along with Gokudera who also didn't stand a chance. The swordsman once again attempted to kill Tsuna until the injured boy managed to get up and swooped in to block his blades. Tsuna looks at fighting in horror not knowing what to do. Reborn (who is wearing a potted plant costume) throws the gloves at his student's face.
"T-These are… these gloves!" Tsuna said.
"Even when you get your palms read!" He immediately shifted his attention to his tutor standing on top of the vending machine,
"Even on a hot summer day! Leave those gloves on!" Reborn instructed.
"You're..!"
"Just a plant-man who was passing by."
Tsuna calls bullshit on that. At the same time, the boy from earlier reaches his limit and collapses on the ground. The long haired man attempts to swing his sword at Tsuna once again but is stopped by Tsuna himself who has entered Dying Will Mode thanks to Reborn.
"I will defeat long hair with my dying will!"
The swordsman immediately took note of the dying will flame on his opponent;s forehead and the emblem on his gloves. There's no mistaking it, he thought. It's the rumored Japanese heir to the Vongola family. Unfortunately, it was no use. The Dying Will Mode wasn't enough to even land a scratch on the long haired man. Tsuna runs away and the boy manages to buy some time to hide by hitting the swordsman's incoming explosives with his boomerang-like blade.
"Thank you. Are you alright?" Tsuna asked.
"Basil is my name." The boy said.
"I have been tasked by my master to deliver you a certain thing." Basil continued.
"To me? Who's your master?"
Basil revealed an elegant looking box and opened it. Inside it were half rings. Tsuna asked what it is and the other boy said that Reborn knows something about it. Shocked that his tutor knows what's up, Basil further explained that Reborn has reasons as to why he cannot interfere.
"Please, take this and run!"
"That's a little sudden!"
Another explosion hits just behind them and the long haired man finally realizes what's going on. He further threatens them and talks about how he should finish them off before taking the box with the half rings. At that moment, Tsuna can't help but feel helpless after witnessing what happened to Gokudera and Yamamoto. He also can't do anything even with the help of the dying will bullet.
Before things escalate any further, a familiar voice cuts through their conversation.
"You haven't changed. Superbi Squalo."
Dino Cavallone steps in with his whip out.
"Getting so serious with children… Aren't you embarrassed?"
"Dino-san!"
Squalo is displeased with his sudden appearance. He thought about it for a moment. Obviously hesitating even if the Cavallone boss threatens to take him on.
"VROOOII-! It'd be fun to take you on here and now, Bucking Bronco! But, they won't like it if I take on someone from the Family Alliance."
Dino frowns and doesn't lower his whip.
"I'll go home quietly… There's no way I'd do that!"
Squalo grabs Tsuna by the head and laughs. Dino steps in but is stopped by the swordsman's explosions. After the smoke cleared up, the Cavallone boss immediately checked on Tsuna and Basil.
"Soft as always, Bucking Bronco!" Squalo grins victoriously as he manages to snatch the half rings during the explosion. Basil's eyes widened in horror.
"The Vongola Rings!"
Vongola Rings? Tsuna thought. Squalo laughs.
"See ya!"
Amidst all that chaos, a boy stands on one of the buildings. Shoulder length brown hair flowing along with the wind, sapphire eyes watching every move during the whole exchange between the Vongola heir and Superbi Squalo. He closes the red notebook in his hands and a voice rings inside his head.
"Oh? You're not going to do anything?"
"I have no role to play in this scene." Yuki answers.
He watches them evacuate and help the injured to the hospital. He opens his red notebook once again and smiles. Satisfied with the information gathered from the battle and leaves the scene. Reborn looks at the spot where Yuki was standing with an unreadable expression on his face.
